Is there still a place for the zerg/army type of pvper?

FyendiarFyendiar Member UncommonPosts: 250

I may be a complete and utter newb regarding pvp, but for me the end of warhammer online was and is important. For me the game came at a wrong moment, a time when I was tired of any social interaction in mmo's  even though I longed for it. I loved the "I am one of the army"-kind of feeling instead of being the hero.

With WAR dead, is there anything left? I mean I am perhaps the minority bit of the pvp community that does not feel competitive. I am not looking to be the hero, when I pvp I just want to be the average Joe who knows that I am not there to save the army, but to just be one of the guys (or galls if the game makes the females and their armor look good) that might just give the edge to our win. The fights for me need to be big enough that it does not become a question of ability, but endurance or luck.

I know that many will most likely point me towards EvE Online and they may be correct in a general sense, they would be wrong in regards to my wishes. I love fantasy and althought I like Sci-fi  in movies I am not a fan of it in games.

So are there any non-pvp- forced mmo's left that include mass vs mass pvp? (with decent to perfect graphics)

The WvWvW in GW2 is the epitome of zerg mass combat.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

I have not gone to higher lvl in GW2, so I have no idea, but is the pvp at higher lvl....does it give the feeling you are one of many trying to conquer or protect a place?

You can actually go out and join the zerg at level 1 or something like that, if you have the game, go give it a shot.

Hmm, you saying it too makes me rethink playing gw2. I bought the game, but tbh only gave myself the time to experience pre-game (in other words 1-20 or so)

I am talking about the feeling of conquering and protecting places though, not just the community quest idea.

edit: playing FFXIV atm and fate farming is not really the same s pvp in WAR. :)

Oh I know, I'm playing on a DAOC freeshard set to 2003 code base, and though it wouldn't meet your graphic requirements it truly is great fun attacking/defending keeps and Darkness falls again.

Should I buy GW2? I left SWTOR about 4 weeks ago and haven't looked back since. It's just that a lot of SWTOR players who left for GW2 came back in a bit after a month, so I'm worried that it's actually a bad game. If anyone can recommend buying GW2, I'll definitely look into it and try it out. I need my new MMO fix after the TORtanic.

I belive you can get in WvWvW from level one.

However, what's the point in having big battles if skill lag doesn't allow you to play with other abilities than the basic first ability.

I severely doubt you are the minority. In fact, you are most likely a majority.

After all, it takes more than a minority to form a zerg.

  • That a zerg coming this way?

Yeah, but don't worry. It's a minor zerg.

Not a mmorpg but yep, what he said.

The zergs do have some strat in ps2 too.

Dark Age of Camelot is one I know of that is primarily zergs roaming.  Some do stealth groups and such in Labyrinth but mostly I think it is zerg.

I've been tempted to go back myself.  Since WAR died I've had people tell me they seem to be paying more attention to DAoC.

Also maybe seeing the popularity of Camelot Unchained has made them realize what potential is being wasted by just leaving the game on life support.

Played: DAoC, AC2, WoW, CoH, GW, GW2, WAR, AoC, Champions Online, Rift, Dragon Nest, Vindictus, Warframe, Neverwinter, Dungeon Fighter Online

Currently Playing: Dungeon Fighter Online Global

    Waiting for: None

I know this isnt an MMO but Mount and Blade warband pretty much gives you the same feeling. I am playing on a server that only does siege, which is a team trying to take over a castle, and another team defending it. The server holds 100 people so it's one big zerg!
  • goldtoofgoldtoof Member Posts: 337
Well yeah m&b and chivalry are fun. But they aren't never ending warfare, its match based play. If the op wanted match play he could play wow or whatever.

Planetside 2, although i'd say theres far too many NC's in there doing the 'zerg' thing already... image

If you try ps2, try a European server. We seem to have more balanced servers and way way less cheating and they are active 24/7. My own guild now has a whole platoon of people from usa, Caribbean & Canada that play.

I bet dollars to donuts that the European servers are just as bad as the States'.

    No

Last week I spotted 2 guys.

1 a low level using a wall hack (just like you can use in wow or gw2 or whatever)
2 a guy in the 20s who had a very low death score, both me and a friend unloaded a full clip in him and he didn't die, so that was suspicious.

Thing is once you've played a while, if you get caught hacking that's a bloody great time investment you've thrown away if you get a ban.

Oh about 3 weeks back we had this team killer running people over in a tank. He got banned within an hour.

GW2 is nothing but a zerg, in both offense and defense.  Its really lame, 0 skill involved, unless you are the leader, so yah there is that
