I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
what he said
This video actually made me like this project more. While i'm not a backer or a level designer - I would gladly donate money to this. Not sure where all of your rage is fueled from, but a game with virtues sounds good to me. For 6 months - amazing.
Sounds like someone is still made about Tabula Rasa, and I don't blame you. No thanks.
I just hope housing isn't the main focus of the game. I've never really been assed about housing in video games and really will be sad if SotA just turns into "Real Estate Simulator 2013"
How nice of him to spend half the video showcasing a feature which many people aren't ever going to be able to fucking access because they can't pay Dick $150+ real cash for it. Really, it's not a slap in the face to long-time supporters of his projects AT ALL.
Go screw yourself Dick. And give me my $$ back so I can go give it to somebody who actually cares about their supporters, or at least has the decency to make a good show of it at any rate.
I think Garriott just does these videos so he can replay them and hear himself talk.
Everyone should stop a second and think how Garriott has really let them down over the years and realize that he is a good hearted game developer that has had some bad luck with publishers. He doesn't really deserve all the grief he gets as he has offered many good ideas that many people have enjoyed over the years.
That being said, Two Worlds looks like it is coming along nicely, keep up the great work.
"There are at least two kinds of games.
One could be called finite, the other infinite.
A finite game is played for the purpose of winning,
an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."
Finite and Infinite Games, James Carse
Are you friggin serious? NCSoft was all over him, looking up to him when they hired him to develop Tabula Rasa!
They were throwing a brandnew studio full of Developers at him.
They were throwing millions of dollars at him.
He was even allowed to make his Brother CEO of this New dedicated studio.
Bad Luck With Publishers? He doesn't deserve all the grief? It was more the other way around! NCSoft had bad Luck With an over inflated ego tripper like Garriott who scammed them of millions of dollars on a game he hardly put enough effort in.
During those years he was more interested in throwing fancy parties at his mansion and trying to get his ass into Space!
And now he is trying to pull the same crap, but this time over the backs of his fans, who seem still blindly devoted to him.
Those prices in the kickstarter and what he is trying to do now. It's just sad those People can't see what is going on. /shrug
We want to make a game just like you remember! Just like the old days! A REAL RPG!
... but then add tons of DLC!
So nothing like we remember. Gone are the days where you have to actually earn a decent house.
A note on my thoughts as I watched......
As I watched this video, I couldn't help but think several times throughout that I want to be a part of this. All of the crafting, styles, the interactions, even the music you had playing (not sure if it is part of Shroud or not) created what I felt like was a very relaxing environment. Some of the plots of land will no doubt be unattainable by me, but it should be interesting to see what becomes of it all. The player created scenes at the end are excellent testimony to what players are capable of.
This turns gaming into a form of artwork for the players as well. I would imagine building a house, a keep, a village, a development and having a sense of pride while doing it and after. I am a former stone mason myself and I feel like I have a great appreciation for stonework and a natural eye for quality and instinctively examine stonework in my everyday life. I am drawn to the simple life and Shroud looks like a great place for an enhanced experience into the simple life where people once worked peacefully.
Thanks mmorpg and Lord British for the video and thank you to the players that contributed content / artwork - great job!!!
My first thoughts after watching this video:
"Looks like a nice game. I wonder if it's going to make enough money for Lord British to fly into moon again."
Sorry, after Tabula Rasa this guy lost all his credibility in my eyes.
Wow, a little butt hurt are we?
A lot of anger I sense in this one.
Combat looks kind of hokie but other then that not bad. Might invest a few dollars.
And after a little research, housing does cost real money now but after launch lots can be earned with in-game currency. Houses are "nice to have" not "required" for anything.
Thats why I'm so damn glad I didnt back this game. I came so close. Everything now is cash shop cash shop cash shop. It wont be any different than that after launch. FU RG

"Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone."
All your dreams of building your own house brick by brick in Garriotts game world (as you a former mason) can be yours for the low low price of 150 to 500 dollars.
You know just like the gaming old school days...............
