Next time, don't go buying an MMo for early access if you expect it to be perfect and wait for a few weeks if you don't understand launches will never be flawless.

people who dont have the time to find out how mmos work shouldnt bother with launch day at all.
@OP, if this is your first time buying an mmo for early / launch day access then please make it the last one too. Otherwise you will be backcharging every new mmo and end up banned from every game made by those companies.
In this thread the clearly articulate players are in support of the OP and the one's who drag the English language through mud are the one's bashing the OP.
And here I thought WoW trade chat was bad.
I will try to balance things a little then:
I cannot recall a major mmo launch that has not suffered from server congestion in one way or another. Resultant actions to try and deal with the often mad rush have been overflow servers, blocking new characters, and limiting entry numbers. Traditionally a huge number of players flood the mmo. Some decide to continue with a sub, others don't.
If this is the OP's first experience of a high profile mmo launch, then it probably came as a bit of a shock and their reaction may be to a degree understandable.
But if this not their first, then they must be aware of the usual pattern at launch. Consequently they are either just trolling, or choosing to selectively ignore their past experiences.
Notwithstanding either of the above two scenarios, I would suggest that of all the mmo's out there, this one is not for the impatient or instant gratification mindset.
Bearing in mind the nature of the game, if the OP desires to obtain a refund after only the first couple of days, when the rush is at the highest, then I'd suggest it would be the correct path for them.
I do however, think SE have been caught out a little by the interest in the game. Especially considering the reaction of the original launch. One factor when you think about it may be the timing of the ARR release - currently there is very little that is new out there.
Sure we have had free to play conversions, but these by their nature are just re-coatings of existing games. This is the first major new launch in a while. Ok it's dressed as a revision of the original launch, but the degree of change is significant.
The coming days will see how SE react to this high level of interest, I'm prepared to have patience while they do, and will also watch how the playerbase stands up over the next few months. If others aren't, well I hope they do eventually find whatever it is they are looking for. But if they are looking for a major mmo launch without crammed servers in days 1 and 2, then it will be a long search.
Don't get me wrong, it frusterated me to no end when I couldn't get on. (I'm that no lifer who loves shooting for first Max level, Heck on Rift I got it in SL for my server by nearly 12 hours on a warrior (weakest solo class at time) thats how sad I am) but over-all....
ITS AN MMO LAUNCH! A BIG MMO LAUNCH. Do we need to emphasize the fact problems on big titles launch happen very frequently. Even the most flawless launches have issues. If what I heard is correct they are actually extending 'early access', mostly providing extra free game time to players due to the issues which should be PLENTY to make up for the issues they have now. If you are expecting perfection on a MMO LAUNCH, I'm sorry, but you really are in some strange world.
Next time, don't go buying an MMo for early access if you expect it to be perfect and wait for a few weeks if you don't understand launches will never be flawless.
I did not want the game anymore after 4 days of not getting to play, and I did buy ARR just for the purpose of getting the CE items and Pre order items, I wanted them and I did not know that SE would be so massively unprepared for this.
I got a headache from trying to play this game, so I want my money back and if you chose to believe it or not there are people like me... Who just don't want to deal with it anymore I would rather have the 60 dollars in pocket so I can buy something that I might actually get to play the day it launches, but excuse me for having a opinion on what warrants to be worth MY <------ (This word means ME the person typing this not you) money and I did not believe this was worth MY money.
Easy: have a legit reason for one... Server hiccups in an online game with massive traffic (launch) isn't really one of those legit reasons. The game itself is fine, in less than a week the servers most likely will be as well. It's an MMO, it's not a short term investment three-four days is nothing.

I'm not forcing people to get charge backs and if a bank is unwilling to do a charge back they will tell you.
I only put the information that my bank was okay with it.
Calm down.
"DON'T LIKE MY GAME I WISH BAD THING A ON YOU AND SAY AWFUL THING B AND TAKE THIS SHIT C."
Its quite amusing.
I'm not mad at all. In fact, I'm glad that you got your money back. Now that you're out, I believe Eorzea is a better place. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Maybe just wait till after today´s maintenance?
They just started maintenace and doing some changes to the Duty Finder system (which was the major reason why they put login restrictions in the first Place) and hopefully also fix the Queue system. /fingers crossed.
I see this type of thread of late with each new, MMO and each time I say the same thing, that is a fraudulent claim, and it can come back to bit you in the ass.
F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to Proper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.

The game itself is not fine... If the game was fine I could log in and play, but I can't therefore the game is not "fine".
When you buy a single player game or even a FPS you are not told well hold on for a few days while we get our shit together, that would outrage people.
I'm quite aware of bad launches but in my personal <----- ( again this means me) exp, this has been the worst launch I have been apart of, mostly not the fact it had problems but the fact that it has taken them 4 days to do anything about them.
I'm sorry turning off character creation for certain servers is not a fix, its a band-aid, limiting the amount of players that can log on, is also just a band-aid.
When I played GW2 the game had some login issues, the issue seemed gone by day 2 of launch.
When I played TOR at launch the game was laggy and had bugs but the lag was gone by day 3 of launch.
When I played Rift at launch the game had long queue that would sometimes drop you after 2-3 hours of waiting, but sometimes they would not, and this issue was gone within 2-3 days because they opened up more servers.
These are my experiences with MMO launches, the experience may vary.
So sick of these screaming man-children (or just plain children) making cry baby threads like this one.
This is actually not the proper way to get a refund. If you really want one, just ask SE, they will gladly give you one.
Also, I call B.S.
Any bank would first ask if you tried to get a refund the normal way. Did they? If so did you lie to them? They then go through a mandatory investigation period while you get the money temporarily credited to your account. It is not instantly over the phone with a 30 day waiting period.
This launch is normal. Problems happen during every major mmo launch. Why do people not understand this?
I know you didn't get your fix like you wanted to, but you need to calm down and examine your behavior.
Again to anyone else considering this, just go through the proper channels, SE is pretty good about refunds. Or better yet, just play? The game has been fine for the last 2 days. It takes like maybe 5 min to log in during peak hours.
People like the OP make me ashamed to be a part of this community. I'm so sick of these threads. Get a grip people.
I have nothing to prove to someone on the internet.
You are starting to show your true colors my bridge lurking friend.
How would you like me to prove I did indeed get a refund? Post a screenshot if my bank statement to the internet?
Like I said if you want to call someone a liar over the internet be my guest most people on the internet are liars, but I will not find a purpose in proving anything to you.
I provided the information in which I had on getting a refund for this game.
Also as I said before a bank will not just do a charge back if they do not want to, and they will not put you in doo-doo if your bank is not as lenient as mine they will probly just tell you no, and that will be that.
Thing is though, all banks have chargeback policies. All of em, it's consumer protection for fraudulent charges, or refund refusal for faulty products. People would end up still in doo-doo though, because if the merchant pleads its case. I'll make an example.
Let's say Little Timmy has 70 dollars in his account. He buys the game for 60, so now he only has 10 dollars in his account. Decide arbitrarily that "Eh, not for me," so he initiates a chargeback. He now has my 60 dollars back and he's happy as cheese.
Oh wait, SE just saw that they lost money from the chargeback. They weren't even contacted, so they contact his bank and say it was a valid charge. They plead their case, smash their heads on the wall all the while the bank people are nodding their heads sagely, and Little Timmy blissfully ignorant goes and buy a blender for 30 bucks at walmart.
Bank finds in favor of the merchant, but he only has 40 dollars on his account because of the blender. So now Little Timmy's account is overdrawn by 20 dollars.

guildwars 2 had so many game breaking bugs on launch that it was silly, people where doing the same thing you are now trying to do chargebacks, and id be willing to bet several lost their cads as a result.
tor, well do I really need to talk about TORs launch
don't know a thing about rift, never played it had no intrest.
F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to Proper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.
The only time i've had trouble logging on was on the first day and i'm on one of the most popular servers. After 5 minutes of spamming the login screen the game usually lets me in but i guess that's too much for the impatient players...
Totaly agreed, its a launch and if you quit at day 2 becuase there are problems at a luanch you do not deserve to be part of the better part of the community. Hope you get your money back dude have fun with the next refund from the next new mmo.
All MMORPGs have their problems at launch. The only one that I've seen without 'real' problems was Aion back in the day, but aside from that you can (and should) expect problems at the launch of every game that does need the internet in one way or the other (SimCity also comes to mind). If OP wants a chargeback because of this, he most likely will never play any MMORPG again aside from the first 2 days
I got in first try tonight. I doubt I'll last past the first month because I don't really care for the game so far but I'd never throw a hissy fit like this just because I can't get in the first few days. OP must be new to MMOs and the internet.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

a single player game and small scale fps games dont work like mmos work. Do not compare them. GW2 had some issues like you said, but they have a lot of overflow servers to avoid the login and overpopulation issues that are troubling FFXIV. TOR and Rift also had issues but they had a tiny population at launch compared to FFXIV. FFXIV have people playing on PC and PS3 from EU and USA, all on the same group of servers. Yes they could have anticipated this but they would still have faced technical issues, thats for sure. Now Imagine if the PS4 was already out, another truckload of people on the same servers we are trying to log on.
If you want your money back thats fine, its your money, but the reasons you give are clearly from a person unfamiliar with how mmos work outside of the game.
Within a week everything will be fixed or much better. And as obsessive as the OP seems,he will be trying to start a new account when things are fixed. When he does, he will have to use another credit card, use new usernames and passwords and e-mails. Other things will be confused....Just a lot of problems getting the game started again.
Good old fashion servers, where you get to know the players. Thats what we have with FF14. I already have four true friends that I have on my friends list, ones that I met and chatted with in game. People that I never met before, I have not had that in a long long time. I also have a good guild that will be stable on one server......Comunity !
Remember GW2 Launch ? Our well oiled guild could not play as a team for over a month because of the overflow server system. Even when you got on your REAL server, all you had to do is zone and you were out of the REAL server again, and you zoned every 10 minutes.....To me that was crap !
Nothing else to play ....Well, I'm wrong, we have about a hundred and fifty mmo's that are playing marketing crap with it's F2P shit.....Have fun with F2P
why do that ?? how about you wait 1 week ?? the game have release recently , so everyone want to play
they will add server , fix stuft and error , and probably 1-2 day and you should be okay to play
that stupid cancel a good game that can last you for many year because you cant play RIGHT NOW ....
wow mmorpg player are sure ''special'' many of them look like manchildren , that just a game , relax and wait a few day omg...
my ps3 friend dont realy care that much they cant play right now btw , in 2-3 day or maybe one week they should play .
When did gamers stop being considered customers? Maybe it is the "manchild" who cannot live without this game so much that he would be willing to let a company take a dump on his front porch if it meant he would get to play their wittle game. As an adult I know I do not have to give these incompetent people my money. If a store refused to give me my item after I paid for it I would demand a refund, if they did not give it to me I would call the police. It is a matter of principle over playing a game. This company took our money but is not allowing us the product we purchased.
As of right now they are saying a fix is on the way "sometime next week" lol. Seriously? I have a 3 day weekend coming up and will not get to use the product I paid you for until next week? I could not even get on this morning to SEE the freaking game for the first time because of downtime lol.
Hell yes I want a refund, I can find something else to do until the next new MMO, screw SE.
Bottom line....why do all these MMO's suck at launch? Because look at all the lemmings here who accept it. The game companies know it.
So walcome to MMO gaming. It looks like you are newbie in MMOs because I am playing MMOs for 10 years and there was NO single MMO game which have not problems at launch. All of them had start like this. Its normal nothing new, everybody should expect this.
Totaly agreed, its a launch and if you quit at day 2 becuase there are problems at a luanch you do not deserve to be part of the better part of the community. Hope you get your money back dude have fun with the next refund from the next new mmo.

Aion had queues from start. Sometimes you had to wait for half hour/hour in queue.
Just because most games have a bad start does not mean we should tolerate it.
MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.
Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?
Call your bank say "The product is not as described.", they will probably ask for more information tell them the situation (The lady I talked to looked stuff up on the internet." after they see the game is unplayable by most standards they will say yes the product is "Not as described" and you will get your charge back. At least it worked for me, thought I would share.

You dont have much patience do you.. ?
Rather a well made game that sells extremely well ( a bit to much for them to handle ) than a game that is so bad it is unplayable. I have managed to play 30 minutes so far, and look forward to more servers open and things calm abit down.
Its not like they on purpose tried to scam you, and I can bet my left testicle that they will reimburse everyone for their lost gametime.
