12.95!?!?

So apparently Final Fantasy XI will cost 12.95 per month...why!? It's only 10 bucks a month for the Japanese version. Argh, I'd rather just stick with that then!

I believe it's only $10 in Japan because it's coming from there.  Also $12.95 is the normal price for MMORPGs.

The price for the Japanese version is about $10 a month and an extra $.75 per character.  If you have one character then it's $10.75 a month.

Not sure why they increased it.

The US version is:

PC owners will get a month of free online play, after which they will be required to pay a $12.95 per month subscription fee. Additional characters can be created for the charge of $1.00 per character per month.

Which probably means that when the European version when it comes out will be $15 and $2 per character.

It's not as if they need the extra cash.  250K in Japan paying a minimum of $10 each a month.

What with the SWG character mess up and now this! I'm begining to think that the Sony bosses aren't getting enough money!! hehe...

It's a shame the game was looking good but i'm not going to pay $12.95 + $3-4 extra for my normal quota of characters... Anything over $13 is too much, simple as that.

I'd pay 12 a month for a game, but I will not pay money for multiple characters.  Part of the fun of MOG's is having multiple characters, trying new things out, etc.

Ah well, Horizons is so...close....

the only thing that I have heard is that it's 10 a month and .75 for each extra chacters (jees im never going on vac) when did all this info come out?

I forget where, but I somehow already knew this. The only reason I'd have multiple characters would be to be a different race, but I don't want to be any of the other races, so no problem for me.

I guess the extra cost for characters would put a minor stomp on "twinking" characters.

All though for those who don't worry about small price increase for a few extra characters <technically it's near the cost of getting your fast food "super sized"> it is an annoyance. Soon prices will increase to 13.95.. to 15.00 ect. <shrugs>

As the future advances.. so does cost of everything. Personally I don't like it, but I accept it. Kinda have to, lol. There is always... if you don't want to pay that much... then don't get it. =

You also must take into consideration that the Japanese economy is different than the US economy. To try out new things you won't have to make a new character - you can just switch jobs. Admittedly, you will have to make a couple new characters eventually. I don't think I'm all for the extra character fee, but I'm fine with the 12.95. It's not as if they tricked us. They never gave out an official price. People just assumed the price would be the same. It's not the same here as it is in Japan. It's also not as if the monthly fee for the game is much greater than average.

Imo....if the first month is good and i'm hooked...i'm gonna be playin FFXI almost all the time in the winter(almost winter)....the only thing that gets me is the creation of character cost....why? lol...do they want to save server space? And if they want money why dont they just increase the monthly pay like 10c? I dun get it personally...but if the free month is really good then I guess i'll just have to save up lol...I only can afford 10 bucks a month atm with my job =/

The world knows you best as a 0 or a 1, combinations of the 2 are possible, are you a 1 or a 0? Or are you a combination of the 2? The world might not know you after all...but keep trying, there are many 1's and 0's out there, find yours.

Sorry to give you a bit of bad new, but the extra $1 isn't for the creation of the character. It's an extra $1 per month. At least, that's the way I and everybody else I've talked to understands it.
