Turrets!

BlueProteusBlueProteus Member UncommonPosts: 85

So I realized I'm a big fan of games that allow turret deployment, and was wondering what might be out there that allows that type of gameplay that I might not be aware of.

Some I've played:

Warhammer had the engineer class that could drop multiple turret types, that was fun, but the game has its share of problems.

Guild Wars 2 also has the turret deployment with multiple types. I enjoyed that, but I don't like the crafting in GW2, so wasn't able to stick with it.

Global Agenda had a nice turret system, but it doesn't really seem to be a real MMO, more like an MMO at first and then a team FPS.

Anybody got any others?

Playing: Various Stuff
Played: AC, AoC, ArcheAge, BDO, CoX, EQ2, Eve, GW, LotRO, Ryzom, SWG, SWtOR, Vanguard, WoW, Etc.

Your comment about not liking Guild Wars 2 because you didn't like the crafting didn't make much sense.  You don't have to craft in that game to obtain anything.  Also, the crafting system is just like every other crafting system, with the exception of discovery.  Instead of going to a vendor to unlock new recipes, you "discover" them on your own, or with the assistance of a wiki.

I can't think of any more games with turrets like you mention.  You might want to give GW2 another chance.

My problem with the crafting in GW2 is not because I can or can't obtain things, it's because I'm one of those rare people who actually enjoys the crafting (and selling) process in MMO's and in GW2 it's serviceable, but not that great compared to some other games I've spent a lot of time crafting in.

That being said, I haven't given up on it. I'm still playing an engineer there. It's hard to argue with free!

Crafting in GW2 is a mini-game to the game itself. The only difficult part of it is gathering the resources. The crafting itself is literally easy-mode button mashing. The fact I can max a crafting profession in 2hrs is rediculous if I have enough resources.

There's no difficulty, depth, or wonder to it. It's fairly bland and uninspired.

    Even DAOC's crafting was better.

While it's not a 'true' MMORPG, Marvel Heroes has the character Rocket Raccoon, who has access to several types of turrets as he levels up. Furthermore, I believe he's one of the free starter heroes available, so checking it out will only cost you a bit of time.

Of course, if you don't like Diablo-style ARPGs then don't bother.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

Firefall all the way, if you love turrets that game is going to be a godsend to you as there is an entire class based on it. Free to download, free to play, now go have some fun with turrets.

That's funny, I had just added Firefall to my list of games to check out.

    Will do, thanks.

Also there is a game similar to the one suggested above "Marvel Heroes" that was originally developed by Bill Roper, the creator of Diablo/2 that was sold off to HANBITSOFT after Flagship studios went bankrupt, it is actually pretty interesting and worth a look as it has a hybrid type turret character, The Gadgeteer.
