Don't like Trinity, will I enjoy the game?

raslirasli Member UncommonPosts: 56

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question about the game.  The game seems interesting and has got a lot of good reviews, however there is one thing that holds me back, I never like trinity based games.  I used to play mud and DnD that are not trinity based and really did not enjoy my experience in trinity based MMOs that I played.  Given this, do you think I will enjoy FFXIV: ARR? Thanks.

The game is based around the trinity, and has forced group content.

If you dont like the trinity why would you enjoy a game based around it?

  • raslirasli Member UncommonPosts: 56
I don't know, heh.  I was hoping most of the challenging pve and coming pvp can be done as hybrid I guess...
  • IkedaIkeda Member RarePosts: 2,751
Nope, no hybrids in this game.  Everyone relies on someone else for something they're missing.

This game is made for people that want to work with other people and to depend on other peoples abilities for success.  Tanks healers and DPS actually mean something in this game.

Wife and I play and are enjoying it quite a bit. For the most part we can do everything just as a duo, neither of us is a healer.

That said, the main story forces you on several occasion to have to do both solo and grouped content, while technically you could skip it, it would make several things unavailable to you like companies, mounts, special abilities and such. So for the most part you HAVE to do it. The group content is based around the trinity. You couldn't do it without the 3 roles present.

So it's not quite accurate to say the whole game is based on the trinity, but there are major quests that are based around the trinity. If you hate the idea of having to do a 4-man 30 min dungeon then look elsewhere. That said, we like to play by ourselves and we haven't had any trouble doing the first 3 dungeons. The duty finder had us in a group in less than 3 mins and we completed all 3 dungeons on the first try. If you're an mmo veteran it's pretty easy to complete them if you do your roll in the trinity.

Yeah....you should probably pass on this game then OP.

This game would probably not be for you OP.

It has that old ancient, archaic MMORPG logic of actually having you play with others.

You don't have to play with others.   But you lose out on a lot of content if you don't

its been so long since I've grouped. I am being forced to knock the rust off of my minuscule grouping skills. Thank god for the console players though.  Some of them guys make me look like a pro. :)

Oh god yes, I've never seen a group of MMO players so clueless as to how to not play like Rambo. And that I've had to say an embarrassing amount of time "No, you can't just stand next to that bomb when he explodes". Usually to the same person more than once.

Believe or not, but the "bomb" player is far more likely to be a PC player lol.  The bomb monster is a Final Fantasy staple XD.

lmao Console players actually are just terrible at life...(FF14 life I mean).

So used to just running and gunning... Watch them try and run thru a dungeon and they spam random attacks in the most uncoordinated manner. Not talking or making tactics... just playing.

Its so hilarious, I'll join Duty Finder and PuGs just to watch people squirm, and I'll normally not teach them shit. Trial by Fire I say.

This game just doesn't have trinity in it.

    It baths in it.

It is made from the core of its foundation in it.

    It is consumed with it.

No, you will probably not like this game if you don't like Trinity.

That's not fair to the console players.  Targeting and FATEs are really difficult I found to do on the PS3.  For that stuff I usually play on the PC.

Crafting/Gathering and Hunting Logs are quite enjoyable for me on the PS3 however.

Same goes for non-trinity games like Gw2 o.o" I don't see your point

If combat is the only thing you can enjoy in any form of game  then yeah, you will not like this game. However, luckily people can enjoy  other things besides combat in games; so if you decide to give it a try, simply do not focus on the combat. Perhaps try the crafting & gathering professions?

Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately I don't like crafting at all.  Besides combat, I like sense of adventure, wonders of explore and RP etc.  Does this game evoke the sense of adventure and danger like EQ did?

IMO no MMO has. Sadly EQN wont as well. Will say this as for EQ game play. The dungeon runs are as good as any EQ dungeon crawl I have done there. You need a real trinity team working together to make it. If you dont play together and know how to play you will die. This game takes skill with a fast learning curve. Level 30 + you start to see what teaming is really like. Sadly you dont seem to like the trinity.

Nonsense....GW2 is far from group play in most instances imo.

Up until level 80, I didn't need anyone and I felt like generic Ranger #34503.... Spamming my skills and using my pets to the best of my abilities like every other ranger there who didn't matter.

In FF14...I matter.....ALOT. If I don't do my job and do it well, we will more than likely die horribly and I will be blamed for it. I matter, my party members matter, what we can and can't do for one another Matters!

Trinity is all about cooperation and coordination.

Games without it, like GW2, for ex, have some of the worst grouping imaginable.  5 soloists sharing a chat and instance isn't much of a group.

FXXIV has plenty of solo idiot mode (questing a one armed chimp could dominate, mindless fate zergs, etc) - it's not like you group constantly, but you do need to group to fully experience the game's content.

Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

No offense but this is a post to seek information, not about the pros and cons of trinity vs non-trinity.  Suffice to say I don't agree with your opinion about non-trinity and GW2 in general but I respect your taste in trinity combat.

Considering the armory system I'm sure there are plenty of hybrid opportunities in the game, but they may not be relevant in group settings.

We apologize for "derailing" your post but in our defense.... You asked "Will I enjoy the game"

The ONLY correct answer to that question is, "I don't know"..OR..."how the hell am I supposed to know what You like!"

We can only tell you that Its Trinity and based on what you asked.....the answer is no.

Again, apologies on getting off topic.
