I am sorry but I read some posts and man..... Seems like every game has gone so soft on PVP. I played Asherons Call Darktide server (FFA PVP), DAOC Mordred and WoW with numerous other games. Good PVP games that I have played.
But, the more I check out newer games and the so called PVP servers is pathetic. For instance my assumption going into WoW when I first started was I can fight anyone and everyone. I was so wrong and the PVP I sought after was instanced and such a small factor of the game.
I think WoW now realizes after 10 yrs their PVP is just as important as PVE. Thus why you see all the class and PVP focus changes coming in patches. But they are not the only game to put PVP on the back burner. SWTOR had the same problem with crap PVP with little focus and that was a huge downfall to its success as well.
Now, I was checking out Final Fantasy and the PVP. Horrible outlook that YOSHI has on the PVP. Not wanting players to get ganked while experiencing content. Well RETARD.. Make a PVP server problem solved. What my basic point is if people do not like PVP then give them PVE servers. Why not just throw up ONE server with Free for all PVP. Just ONE server! To appease the PVP addicts.
Every game has lost the concept of PVP and IMO alot of good gamers don't play for PVE. I mean if you like playing AI and knowing every move possible of a NPC then cool that works for you. But I highly doubt that becomes fun after awhile.
But for the PVP'r its endless no AI fighting. Its assuming and trying to predict whats next and how to overcome it. Now you can say what you want... BUT trust me PVP has the most following. Look at Twitch for example. Its not majority followed by PVE or Streaming PVE. PVP is just as important as PVE in developing a game.
So if any MMO company has a brain PVE and PVP should be 50/50 on the developing table. Not 90/10 like most games coming out. I still don't understand how they have not learned from WoW and multiple other games that seem to just put a half-ass effort in there PVP and wonder why Subs are in the crapper and F2p is a new option.
IDK just blown away with all the new MMO genre from what I started with.

PvP is popular. At least the e-sport version of it. There are plenty of highly successful pvp games .. LoL and WoT are two good examples. In fact, LoL has more 4x the active players than WOW.
If you just want pvp, go to the pvp only games. I don't see any MMOs are focusing on it. And it is not very useful to ask MMOs just to change for you.
My attitude is .. if i can find fun in MMO, then i play MMO. Otherwise, i will take my entertainment somewhere else. There is no point in asking an industry to change for you, because it is not going to happen. Just like i left MMO after tremendous bored by EQ, and didn't come back until MMOs are better games (for me).
If i don't remember wrong then Tera have a lot PVP server where you can FFA PVP
It good for OP there are still alots company open FFA PVP server together with PVE only servers.
Ready good ...
We also have a lot FFA PVP private game server make by FFA PVP player , so i don't think we can't find a place to enjoy FFA PVP .
And i don't think FFA PVP player need to share 50/50 with PVE in first place , it pretty nice to just skip the boring PVE part and jump in PVP from start.
Do you agree , OP ?
Loved the days of Asherons call and Dark age of Camelot, some great times.
I keep hoping for a good PvP MMO as well, too much carebear crap out there right now, especially with all the F2P games.
I've resorted to FPS and RTS games to keep my reflexes sharp.
I appreciate all your posts I sincerely do. Just to know there is other hardcore PVP players out there. I understand Tera is open world PVP. I just could not get into the weapon restriction of certain classes.
Care bear LOL have not heard that in awhile. Well if anyone is open to a MMO with few restrictions and great PVP HMU Asherons Call TD or DT.
Anyhow my point was the gaming industry needs to quit with the mainstream gaming MMO. Decent or the best MMOs came from little funding and built on a foundation of awesome Ideas.
The new generation is pay to win and super fast paced to reach end game content with boredom. With crap PVP that ends up instanced or secluded where people do not have to see it or deal with it.
IDK maybe I am old school and expect to much who knows. But thanks for replying and sharing opinions.
I am going crazy. All the new games suck today. I used to play a hyper-aggressive pk mud, called emlen mud, or Mortal Conquest, which became Connection Closed by Foreign Host (ccbfh), then mid-point void, then aturion dynasty, also branching off with void of reality and lands of chaos. lands of chaos was the best, the game was good vs evil, with no restrictions in pk or looting. You had a rating system and topten for warpoints gained by killing the enemy. There is NOTHING out there with the hard-core environment of traveling in groups or numbers and trying not to get ganked or killed. Equipment was rare in the game, the good items, and they were mob-specific rather than a little squirrel dropping the flaming broadsword of death or coins or whatever.
There were also remorts, this is what really made the game shine. In lands of chaos, you had to get level 50, and 500 warpoints to remort. Only one person managed to get this, in the beta, then the administrators said this was a test to see if anyone could get that high, and they lowered it to 100 warpoints. A bunch of darkies managed to remort then.
You had backstab, circle, casting area spells which can be broken by disturbing concentration (dealing more than 1 damage), then spam tackle and bash to really nail a few guys and get their elite +damage sets. You had to get fighter equipment to deal decent damage in the game, and this was not easy to get.
You didn't always try to fight something your level -- you grouped up (groups up to 4 had no experience split penalty) and tried to take down the biggest and baddest mobs you could manage.
Mages wielded gems to get higher mana and spell level, to cast the highest spells.
This was a really fun, competitive game. NOTHING out there today is like this, and it is ALL FOR PANSIES.
It pisses me off to no end, I log into maybe 10 mmos and am ultimately disappointed by the game trying to feed me some storyline, that everyone engages in and repeats. The story line in the games I played, was getting in a clique of the best players and savaging the other side until everyone quits.
I have a lot of ideas (I'm going to keep them secret maybe) on how to create the most hard-core and badass game on the market, that will completely rock the f--- (I'm scared of violating some bogus rules of conduct, there will be none on this game) out of everything out there.
How the hell do you get a game started? I don't know how to program. I wish I had money to fund some coders or programmers. Maybe get a nice codebase to start off of.
I am DYING knowing the gold, the promised land of gaming, and nothing out there comes close to it at all. I have been creating ideas and checking out the mmo field for several years, nothing is coming close you guys. Some crack programmers need to get a good codebase and make what will be the best game yet.
I am also a AC player, started it in 99 and honestly havnt found a game worth a crap since. especially for PVP.
I totally agree with the one server for open pvp it worked great for AC1 and i dont see why companies wont try it now. I mean its only 1 server, if it fails then close it no big deal.
but i think for myself alot of the problem is also the pvp mechanics in these games, coming from AC it took alot of skill to be good at pvp. took hours of play time against other players to get decent, in most of these easy mode games of today its so dumbed down any idiot can mash the CC button and kill you. not to mention stun locks when you fight more than 1 person.
the days of being able to fight and win against multiple people are long gone in these MMO CC fest auto lock games.
I agree with this, but I have to say that the developing companies are not the only one at fault.
The players are also responsible by paying and playing these games; most of them are content with staged PvP like BGs and arenas and that is why no quality open world PvP is being implemented.
Granted I did not play the main PvP oriented games that most have posted on these forums, but I enjoyed playing WoW back in 2005 when you could get polymorphed off you mount and engaged in PvP, now you cannot be polymorphed or hexed on the flying mount so most people avoid fights by taking to the sky; I also played WAR where you were dismounted on taking damage (even if WAR had RvR lakes it was nice). I miss having quality world PvP where you can roam around with personal goals (in WoW I would go and mine for my grenades or get some gold to enchant my upgrades) and see an enemy and engage for a resource or fun the fun of it.
Lately I play GW2, but this kinda sucks since same players that avoid world PvP in other games fight only when they are in great numbers; I usually fight against 2 and when the fight is not going their way the run back to the zerg group and then come to display their "skill". This game now it seems to be about numbers and while Anet shares fault in this, I think the players are ones who should be blamed.
I really hope that CU will be finished soon and will rise up to the promise before I give up on MMOs.
Also, it seems to me that most gamers are waiting for huge rewards when fighting other players, the spirit of competition and fun seem to have faded; for me the best reward is knowing that I was in a good fight and won, but I also settle with loosing a good fight; if any reward is added to this it is just icing on the cake. After all this is just a game, we play it to have fun not to make it a chore or to stay in one place and complain that game X is boring while playing it
