MechWarrior online is obviously sci-fi not fantasy- but it provides a group style pvp experience I haven't had in a mmo in a long time. Unless the teams are terribly unbalanced its actually very hard to be a standout "hero" because of the pace of combat and the importance of group tactics and mech loadouts. If you 100% set on swords and sorcery over technology it won't be for you, but it doesn't have the same "hard" scifi vibe that Eve does.
The fights are only 12 vs 12 which doesn't sound like a lot from a MMO players perspective, but the pace of fights is slower- it takes more to kill you than it does in most games. It can provide a pretty rewarding experience for your type of player once you get past the initial learning curve.

If you haven't already, back me up in this thread.
Guild Wars 2 is that a way.....
Linage II as well I would say.
You forgot to mention terribly shallow and crappy zerg combat.
