A notice to the players of FFXIV:ARR: Please leave your free will to the door when you step in, thank you.
yeah, heh. I thought it was the other way around.
Are you serious? No. A game encourages players to play a certain way on a very deep level. And the players that tend to stick with the game fit those design ideas. Someone who doesn't like soloing isn't going to stay in a game thats mostly about soloing. A person who likes roleplaying isn't going to play a game with no RP options.
Games are a product of players imho. They are nothing without people playing them. What you're talking about is more of a philosophical debate. You're putting it as matter of fact. Are you up for a discussion? Or is this just another Im right your wrong thing.
I have 13 years of anecdotal evidence to back me up, so yes I'm up for a right vs wrong thing.

The only game where I saw the community fly in the face of the game design was in LotRO, and only just barely then. It was still insanely anti social compared to other MMOs.

    I appreciate the heads up.

Bullshit.   Maybe you talked to a few more people but the games mechanics are still same. You can't deny it with a simple one liner. You should have just said it's not the games fault it's yours. Which again is bullshit.
    I roleplay and craft.
Foom and I are on the same page with this game and what I've been finding out from asking people who don't like the game is that they don't CRAFT or participate in anything other than combat. I have no problem with that but the game is heavy on the crafting side and is ripe for role playing.

I DO have a problem with people mis-representing the game or making uninformed comments about the game based on what they HEARD.

Yeah I will be the first to say I understand if you don't like this type of game. I guess its the burden of playing mmos mostly for the non combat aspects though. You get people bashing its entirety based on their distaste for only certain aspects.

And there is nothing wrong with that. If people have no interest in crafting obviously they will lack experince in that department so they will criticise the game on basis of features that appeal to them. That however doesn't mean they are dishonest. It simply means that they have no interest in crafting / gathering or roleplay part.

Every MMO works this way when players give their opinions. No one forces themselves into an activity just for the sake of giving a positive opinion even if the said activity doesn't appeal to them.

Bashing its entirety. You even highlighted it when you quoted me. Yes I agree there is nothing wrong with bashing a game for aspects you are interested in. But there are a lotta haters who bash the entire game while openly admitting they dont even participate in crafting or rp. Thats just trolling at that point.

If you don't like the combat or quests, say that. Don't say the whole game sucks because then people like me say "well I think the crafting is great", and the usual response is, "who cares about crafting anyway."

So yeah the clarification matters heh.

The principle stands regardless of the game.@community@mmorpg.com - Sorry about the post earlier. After reading again I see that it was overly harsh.

see thats why I like you, Tor. you're a decent human being hehe
