[POLL] Which of the four holy grails are you most excited about?

Dave Georgeson said during the keynote that the holy grails are what makes EQN different from anything else out there. So which grail are you most excited about? Even if you're not of fan of a particular grail, there's bound to be one you like enough to pick.

Would be nice to see to see the response here.

    I am really interested in seeing the integration of Storybricks in the world.  I think this is going to have a really fundamental impact that not many people have really thought about yet.  Your actions have consequences now.  NPC's will act differently towards you depending on what you've done.  So, as you go through the world it will force a heightened layer of consciousness of what you are doing, what choices you make, and how that could potentially affect your goals.

     

    So, Emergent AI for me.

    It was close for me, but I went with 'Emergent AI' as the one I'm most excited about. That said, 'Permanent Change' is a close, close second.

    Multi-Classing (changing the core game)
    *Rift, GW2, TSW...
     
    Destructibility (voxel-based world)
    *Minecraft, Vindictus, probably others I never played...
     
    Emergent AI (a life of consequence)
    *A bunch of scripts, scripted to work at random or to activate on some certain trigger, are still scripts, not AI
     
    Permanent Change (rallying calls)
    *Been done in some way shape or form, in devel with games that'll be out before EQN, etc. Another dead horse that isn't 'innovative'

    The only thing that stands out to me is the destructibility, which is pretty awesome. Everything else may or may not be exciting or interesting. I doubt very much the AI is going to be game changing, simply because no AI ever is.

     

    Also, I'm not even particularly excited about the destructibility because there probably won't be OW pvp.

    The AI is what interests me, especially with how they describe this effects combat situations. Hopefully what they promise is actually delivered in the game and not just hyped up fluff.

    Multi-Classing sounds great, but I really hope they consider adding more slots/abilities. I want skill to actually mean something rather than it to be an 8 button mash.

    Permanent  Change sounds terrific, this will definitely make the game more fun to play!

    Destruction I could care less about.

    i don't understand why ppl think choosing ur skills before you go into battle isn't strategic/tactical.. I also don't understand why ppl think that just because there are few skills you can't have to understand how they work together and all there affects in order to be effective... its rarely ever just button mashing for skilled gamers.

    Emergent AI, definitely. I've had the chance on some UO freeshards (keyword based interaction) to "chat" and otherwise interact with some unbelievable well done AI scripts. Amazing what you can do with that, adds a whole new layer to a game, the settings becomes so much more of a "world" instead of a stage you just move in, very much hoping the storybricks thing does not get stuck in its infancy somewhere.

    Played: Pretty much any fantasy MMO, some did not even make it to release ...
    Favorites: UO, EQ2, Vanguard, Wurm Online, Salem, ESO, Creativerse
    Playing: ESO, Creativerse, Guild Wars 2
    Anticipating: (sigh) ... maybe Ashes of Creation

    I'm on the edge on this one.  Part of the work I do is with voxels - I love the tech, and really want to see how they incorporate destructibility into an mmo world while keeping resource usage down.  I am excited for the AI, but i've gotta vote for destructibility.  AI is definitely a close number two.

    Consequences for actions has been absent in MMOs for far too long... ever since EQ1 and DAOC.

    Glad to see it potentially making a return in EQN.  Still skeptical given that even character decisions have no consequences since the game is all about horizontal progression.

    Permanent change.  As an MMO fan, i've always had ideas for my "perfect MMO" in mind and those ideas always involved a world that continuously changes, where "the story" evolves and where a city stands one day and lies in ruins for years later.  Where you don't go back to same city for 8 years and find the same NPC offering the same quest even though the world has "supposedly" changed.

     

    EQN truly has the potential to make this happen.  The world we start with will not be the world that a player that starts a year later will find.  That is totally awesome.   This solves the "how do you tell a story in an MMO" problem that so many games (TOR, etc.) have tried to solve by turning MMOs into a single-player perspective.  

     

    Super-excited about this.    Actually excited about all 4 of the grails.   I've said elsewhere, i'm very happy with the innovative things SOE is doing.  I just dislike the graphics and the combat things (that they're basing on existing games that i dislike).

    Being able to play what ever my team needs. Why I loved my pally in WoW so much. I could heal, tank, dps on one char. 40+ classes on one char speaks to me.

    This is a big one for me.

     

    When I play an MMO, I play it alot.  I'm definitely one of the 40+ hour a week gamers when I really get into a game. 

    I usually get turned off from playing alts though, because on my main character I end up acquiring valuable titles, mounts, cosmetic toys and other such "soulbound" trinkets.   Usually it isn't stuff I want to get again on another character because it would be too much hassle/work etc.  

    As such, I don't have as much fun on an alt or I'm unable to take it as seriously.    So whatever my main character can do, for the most part I'm stuck with that.

    Having this kind of multiclassing setup really appeals to me, because if I Play long term I won't feel like I need to miss out on anything in particular.  I can try it out on my main.

    The adaptive AI and "A Life of Consequence" without any doubt.

     

    This will make or break EQNext. The core of the game design rests on this mechanism working awesomely well. The functionality provided by StoryBricks will underpin combat, NPC actions, movement and location in the world. It's absolutely vital to the success of the game, because without it EQNext will just be another static and scripted themepark.

     

    Destructability is a bit of a gimmick in a PVE world, and will most likely be fairly restricted and situational.

    Rallying Cries sound interesting and fun, but they're really just elaborate public quests.

    Multi-classing is neat, and it's great to have it, but it's not new and exciting.

    For me this is a negative grail. Multi-classing itself sounds interesting but i prefere classes with a true identity and depth instead of just 40 shallow options. At the same time i don't like the system of changing your role/class on the fly for everything(and its never a system of freedom if you want to be competitive). 


    Destructibility (voxel-based world)

    Interesting grail. The first impression was "epic" but for me its more a nice to have feature. It will get boring after a while(blowing up your first bridge is cool, the 10th not so much, same for cave exploration it gets just as boring as running dungeons again and again) and sometimes get more frustrating than fun. It might become more exciting if its combined with a great housing system(inside eqn not landmark) not for the destructability but for the awesome construction that would be possible.


    Emergent AI (a life of consequence)

    Most exciting grail if its done right and ends up being more than just a couple scripts.


    Permanent Change (rallying calls)

    Good one but not realy exciting. Quite a lot game had such events(not all the time and simpler). The events themself are something i consider a must have feature of a good  mmorpg theese days but i don't realy care about how permanent the changes are. The real advantage is that you can reuse your land and eliminate the need for new planes or continents for expansions.

    i actually don't find any of the so called holy grails appealing what i do like is the 3 tier world and the fact it is in the world of EQ the rest is just a gimmick that will probably ruin the EQ name.

    Of the four options Emergent AI seems to be the best one.  And unless you want Skynet we better hope that Emergent AI is just "a bunch of scripts."  It is all in how they use the storybrick tech to write the story.  I like playing my Ranger and knowing EQ there will be times when every NPC and MOB out there just absolutely hates me in some twisted way to get me killed an untimely death.

    I voted Destructability(Voxel Engine). Because it will influence the entire genre extremely, and we actually get something to see and can very well imagine what is possible with it.

    But Emergent AI is more or less as much as a game and genre changer.. at least if it is anything like i imagine. But we didn't see anything nor do we know how clever it really will be.

    But those two will change the genre.

    That tells me right there that everything else in the game is really going to be static - except for whatever rallying call SOE decides is currently happening.

    So they'll be like Dynamic Events in GW2 - just spread out over weeks/months and once they reach their "finished" state they don't revert back to the beginning state - the change is permanent (or at least until the next RC).

    An improvement over GW2 DE? Yes.

    Revolutionary? I don't think so, more evolutionary.

    Grown up PvP wasn't in the options :(  but I picked the voxel world because at least that is a very small start.

    About Voxel-based world. Vindictus is not voxel-based. Hell.. even Minecraft is not a true voxel engine.

    But yeap.. voxel technolgie is rather old.. the first game using Voxel, as much as i remember was Comanche (1992), but used it for a complete different reason.

    And it really is not just about Destruction.. you can do a lot of things a lot easier as with other technics.

    im on the emergent AI too.

    Having the idea that my actions actually have an impact on my charcter and the way other NPCs judge me means more than anything in defining my character.

    I also play a Ranger. the fact that every orc in the game will hate me, while travellers will see me as a protective arm is the sole aim of my character, or rather main aim.

    Scripted? of course it will be, this is a game after all. To think that in this day and age we can actually prgram games characters to think for themselves in not only naive but frankly ridiculous! you need to realise that Terminator is a movie not a documentory.

    Wow, I'm impressed the AI is winning. Goes to show that people will always love what they cant see. Multiclassing is self explanatory and we know what it will be. We saw at least a tech demo of destruction. Permanent changes are pretty underwhelming(seen it before). But the AI, that is purely word of mouth. What everyone wants, dreams until reality sets in.

    Yeap.. the rallying call by itself is just a evolution of public quests, rifts, and dynamic events. And something everyone could expect that those mechanism will be improved over time.

    But in combination with the Emergent AI rallying calls can be something special.. but it remains to be seen.
