If anything, the crafting changes were ripped from SWTOR, not GW2.
As a matter of fact, there are more things ripped from SWTOR in this xpac than any other 1 game (new zone dedicated to pvp only, a la ilium....being able to gain companions who will live at your base.....having said companions gather resources for you, having said companions craft for you etc).
This is hilarious because SWTOR is clone of WoW. It's WoW with a Star Wars skin over it. Also this post is funny in that it suggests SWTOR was the first game to have PvP zones.
This post is funny because you are trying to detract everyones attention away from the fact that they are completely copying Ilium, by saying that I implied SWTOR invented "PVP Zones". And also, how does SWTOR being a WoW clone in any way detract from the fact that WoW is copying companions, and companion functions, directly from SWTOR?
I think someone is upset that SWTOR has more things getting copied than other MMOs...
Are you joking? I don't even like or play WoW but am rational enough to know that WoW is not copying Ilium. They have copied other things from MMOs and that's what they do. They copy features and usually add more polish to them. Also you are implying that SWTOR invented PvP zones because Ilium from SWTOR is not the first ever PvP zone in all of MMORPG history, yet you're implying that WoW is copying SWTOR by adding a PvP zone in the expansion...
So, we disagree on the fact that they are copying ilium.
Now, can you tell me which MMO WoW is copying then with the companions and all the different functions these companions will have?
Companions have been around for years in MMOs. These "functions" you talk about actually existed before SWTOR. I play games from Asian countries and some of the games the companions can craft for you, watch your in-game house for you, watch your shop for you while you go out adventure or whatever it is you want to do, and even make potions for you (in Mabinogi snakes can make poison potions for you which you can use on your weapon, and in turn has a high chance to poison mobs you attack with that weapon).
The companions are not a new thing at all and are certainly not copying SWTOR. In fact I see this as more Asian MMO mechanics finally going into some Western MMOs.
People have still yet to tell me the name of an MMO that has companions who act and have all the same functions as in SWTOR, and by proxy, what WoW will impliment. Im not tlaking "well X game has companions....and X game one companion can make one thing for you...and X game one companion can run a questo for you".
Copy pasting "no, its been around longer in asaia", without actually giving me an MMO that has the same system, doesnt't add to the discussion sadly.
This is oddly akin to the discussion this site had a while ago while debating if WoW invented the dungon finder. There were many posters clamining "X MMO did a variation of it first" etc, then in they end, once all examples got proven to be not what WoW implemented, or proven to have implemented it after WoW, everyone pretty much accepted that wow invented the automatic dungon finder, but then turned the discussion into how the dungon finder was bad.
I can see this going the same way...after a few back and fourths, we will all agree SWTOR was the first to do companions in the manner it did...and we will then tlak about how having companions that run quests and craft for you adds nothing to the game..
I don't need to list a name of games. It's a freaking known fact! SWTOR didn't revolutionize companies. They took a bunch of features from several MMOs that had different companion mechanics and put them all together.
But here's a list of MMOs for you anyways that had companions that did what I said:
Mabinogi
Kitsu Saga (now shut down)
Guild Wars
Rappelz
Eudemons
And that's just off my head. Claiming that SWTOR revolutionized the companion system is laughable. They did a good job, but they didn't invent anything that hasn't been done before.

Imo, it's nothing more than recolored toons that are otherwise identical. ** In 2013, Bliz announced they plan to upgrade 2004 graphics with 2005-esque graphics! This procedure may take place gradually through 2014-2015. This multi-million dollar corporation must be so proud.

Um... yes they do. What the heck are you talking about? What is it that companions do in SWTOR that they don't do in those MMOs I listed? Because I can't think of anything. You can talk to your companions in some of those MMOs, they craft for you, fetch crap for you, watch your shops and housesit for you, some double as land or flying mounts and provide AOE effects when summoned even.
Some have quests for you too if that's what you're thinking of. So please tell me what feature SWTOR's companions have that the games I listed don't? Do they crap gold or something? Because if they do Mabinogi has a companion that explodes and sends gold flying everywhere

Finally! I've been waiting for this for a few years now. Character graphics finally getting some love!
I've been waiting for an actual return to the WC3 storyline, namely taking down the Burning Legion.
I'm not really keen on the focus Blizzard has taken since WOTLK.
1) Cataclysm just took a dragon from old lore as an excuse to remodel the entire world to look better.
2) Pandas - They though panda's would be popular and made an entire continent focused on them. At least CAtaclysm didn't focus the expansion or Worgen.
3) WoD - Juries still out, but it sure seems like they want to retcon Outland for some reason. Maybe they think this is the way to attract lore junkies. It's telling that the focus is on Garrisons and new models, not teh actual story.

Every single SWTOR companion does every single one of those things (except become a mount...ya...), not some do X, some do Y, some can do Z. They interact with you, you have influence over them to make them either like you hate you, which affects their effecinecy and crafting abilities for you. They like you more? BAM, 3 stims for the mat cost of 1 They fight with you, can fill crucial roles in group content like tanking, healing, DPSing. You gear them up like your own toon, do all of your crafting, level your professions....the list goes on and on....and again, all in 1 game, and every companion has all of these functions.
Not one single game you mentioned has companions that do all of those things. You are simply naming MMOs where combined have one or two companions in each game that have of some of these function. When you have to add up 6 different games in order to equal not even 60% of the things all SWTOR companions do, we are in bad shape.
And you can also send them to sell all of your trash items in your inventory, thus giving you money....not to mention sending them on "slicing runs", returning with briefcases full of money ...hows that for crapping out cash
You honestly really should research this further before commenting on it again.

I'm gonna chime in here.
You simply cannot tell me that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that WoW's system will be any more than similar to SWToR. To act as if you already have access to how it will play out in game is ludicrous, in that, at this stage it is certainly not a done deal.
Come back at beta and cry foul.
Second, why should he go do research? To prove your 'speculation' wrong? I think the burden of proof is upon the one stating he knows how a future feature, with which we have few details, is going to be implemented in such detail that he claims it is an out-and-out copy.
Give me a break. Research - please.
And lastly - learn how to delete. No one wants your wall of text.

My last post was a response to someone else asking what made SWTOR so special in comparison to the asian MMOs he listed, not a list of what I think WoW is implementing. We quite bluntly arn't even tlaking about WoW anymore, so your post is just plain arrogantly wrong.....if he wants to continue saying SWTOR hasn't done anything his Asian MMO hes listing haven't done, then yes, he needs to go do some research before commenting further. Its also cute that you dislike the wall of text in my replies, but thinks his are just fine

Thank you very much for your valued input.
Well look who's calling the kettle black.
I apologize, through your wall of text which you kept repeatedly quoting - I didn't realize how off topic you had taken the thread.

I already stated this previously... Did you not read? As I said, SWTOR took ideas from all kinds of MMOs with companions and combined those features so SWTOR's companions had them all.
That doesn't mean they invented those features. They just squished them all together. The way you and others talk you make it out to seem like they invented these features which is just simply not true.
So saying WoW is copying them because they are making companions with a bunch of already invented features that were around before SWTOR is laughable.

No, because the "new" characters look bad and old already. Just like the game looked bad and old on release.
Game got released 2004 with 1995 graphics -characters get updated 2013 with 2004 graphics. Always a decade behind, cant get right what they cant copy from another game.
Mythic is a new difficulty harder than heroic with a 20 player fixed size.
Holy hell...WoW's heoric raid fights are already some of the mechaniclly hardest fights ever in any MMO.....this is going to be crazy...
that's not correct, the mythic difficulty will be as hard as heroic, heroic will be be as difficult as normal, normal will be the same as flex, and flex will be removed

Not one single game you mentioned implemented companions in the same manner as SWTOR. I will consider this discussion over, please see my previous comment.

I promise not to be so arrogant in the future.
Yup, I alone, in the wall of texts that only I kept quoting, took this thread off topic.....thank you again for your valued input.
And for yours.
