Class Specialization

So how exactly does class specialization work? I love the idea that I can I can level any class on the same character and use skills from those other classes when I play. But I am curious about class specialization. If I choose White Mage for example does that mean I will always be a white mage? I can't switch to other classes any more?

You can switch at any time. One character can eventually be every class and every job, just not all at once.
