Just tried it myself and EU/NA servers are not available. Looks like I'll be playing an other game tonight and give FFXIV a new try tomorrow morning.
All we can do is hope that the upcoming patch will fix most/all problems we now have with logon. At least we get an extra 7 days to play (didn't FFXIV 1.0 start with an extra 7 days as well..? )

Thanks for confirming for me. I dont really remember much about about the original sub, dont think I ever paid one for it. Yeah, i am hoping things are fixed up as well, although it sucks they're doing maintenance during my prime play time, but at least I am off most of wed and thurs. Wheeeee.
That's been an ongoing error message since the head start launch, not just the last few hours. Admittedly today has been even worse than usual. To anyone not willing to spend hour after hour fighting the log in screen, it's not worth trying to get in.
Even then it will more likely be an exercise in pure frustration. Maybe better to just wait until after the fix actions on the 4th and see what's it like then.
Introducing new servers is one thing, but unless they increase the capacity of the current ones or allow free transfers, it will only be a partial response.
Players who have spent time leveling will be loathe to start again on a new server. They have to do something with the current server capacity or allow transfers.
The Lobby server congestion sometimes causes a hiccup (or in this case a burp I'd say) in the character selection screen. Sometimes the Start button won't highlight and other times the server lists won't load. They're actually there, but at that particular moment your client querried the lobby server for the world servers the lobby server took to long to respond and that fools the client into saying that it can't load sine it doesn't wait around very long to wait for a response. Just close the client and sign back in. I had to do this three times this morning to get on myself.
I think something is broken I'm getting 1017 without even clicking on a character. At this point I'm done with this game for the day. The more I try to play the more I just think I wasted my money on this P.o.S.
Honestly I was one of the peole who defended this game, and while I still firmly believe the game is worth it, these launch issues cannot be excused anymore, its been more than a week and things havent gotten any better.
I know they are saying more servers and optimizations are coming wednesday, and I hope it does fix most of the issues, but at this point I would advise anyone who asked me to wait a couple of weeks before picking up the game. (Not that you can even buy it atm).
I think they've given up on doing anything on the NA servers at this point until after Wed. Updates all day long about the JP issues, not a peep about NA/EU.
Got a 9k error last night and ever since then its been unable to find server list over and over, sometimes it cant find the JP servers either.
Occasionally It finds the list and i get to click on my character for 5mins trying to log in then it's Unable to find NA/EU all over again. Once I even made it in a queue just to get the 1017 at the end of it then unable to find server after that.
Im starting to think the only reason I keep playing is because it really makes me work for it lol

Exactly..
I canceled late last night/early this morning...
The fact they have had a rough launch is one thing, their piss poor response, and the fact that they flat out refused to even acknowledge there was an issue until Japanese servers began to get effected by the NA/EU carry over really showed me that SE does not care at all about their NA subscribers.
They have made one horrible decision after another since the CONCEPTION of FF XIV 1.0 and the relaunch of 2.0 just confirms it.
You know FF XIV is not the first or only MMO to rework and launch a 2.0 version. However EVERY other MMO that has done so has done it while keeping the servers live, using test servers to test the new 2.0 versions, and then launching the rework as a patched game update...
SE on the other hand pulls the plug for a year and hypes like it is a whole new game.
It's cheap, its lazy, and its no longer worth the stress.
I bought the game and cannot even create a character? Is this for real? I admit I haven't been following the game since its release but after 16 years of playing mmos I'd never expect to witness such disaster. I'm going to try returning the game tomorrow so I can get my money back. Square Enix is still a joke.
I've played in a lot of game launches in my time... but by now things should have been sorted out... the fact that I haven't been able to play in 4 days is really fucking terrible.
I have tried 6 times now to log in and don't even have a start button anymore.. I did get the no character pick 1017 for awhile . this game is really becoming not worth the time . I quit the 1.0 crap and now this .. after trying to get in for hour or more I really hate to look at my toon . login rage lol
also the big fix on wed. is not going to fix us legacy players or people that will not start new on the new servers.. looks like a mess for a time or until enough quit and then the game is nich like before .. sad they did work hard remaking it but bad planning is still bad game..
I think the best thing to do right now is to show some patience and wait till Wednesday, let it be, the game is worth it.
I know i am, i can wait a couple days, (i know, i know, coming from a guy who was on vacation last week and has played 10-16 hours a day since day one of early access) but it's far too frustrating to continually try and log in, as of today it's fruitless it would seem.
And people STOP with the worst launch ever BS, and you know it's 120% BS! People are playing crazy amounts, and good news spreads fast.
If you launched a failed mmo a couple years ago, revamped it, then came time to relaunch it with a minus 200% hype level, no fan fair, on nobodies radar, not even gold spammers cared, then you launch it and it becomes a MASSIVE HIT, literally a break out SUCCESS.
Prior to launch would you have spent any resources on a "What if we become the most popular mmo on the planet?" scenario.
No, and no one could have predicted how well received this game has been. So from now on for people new to reading comments about worst launch ever is really code for GREATEST LAUNCH EVER, because it's becoming the new 800 pound gorilla.
Going to be a sweet ride for the next few years, couple days ain't no biggie.

It really is a top 5 worst launch ever. Game runs great if you get in, but the AFK folks not logging out and taking advantage of the exploit all weekend really is compounding the LOGIN SERVER problems to make the game unplayable for 10's of thousands of potential customers .
800 pound gorilla; ummmmmm ain't gonna happen.
The launch parallels the launches of Anarchy Online and SWG. Couldn't log into either of those within the first 3-5 days. You would think SE had some experience with Login Server technology with FFXI.
It really baffles me how folks are so understanding of terrible launches and completely crap customer service "Here take my money, I really don't care if I can log in and play I can front you the cost of the game while you fix your crappy network.".
Wake up and demand better service for your hard earned dollars, pounds, euros or yen or else this nonsense keeps happening.
Originally posted by Ghavrigg "Unable to update group NA/EU character list." For 2 hours now it wont update the servers, except the JP ones. Worse than the 1017 ever was.
Looks that way, I was playing since late at night until around 6 AM EST and got kicked out while questing. Since then up to now 3:55 PM EST , the NA/EU are still down / messed up / full loaded. And was soooo close to level 30 and becoming a white mage!

It just shows how desperate people are on playing a great MMO after years of free downloadable garbage, otherwise they wouldn't have put 30-50$ on FF14 in the first place. And I'm pretty sure SE didn't anticipate FF14 to be this OMGWTFBBQpopular.

I think lots of people are getting tired of being told to have patience. Patience through a day or two, yeah that's fine but it's been over a week since early access. The time for being patient is gone, and it's time for the player base to be outraged and make sure SE feel the full brunt of the outrage.
You know who could have predicted how well this game was being received? SE - by counting the number of pre-orders and 1.0 owners. Yep, it was that simple. All they needed to do was make sure they had enough servers to accommodate the people who had already given them money.
This is the worse MMO launch I have ever witnessed and I was around for WoW and AoC. There are people who bought the game who are literally unable to create a character even if they get logged in due to terrible planning on SE's part. If I left my customers high and dry for a week+ I'd be out of a job.
Rage on folks, make sure you let SE hear loud and clear how pissed you are. If you're angry enough to ask for a refund - go for it. It's time devs learn that just because it's an MMO you're releasing it's not an excuse to screw over your customers. If any other business treated their customers the way MMO developers did those businesses wouldn't exist.
TBH if all of you AFKers would disconnect, stop being selfish and let others play... we'd have less problems log in... IT'S mostly SE's fault but AFKers too!
Think about someone else than yourself... log out... and log in WHEN you are playing. That's it. Problem solved until Wednesday!

I don't care if someone is a Legacy high class or whatever that mean... EVERYONE should have a shot. Legacy or not... Have a queue system that works, increase cap like you said, add an afk kick!!! (after ~1 hour afk I'd kick them out!) and people use ur head... DO NOT stay afk for hours and hours so when ur back from work you can start playing right away while some of us spend hours a day trying to log in while doing chores around the house.

They could easily do 2 re-boots per day to boot eh afkers and give everyone else a chance.
Aside form this; what little i have played of the game; its really not good at all. Im not sure where any of the cheerleaders for this game are getting their info.
