We are currently experiencing technical difficulties wherein players are being disconnected from instances on the North American and European data center Worlds. As a result, customers who were disconnected from said content are unable to log in.
The issue is being addressed, and new updates will follow as additional information becomes available.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
[Date & Time] From Aug. 31, 2013 12:53 p.m. (PDT)
[Details] - Disconnected from certain instances. - Unable to log in after being disconnected from certain instances.
I don't read their twitter account, but even if you add it, as has been said; this problem has little to do with disconnects and all with connects in the first place.
I find it hard enough to find the right communities in mmo's as it is. My fault since I will never ever bow down and apply to a guild (random applications to strangers that think a lot about themselves) yet will do a lot for a guild once in, I am not anti-social enough to find it easy to get into a guild these days. The reason I use the word "anti-social" is because it seems that most guilds these days want you to apply randomly instead of being able to find a guild because you teamed up with them and they find out you are a team player and fun to play with.
The reason I bring this up is that because I am unable to play most of my free time on the same server I started on I end up making alts on different servers and even though I randomly heal strangers it feels like a single player game now. I had to move to a Japanese server to even be able to play today and although I expected a lot of Japanese and goldsellers shouting about, nobody spoke until I kept insisting and even then only 1 replied.
I use the first "free" month to decide whether or not an mmo is worth it. I I have not option to feel at home on any server the change to subscribe gets close to zero, simple as that.
Download and install the AutoHotKey app as someone pointed out in another thread. If you don't want to do that, wait for them to get their new server farm/datacenter this week for NA customers.
bonus to all players = 7 more free days to compensate for last week.
period and case closed
I understand the notion of patience, I have little problems with startup troubles. It's just that the way they have handled it so far makes it impossible to get a clue on where you stand. Okay, the server is full, but how many are trying to get in? It doesn't say. So you end up either with the feeling of infinitely trying to get in with no notion on when it might succeed or make an alt and even that only IF there is an open server.
My personal complaint is not that I can't play half the time, but the reason I cant. If I see a queue with a 4 hour wait I know what to expect. It may be extremely annoying, but those 4 hours at least give you an idea on how long you have to wait. In the end those 4 hours may be 3 hour and 40 minutes or near 5 hours, but you have an idea. As it stands now you have no clue. You either keep trying while the queue normally would be those 4 hours or you give up.
Saying the servers will be upgraded next week is not "period and case closed" since it may still result in this problem, just to a lesser extend. Maybe the real queue becomes an hour instead of 4 ( just an example), but since you can't see it has little to no value unless they manage to get a complete removal of the "this world is full" BS with no clue on when it is not.

Dumbest thing is when the guild obviously wants you to join and keeps "inviting you to apply". Like the entire guild, "Hey please apply with us!"
I'm thinking "If you want me in the guild this much why not just click the button and invite me."
11.20 PM GMT (so 12.20 for most of Europe). Login servers were down from 10-11 PM. And currently I'm getting a "World is full" error.
Something feels odd here. How come I get a "World is full error" now, when I could log in earlier at peak time. Most of the kids are in bed, and hardly anyone has been able to get in for the past hour. So how is the world full?

I will not make any comment on your real life since that is nobody's business but your own, but what makes the FFXIV community a family to you compared to the communities of other mmo's? What makes that community so special? I am not asking to attack you, but in hopes the community is really that good. I have not been able to play enough to make a conclusion on whether or not the community is good or bad so I am curious.
For all those declaring they are going to quit the game if the server situation isn't fixed in the next two days, quit now. SE has already stated that Sept 4 is the maintenance day for brining online the new servers for both new world's and more concurrent player capacity for existing worlds. It really does seem this will fix our problem, though.
That said, it sure would have been smart for SE to figure out how to enable an auto-boot for afk (servers would still be struggling with capacity but at least a higher percentage of those in the game would actually be playing and the struggle to get into the game might have been eased somewhat).
Finally, I wonder if it was at all possible -- and maybe it wasn't -- but it sure would have helped is SE could have managed to turn on the new capacity by this weekend given that it was inevitable that the NA servers would get hammered over the 3-day Labour Day weekend in Canada and the U.S.

If they said that then that's a stupid comment, "Yeah we know there are problems, and we COULD fix them sooner, but we are going to wait." I guess I will be quitting, I wanted to try it over the 3 day weekend. Cause I paid for it when it was a steaming pile, and I am not going to spend any more on it to check out their second chance. I won't have time from after the weekend to the 9th.

It's not even Twitter.
It's right on the game's launcher.
