Unable to join server?

in Final Fantasy XIV

I'm playing on Gilgamesh, and my friend is unable to join me on it because its full. Wont even let him enter a queu. Is this temporary, and if so any idea on how long it will be before he's able to join me?

He's pissed at me that I don't want to change servers after spending an all nighter leveling...

    Nothing currently on the twitter feed. They posted an hour ago that all character creation restrictions were lifted, but that they might be imposed again based on "ongoing conditions". I'd tell him to keep trying.

    Yeah, your friend only needs to wait a bit and keep refreshing the server list. It happened to me earlier and I eventually got on.

    The choices are mess about on another server for now and wait for the early hours for your timezone and the server you wanted should be open to enable your friend to create a character or keep hitting the refresh button until the server opens up.  It was the same for the Japanese servers earlier in the day but now they are all open due to it being the less active part of the day.

    Ended up on Goblin myself. Oh well wasn't my first or second choice, but at this point I'm the only one I know playing so f it :P
