Once in game it runs better than most MMOs that have had over a year to apply fixes..... SO..... I don't see why you have to wait to buy? SE has been fixing the issues and as far as I am concerned the game is far better than most MMOs out there to play, heck I even upgraded to Collector status!
How do you upgrade to collectors status? I will probably be upgrading mine also.
There is an option on the SE services site page. It was $19.99 to upgrade from your 1.0 account.
Anyone else waiting for these issues to be resolve **** So that they can purchase the game? -- At what point do you look sideways at the company, and say REALLY?
I get it, people - I do; similar issues have occurred with other titles during their launches, and if this was 2004 or even 2008 - and a first time launch title perhaps i'd give that red herring fallacy more credit then a simple face palm.
However - Not only are we sitting here, in 2013 (near 2014); over a week and half after the launch, - but this is a reboot, a second chance for a company that has fallen quite far from their legendary status they once enjoyed. To make matters worse, i do remember a multi-phase beta test that was engineered to give them some insight on server stress capabilities. --
That is IF we overlook the fact, that as the fan-boys cry, this -does- happen very often during launches. That makes this the most forseeable, and arguably most preventable issue to ever come across.
Now, if i owned the title perhaps my remarks would be more emotionally provoked. Now, i'm sitting slightly more curious than anything. --- I have not even been able to purchase the game. With the current dry spell of both MMO, and non-MMO titles in circulation; i'm giving this title it's fair time to straighten itself out , however i'm getting tired of waiting, and starting to look (and hoping) to find a different and less mainstream title to occupy my time til something of value makes it's way ---
So what i'm essentially asking, is what do you think is a reasonable time to wait? - Do you think in a week this will be resolve? 2 weeks? 3? -- A few days? I'd like some ideas on what you guys would believe to be the amount of time before this game is playable, and once again available for purchase, so i can make some choices as to where i put my money. ~ Thanks.
I don't recall a similar issue historically in which a game company halted sales for over a week while trying to fix their game. I stopped waiting by the end of last week..
Does anyone recall a launch similar to this one where the company stops selling their game for a week and a half?
They stopped selling WoW for longer than that after launch. They also stopped selling GW2 for about 2 weeks or so.
I don't buy second hand accounts due to the original account holder being able to recover their account by providing their credit card number and recovery questions. Although I don't know how SE handles account theft issues but there is no reason why if you get an account from someone else they can't go through the process of recovering their account if they later change their mind. So, I prefer to outright buy my own genuine account.
Might actually make a trip to the shops provided that their login issues have been fixed or at a magageable state where I can play without waiting too long to get in.
I have pretty much stopped caring all together about FFXIV, its not a good sign to me all that they can't seem to get their problems in order to open up digital sales. I give them a chance to make an impression and with this game I definitely enjoyed my time in the beta but, the more I see that they can't resolve even the most standard of MMO problems or are even planning for them, just doesn't convince me that these guys (even after the debacle that was the first release) know what they are doing. The amount of apologies from the game designer does nothing for me, don't apologize, don't go to websites and try to appease the players and the potential buyers just get your damn game in order and that will be all the apology anyone needs.
There are just too many games on the market to deal with this kind of inadequate planning and back-pedalling. Trying to spin this into a positive is just that, spin. I absolutely hate when people try to apologize for their game like if this hasn't happened so many times in the past enough to justify our complaints or that Square Enix is "different" and aren't held to the same standard as other MMO developers. I was really excited for this game before this mess, I was ready to jump on board but now I have zero confidence that these people know what they are doing or will be able to deliver quality content in a timely manner after launch. There are tons of great PC and console games coming out soon that I see no reason at all to sit and wait for these people to finally get organized.
The thing is, a good argument could be made that this is happening because they DO know what they are doing. The novice thing to have done, IMHO, is what many other companies have done in the past, and that is panic and add a whole slew of new servers and unnecessary band-aid patch work, only to be left with dead servers and players screaming for server mergers a mere couple of months later. That in and of itself would have been deemed as failure and would have placed FF:ARR in a position to have to defend itself against a fickle MMORPG community that deems merging servers as failure. There are nay-sayers waiting in the wings as we speak waiting to jump on the doom and gloom band wagon the moment something happens that they can grasp on to spread some negative BS such as "THEY ARE MERGING SERVERS ... FF:ARR FAIL !." Heck, there are doom and gloomers out there as we speak and FF:ARR has jammed packed servers, has stopped sales, and players screaming to get in.
The one thing that has to be taken into consideration is that although there has been plenty of external problems as it pertains to server loads, sales, and registration, once you are in the game, game play has been a fun and trouble free experience. There hasn't even been any significant lag to speak of. I know I haven't experienced, or heard of anyone experiencing, any lag or bugs in game. Trust me, I understand the frustration that many players have, heck I wasn't able to log on much last week myself, but to say these guys don't know what they are doing is nonsense. Yes, they were absolutely caught off guard with the initial overwhelming success of FF:ARR. Since then they have simply gone into crisis control mode and, with the exception of perhaps failing to act sooner by implementing an auto AFK boot, they have done a very good job. They have been very cautious and calculating in their response and are responding in a manner that takes the long term success of the game into consideration.
1 - Beware the trolls. They go in and incite people.
2 - As previously noted a bunch of times, WoW and GW2 both stopped their sales for a while. Why are we still beating this dead horse? If you want an honest comparisson, name one game that completely shut down, changed, and relaunched with this large of a following.
3 - I don't need to go to the technical forum because I'm not having any issues. The ONLY day I had issues logging in was Labor Day (before the maintenance). I've yet to have to wait more than a minute to get in since.

I looked around but could not find any information regarding World of Warcraft stopping sales, but that was a while ago. I did find this for GW2, Sale Halt so that's at least one other mmo who had a "similar" launch experience... I am surprised about GW2 I never had a problem purchasing, playing, or anything negative with it but there it is.

Except you could still purchase GW2, just not from Arenanet directly. In that article it says "To be clear, box and digital sales are still available via our retail partners." With FF XIV, pretty much everywhere you look is out of stock/unavailable.
I'm ok with the sales delay because my vip on lotro does not run out until Nov 15..but come Nov 16th if I still cannot purchase ffxiv I'm gonna mail a letter to that producer nakitomi or whatever his name is expressing my displeasure.

Lucky you I spent about 45min searching and reading articles. Not much information except that it was pulled, the joystiq article is equally vague not that I am doubting it. Well interesting

SE fixed the login issues on Tuesday/Wednesday.... I have had no issue playing the game since.

The proof, my good friend, is in the Prison Pudding.
Good for you but go check technical section of official forums a lot of players are still having issues.

Took 1 search. http://forums.anandtech.com/archive/index.php/t-1505380.html The comments themselves are great,! somethings never change. another http://www.joystiq.com/2005/01/13/world-of-warcraft-pulled-from-shelves/ This very site even has some amazing WoW history, http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/15/view/forums/forum/432/page/641 This is about the time the game started drying up on shelves. They even had to pull sales in europe.
