And at the same time if they're 1.0 players they'll be logging on too. You can't beat the crowd, not by suspending sales that's horrible. I don't know what's up with Square Enix lately.

They can´t stop physical Box sales, as they would have to Call every shop all over the world.
They do however can easily stop the digital sales and so at least slow the overall sales down a bit.
So sales are only stopped when buying directly from SE site? Smart move if it is. They cannot control distributor retail sales other then from them directly. Sounds like SE lawyers gave good advice. Don't think they did this because 'we care about the fans'..they are a business and care about profit. This might be the smartest thing they did during this fail of a launch to protect themselves and the brand name.

Please, don't ever go into a business profession - you'll waste a lot of someone's money. Just wow.

So you think there could not be a potential problem if they keep selling a product they are unable to provide a reliable service for?
Selling too much is USUALLY an excellent problem to have. GW2 had that issue at launch and shut down their digital sales for a few days.
HOWEVER, GW2 also had overflow servers which eliminated ques. It still had some launch issues with people getting kicked off randomly, though.
The problem with FF:ARR atm truly is the inability to que. If a player saw that they were #15562 in line for their server, they could get up and do something else. However, with the 1017 error, it's impossible to even get into line. This is compounded by the inexplicable lack of an AFK-kick feature...that means people will stay in game while they sleep so that they don't have to deal with spending 2-4 hours trying to log in. It seems messed up, but I don't blame them
Add to this the fact that this is a subscription based game where time LITERALLY is money...and you have so very volatile segment of the community.
I've been assured by many people that the game is excellent and am eager to see some reviews. However, server expansion and server stability need to be taken care of ASAP if FF:ARR doesn't want to alienate players in the EU and NA. It's already effecting their metacritic score. It may not be justified, but it is the reality of the situation.

They are probably just buying themselves some time until...
Thank you very much for playing FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.
We would like to make a clarification regarding our previous announcement “Regarding Congestion in Japan Data Center Worlds (Aug. 27)” in which we stated that we are preparing to increase the capacity of our data centers.
The first half of the announcement regarding login and character creation restrictions was directed towards our players who would be playing during peak hours in Japan data center Worlds.
However, the second half of the announcement regarding increasing the capacity of our data centers was meant to also encompass North American and European data center Worlds and not just be limited to Japan data center Worlds.
We deeply apologize for causing concern amongst the North American and European community due to our lack of clarity. Capacity will be increased for data centers in all regions.
Once again, thank you for your understanding and cooperation to help us welcome more players to the game.
Ya, their just trying to stem the tide as much as possible until the dam is finished :P. It's a good move imo because this week is going to be hell either way :P.
And, yes people may go around it but if their smart they'll wait anyway because there is obviously and issue if a company is saying no you can't buy our game right now .

They're certainly in a pickle.
