You probably have primarily played the various EQ/WOW clones then.
Even in those raid centric games, you have unique things you can do. For instance, a world first kill on a raid boss, or better, a world first clear of the latest heroic raid, is something that can happen only once.
The hunter epic quest back in vanilla WoW would be a good example of decent gamish accomplishment. Soloing Valley of Death in AC1 with a CLaW mage (Creature, Life and War) without melee defense of course was quite fun too, kept you on your toes during fights that lasted half an hour.
"Since everyone is on the same path, and no other viable paths really exist, the only way to be unique is to be the first to kill things or the highest person that is killing things."

This wasnt a solo accomplishment but these are mmorpgs. I would have to say defeating the Lich King in Wrath. Was really my first taste of raiding and when we finally defeated him, I did have a sense of pride and felt comradery for the first time in a video game. The lich king is who brought me to wow. I set out to defeat him. I had never played mmorpgs prior, little did I know mmorpgs were not a 4 hour gaming session to which you can beat fhe game in one day, but rather a living world to which you could progress and socialize. I had a tremendous amount of build up leading to the defeat of the lich king. Considering all other games I had ever played I was able to win in less than a week and I had been chipping away at the lich king for over a year. After he was defeated it was like a weight had been lifted off of my chest. I never raided again.
Not really an acheivement since i didn't get anything, but still one of the funniest moments of my MMO history:
Some rich guy with dragon claws and yellow partyhat came into runescape wilderness, followed by like 15 people (guess he was famous). I was using my antirush setup with d bow and 2x vengeance. I went and stood like 10 tiles away from him, and soon enough, he d clawed me. I got him to like 5% hp, and he got teleported by ring of life, leaving all his fans there laughing.
I applauded at this. The moment you consider an mmorpg an accomplishment, ask yourself what was going on in your life that you neglected. How was your relationship life? What education were you pursuing? What were you doing to level up "in real life?"
Gaming is a great escape. But the only folks that I feel deserve to state that what they are doing is a measurable accomplishment, are the disabled, or folks who are dealing with various struggles in their life. In other words, if mmorpg'ing is the one positive outlet someone has, then by all means pursue it. I read once that Robin Williams used online gaming to deal with his addiction to cocaine. He beat the habit. That there, is an accomplishment.
Keep gaming - I know I will. But measure it in very small amounts versus the real accomplishments that come with every day life.
Embarrassing.
OP didn't state any comparison of 'accomplishments' in MMOs to that in 'real life'. No way to gauge how he/she defines either. They stated their terms obviously enough.
You don't define other peoples accomplishments. That's up to them. But congrats, you have accomplished massive levels of patronising. In REAL LIFE. Kudos.
"HEY DISABLED PEOPLE, YOU CANT 'ACCOMPLISH' WHAT WE ABLE-BODIED CAN, PLAY THIS MMO"
Embarrassing.
What's embarrassing is you didn't understand the post. Perhaps you personalized this to your own sense of alleged mmorpg accomplishments and didn't have enough processing power to get that I merely stated that "so called regular folk" should be leveling in real life, not using an mmorpg to gauge accomplishments. However, I didn't want to seclude people with disabilities, since I have a few friends in that boat (one has severe PTSD from time overseas in the army)....I defended their right to state somethign online could be an accomplishment.
So yes...embarrassing is a good way to express your perception here.
What part didn't I understand?
I don't have any pesonal MMO accomplishments. Nevermind Alleged. Did I allude otherwise?
LOL at processing power. Yes you said, it's mandatory for 'regular'(not disabled) folk to level (so much lol) in 'real' life to gauge accomplishments....
......but 'irregular'(presumably) (disabled) folk can get get legitimate accomplishment in MMOs....
You're embarrassing. The way you define or understand 'accomplishment' is embarrassing. The way you pigeonhole the disabled is embarrassing.
I think you missed my point. Being addicted to alcohol and quitting is a massive achievement to those people. To call them out on it and heckling them is just childish. Same goes for MMOholics.
I got your point, and of course it's a massive achievement for them. But posting about it in a thread designed (presumably) for drunken highjinks seems misplaced and self righteous. If you quit drink or MMOs or anything then by all means post in a thread designed for that purpose or create one yourself.
Besides, rudedawg may not of been an addict. Rudedawg?
He might have been self-righteous. But all this has shown is the insecurity of both Dogblaster and Rudedawg. If Dogblaster felt targeted by a random comment on an open forum he obviously has some issues with either leaving MMOs or his life outside the virtual worlds.
Maybe it would be wiser to not defend Dogblaster for his insecurities and just politely comment on Rudedawg post that it is out of place?
I feel like you can't read. (Maybe English is not your first tongue, I honestly don't mean this to patronize)
Neither dogblaster or rudedawg (I can't believe I'm typing this) has shown insecurity. Rudedawg's (really?) post was out of place, and egotistical in its design to shift focus of the thread to...I don't know. The expression troll has been used in lesser circumstance.

Rudedawg was showing signs of projection. Rudedawg thought that having accomplishments in MMOs are unfavorable attributes to have, hence he felt the need to note that by commenting as he did. Whether or not he had problems to stop playing MMOs were purely speculations. They are both insecure.

I have had many, many accomplishments in my MMORPG history, but I cannot think of any that would eclipse this:
Getting level 50 in Everquest (when it first came out many years ago). It was NOT guaranteed to get there (like so many games now) and it took my many, many months.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Everquest 1, Magician: Epic Orb of Mastery, or Epic 1.0
1- When i became a hero in my server (the champions of the warlock/arcana lord class).
2- When i set traps to make people drop good stuff (mainly gear) that costs weeks or even months of farming to be made. I placed lowbie friends to taunt people until they get enraged and pklized them, what makes them become "red" (a PK), then i get out of my hiding spot and kill them.
I think you missed my point. Being addicted to alcohol and quitting is a massive achievement to those people. To call them out on it and heckling them is just childish. Same goes for MMOholics.

You realise the irony in this, right? I have given you several reasons to my line of thought and you haven't once actually made any reasoning around why I am wrong. Call it what you will, buzzwords, nonsense or whatever you please. In either case I still study psychology.
And regarding blue, maybe you should re-read it. I never claimed he had said that he was better than anyone. I said that Dogblaster understood it as such. Hence why I wrote "Saying" in quotation marks. If English is your first language you should be ashamed of it. And if it isn't, it is still mediocre at best and filled with grammatical errors as well as spelling errors.

What irony? Do enlighten me...Ok let me break this down for you. Ready? Cool.
1) "You obviously interpreted it as if he claimed he was better than you." No he didn't obviously. You're assuming. You appear to do that a lot.
2) "Quitting MMOs are a big achievement. MMOs can be like abusive relationships; expensive, time-consuming, dramatic BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH to make your own life fun." You spent the next 2 paragraphs talking about shit which literally no-one was talking about. You also couldn't assume it. But you were. Awesome.
3) "I think you missed my point. Being addicted to alcohol and quitting is a massive achievement to those people. To call them out on it and heckling them is just childish. Same goes for MMOholics." This was your next post, again, no-one in this thread has mentioned mmo addiction. You decided to interpret stuff for yourself. Hence my apprehension about your ability to read english, because you don't appear to be reading what is being said.
4)"But all this has shown is the insecurity of both Dogblaster and Rudedawg." You said this, they didn't show it, you assumed it.
5) "Dear god, mate. If I couldn't read, wouldn't that reflect on my writing/spelling capabilities?" You take offense at my comment, even though I said I dont mean to patronize. But your not reading what has been said before, just interpreting as you like.
6) "he is most likely having troubles either leaving an MMO or building a serious relationship (not necessarily intimate) with someone outside the game. Once again all your points are "You assume". Yes, I do. But I base my assumptions on psychological analytics. And everyone is insecure about something. You're insecure about your grammars and in turn to that you will reply "Nuh uh, you are insecure about yours!". Problem is, I know my lingual abilities are pretty top-notch and I don't make excuses for when they aren't.
If you had any education regarding the psychoanalytic studies at all this could actually have been an intellectual conversation. Although, the irony in this is that we've been arguing about something completely irrelevant to the thread. Something you were complaining about, remember?
Anyhow. I'm done with you. Take your ignorance elsewhere.

Seriously, what idiot plays video games to feel like they accomplished something? It's entertainment. It's a way to waste time. That's all. If this is the biggest accomplishment in your life, something is seriously wrong.

Yeh. But my opinion is that it differs between pve and pvp.
Pve has no real achievement. Whatever happens in a game ... is by design from the developers. It is an illusion of achievement, not true achievement.
However, i do believe professional e-sport is different. Beating a top player in LoL or SC2 is little difference from beating someone at chess, or a physical sport.

Good thing no one mentioned anything like that. We were talking about gaming accomplishments, not real life stuff. Next time read the title of thread or the first post, should give a hint on what's happening.

You are not alone in that feeling. It is a time sink and hopefully a fun one!

Holy frickin' drama, man. Even though they are merely video games, people can still derive some sense of accomplishment along the lines of completing a puzzle or crossword etc. This is what happens with "interactive entertainment" compared with entertainment where you just sit and watch and eat.
"...Biggest accomplishment in your life...". Give your head a shake, man. Wow.

Who said anything about these being the biggest accomplishments in anyone's real life? We're talking about biggest accomplishments IN THE GAMES we play. People need to stop trying to belittle others by twisting things around and trolling every thread and discussion in the internet and turning them into a pissing contest. You must be really desperate person .. I am really sorry for you. Because anyone who needs to prove themself on the forums and act like they are grown up and mature must have really bad real life
Funny thing is that it worked. You obviously interpreted it as if he claimed he was better than you. Quitting MMOs are a big achievement. MMOs can be like abusive relationships; expensive, time-consuming, dramatic and pointless.
There are a lot of people out there still playing WoW and still constantly asking for when the next big MMO comes out so that they can leave it, but when it does come out it turns out not to be like WoW. All their memories, achievements and progress doesn't exist there and it scares them to just leave behind all that time and money they invested in WoW. Same goes for most MMOs and there are a lot of people who are having a hard time quitting them.
Real life is better. Maybe not always but it is. A lot of people play games to escape the real world either when it is boring or when it is too hard in the same way alcoholics drink. Sure, they're having fun but the moment it turns into something you just do it isn't really fun anymore. It takes a lot of work to make your own life fun.
So, ask yourself this;
Would your comment be any different if the thread was named "What's your greatest drinking story?" and he had answered "Quitting. Life is so much better without it."
I agree with on some points and disagree on others. For starters comparing an mmo to a real life relationship sort of can't be done. Particularly when you say that they're pointless. The one big and most important thing about relati

Yea this place...you could put forth a simple question like what is your favorite color and get a response on along the lines of how you are either a) not sensitive to color blind people b) wasting your time on visual items when you should be concentrating on really important stuff...
Anyway,
My two biggest accomplishments in MMO's were probably in very old games now,
I was once part of a guild on UO called shadowclan, hard RP semi pvp type guild, I was a member from around the time it moved shards till it became so big it was getting attention on the internet and even attracting the game designers to pop around every now and again. I made it to leader of one of the three sub clans and we just seemed to make some really great stories at the time. A lot of people thought we were crazy because we put so many restrictions on our members for RP reasons and we would never be able to win fights, but the play style became so popular we were able to zerg things, and I was always happy that no one ever abused those numbers by going on a griefing rampage (we always gave loot back to people we killed..or rather we ignored it and let them get it back without killing them)
I guess the other would be playing a small race in Gemstone...that game has an encumbrance system based on weight vs character body weight so playing the small races is hard because a gold filled chest may make you so heavy you couldn't fight...there was something satisfying about digging in and playing on anyway when the world wasn't full of the same class/race combo (for awhile I was the only one)
oh and congrats to BCbully getting elected in Wushu is no easy task.
Honestly the best achievement I've ever accomplished was in World of Warcraft. My fellow guild mate and I started a fist fight duel in Dalaran sewer, which turned into a naked brawl on the streets of Dalaran after discovering a glitch that allowed us to fight in the city without being taken back to the duelling area. It was literally the funniest/best moment in my gaming history, we were on a heavy populated server as well so we had quite a big group of observers egging us on as we traded blows punches.
The responses in this thread pretty much summarise why I don't check in here much. Jesus, someone just asked on a site dedicated to MMO's for an example of what people thought was the thing they had done best at whilst playing an MMO. There are a lot of jerks around here who seem to hate playing games.

It is not healthy to only be friends or date people whom play the same game as he does. It leaves rarely any room to grow as a being.
Rudedawg was showing signs of projection. Rudedawg thought that having accomplishments in MMOs are unfavorable attributes to have, hence he felt the need to note that by commenting as he did. Whether or not he had problems to stop playing MMOs were purely speculations. They are both insecure.
BLUE: It does. He clearly felt targeted by it. Usually when people feel targeted by something it is because they can relate. When he felt like Rudedawg was trying to boast about quitting an MMO and "saying" that he was better than him he took it personally.
GREEN: Your name is Monkey_Crusher... Come'on mate. You're making this too easy.
Anyhow, I base my assumptions on psychoanalytic theories, I'm guessing it isn't an area of your expertise. Feel free to read up on "Superiority Complex" and "Projection".
Everquest 1, Magician: Epic Orb of Mastery, or Epic 1.0
My better accomplishments ocurred in Lineage 2:
1- When i became a hero in my server (the champions of the warlock/arcana lord class).
2- When i set traps to make people drop good stuff (mainly gear) that costs weeks or even months of farming to be made. I placed lowbie friends to taunt people until they get enraged and pklized them, what makes them become "red" (a PK), then i get out of my hiding spot and kill them.
YELLOW: I apologise. It isn't your writing or spelling, it's your reading comprehension that causes concern.
RED: He didn't obviously feel targeted. You presume so, based on very little indeed. "It's a defense mechanism called "Superiority Complex". As soon as he read the post he felt like he was being judged for the time and importance he allocates in MMOs. He is most likely having troubles either leaving an MMO or building a serious relationship (not necessarily intimate) with someone outside the game. It is not healthy to only be friends or date people whom play the same game as he does. It leaves rarely any room to grow as a being."
This is a paragraph of pure conjecture and nonsense. You assume so much and know so little. There are a myriad of reasons for such a reaction, in which you presume to know the answer. Oh dear.
BLUE:He didn't 'clearly' feel targeted by it. Another assumption. Rudedawg didn't even say he was bettter than X.
Green: Just joking re: names really.
You probably shouldn't assume so much on so little evidence, but thanks for the buzzwords. Feel free to read up on "you are misinformed" and "I'm not the only one who has studied anything ever".
It is not healthy to only be friends or date people whom play the same game as he does. It leaves rarely any room to grow as a being." Yes. I'm sure he 'likely' is (sarcasm). You're literally talking shit at this point.
7) "Rudedawg was showing signs of projection. Rudedawg thought that having accomplishments in MMOs are unfavorable attributes to have, hence he felt the need to note that by commenting as he did. Whether or not he had problems to stop playing MMOs were purely speculations. They are both insecure." No, they aren't necessarily
8) "It does. He clearly felt targeted by it." Wow, I admire your clarity.
9)"If English is your first language you should be ashamed of it. And if it isn't, it is still mediocre at best and filled with grammatical errors as well as spelling errors." It is. Grammatical errors on a forum? Oh no. Spelling errors? Dear lord.
I love it when someone comes to gaming forums, steering the conversation off topic and giving his high opinion and moral lecture of things. We do appreciate your guidance, even if we are "just gamers" and nothing like you good Sir.

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
Wow.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Yeh. i view it as no difference than watching tv, movie, or reading a novel.
Who said anything about these being the biggest accomplishments in anyone's real life? We're talking about biggest accomplishments IN THE GAMES we play. People need to stop trying to belittle others by twisting things around and trolling every thread and discussion in the internet and turning them into a pissing contest. Now I remember why I stopped posting here, again... because this crap is allowed to happen. Cesspool.

In EQ
First enchanter on my server to get the Enchanter Epic: Staff of the Serpent.
Being in the first raid to successfully wake the Sleeper.
In EQ 2
Being the first guild to successfully raid a lot of different mobs, but then MMO raids become too much of a 'job'. So I went to simpler MMO's (no more raiding)
