EQ1 was my favorite game of all time. I loved EQ2 and WoW as well. Every game since has been the exact same formula with a different skin.

Convince me that this game is going to be different. What are the main points that are making it different than any other generic MMO out there? What has you sold?

    Thanks in advance

You dont need to be convinced by anyone. Just wait for release and try it out then you will find if you like it or not.

    Ok...

    1.  Mobs use a new AI that will make them adapt to their surroundings (not something they are developing they say they have made it)

Believe it when I see it, that sounds like a bunch of Bolognese.

    2.  Desctructible world made of voxels that you can destroy with skills (you can even go underground like this)

The majority do not care the environment is destructible when it will respawn moment's later

    3.  Guild Wars 2 style combat but with multiclassing (40 confirmed)

GW2 combat is the most boring combat I have ever played

    4.  Parkour-style movement

Can't wait to see everyone running around doing acrobatics everywhere

    5.  It's freakin' Everquest.  What more do you need?

It will not feel even remotely like everquest.  The land will have some similar names but won't even resemble what you remember.

Every counterpoint (shown in red)  to these facts are opinionated and have a strong bias. If you just don't like it, that's fine. Using opinions to argue facts is an exercise in futility.

They are not just opinions, they are in fact reality....

It has already been shown. They are using the StoryBricks behaviours to create different profiles on each mob type/specific mob. A lot of them will have specific personalities to them that is very easy to implement with the StoryBricks tools. Of course if you actually did some research instead of throwing around baseless arguments and overly opinionated bias you wouldn't be so blind to things such as this.

    2.  Desctructible world made of voxels that you can destroy with skills (you can even go underground like this)

Really? Because at SOE Live the crowd went insane when they showed the multilayer world and content. Sorry you aren't the voice of the people that you think you are.

    3.  Guild Wars 2 style combat but with multiclassing (40 confirmed)

GW2 combat is the most boring combat I have ever played

The only thing we know is it is aim based and mouse locked. I have a feeling it will be more TERA than GW2 since it showed a more paced combat than a spam fest.

    4.  Parkour-style movement

Can't wait to see everyone running around doing acrobatics everywhere

Yep gonna be fun, glad you agree.

    5.  It's freakin' Everquest.  What more do you need?

I think Landmark and EQN will be the first titles to really prove they are not part of the "generic" model. This has a lot to do with the OP because if what SoE lined out they make happen it won't matter if someone tries it at launch or a year later, the game will still be as relevent.

Something tells me EQ Next is going to be the Fable of MMOs; all hype and huge promises that somehow end up being either laughably minor features, or altogether absent from the final product.

No one would like to be excited for an MMORPG more than I would, but I've caught this scent before-- it's called marketing. And SOE doesn't exactly have a sterling reputation.

Since the start of this millenium I have yet to see an MMO that couldn't be labeled "generic" and I am not sure I ever will.

    grumpy dwarf is grumpy?

But honestly. If you don't like, don't play it. If you like it , play it.

i played Fable for the Story, the world, the action. not the farting.

But that's the only thing people like you see. Grumpy sarcastic pessimistic nitpickers

I think EQN will be far from "generic" but it certainly isn't all original. The originality comes from throwing great ideas from many sources into one game. WoW was fairly unoriginal, but it took elements from EQ and other mmos, polished them, made them accessible to a large audience, and raked in the cash.

    Enhanced AI

Multi-Classing and some degree of choice with consequence

Random encounters/dungeons in a layered world

    No End-Game

F2P, not everyone's favorite, but I like having the option to sub if I'm invested or switch to F2P if life is demanding my time without having to shut myself out entirely or throw money away.

No quest hub, ! or general hand holding that points out every single detail as if we are idiots

New take on EQ (really like the ebooks and lore so far)

Action Combat that requires everyone to be engaged

Limited skill bar that allows focus on battle and not UI

    Housing

Crafting (assuming it will be great with SWG/EQ2 elements)

Dynamic world (we'll see how much it really is, but hopefully at least AI/Mobs are more that other games)

    Ok...

    1.  Mobs use a new AI that will make them adapt to their surroundings (not something they are developing they say they have made it) All i heard was varying spawn rates, that is not making the game better, just able to handle more spam/speed killing when needed. This is also not creatures adapting,it is merely computer code that changes the spawn times.

There has been rumblings that a lot would like to see Nocturnal creatures that are much harder to fight at night but who knows if SOE is willing to do anything the players want.

At the E3 "unveiling" John gave the example of dynamic mobs with "if there is a troll camp and you keep attacking it they'll move to a different area"

it was much more of an elaborate example...but you can look it up.. either way they have stated that this new "AI" will respond to enviroments.

    2.  Desctructible world made of voxels that you can destroy with skills (you can even go underground like this)

They have worded it nicely but how destructible is it,it might just mean you can dismantle one block at a time and build it back up ,one block at a time.

Again...have you seen nothing on this game? they gave a video demo of it (again at E3) showing a sword dude breaking a bridge with his skills, and John AGAIN gave the example of how you could dig down and/or break through a small chasm and go to the "underworld"

    3.  Guild Wars 2 style combat but with multiclassing (40 confirmed)

This is new for them to come out of their ALTAHOLIC shell but definitely nothing new to gaming.

I would agree with this... but still its not the standard "cookie cutter mmo" that we've seen so far (See WoW, Rift, SWToR etc...)

    4.  Parkour-style movement  This is a small nice touch but all automated,i get the feeling they might have been too lazy to test it from various distances ansd give the players the input keys  so decided to automate it.Even Emotes that games have you are allowed to trigger them, this automated design ruins the immersion of it.

This is purely based on your opinion without any fact at all to back it up.. either way I know it won't be a big feature, but its different from normal MMO's (which is what the OP was asking about)

    5.  It's freakin' Everquest.  What more do you need?

I have really like the Everquest series, but it is really stale, they need some new angles and creativity. They could have licensed Physx and do their own work in many areas from physics to nicer models ,more animations in players. They could have even done their own destructible but chose to license someone else's hard work and it really imo is rather dated,it is better than Minecraft but still looks 15 years old.

Again you mention that they need "change"...even though this new EQ is going to be 100.10% different from the original EQ,

And as far as the "nicer models"...you may not like the ART STYLE...but the models look really good and are really clean.. show me 1 MMO that has better models? (besides maybe black desert)

This is of course all in my opinion.. but from what you have posted, it would apear to me that you just want to hate on the game.. and know very little of it.

If you loved EQ1 avoid this title at all costs! This game has NOTHING whatsoever to do with EQ1 beyond the fact that it's titled EverQuest Next. I could stick a label on a dog turd that says EverQuest 3, that don't make it playable as an MMO.

Convince you? I've not managed to convince myself at this point... ^^  What I've seen looks promising, but at this stage separating the hype from any real advances isn't really possible.  Once we have more real data and some hands on experience, that will no doubt change.  Until that point, do your own research and take whats said with several grains of salt.

So ONLY games very similar to EQ1 are enjoyable to those who loved EQ1 and you have insider info and/or direct access to the development of EQN. Also, EQN may or may not be equal in quality to erroneously-labeled dog poop.

    Makes sense! ;)

I hate to mention landmark but I would think EQNEXT will include many of the landmark aspects. It would be silly if they didn't include some kind of open world housing and land. They already have all the features built into landmark.

And I don't know where all this voxel licensing is coming from lol.

EQN is being designed for consoles.

The PS4 has about 1/10 of the power of modern gaming PCs.

Imagine your favorite sandbox MMO. I will imagine SWG, personally. Now imagine what they would have to do to it in order to put it on a console. Not just scaling down the visual quality and the amount of text on screen, but how would they have to change the user interface because consoles do not have a mouse or keyboard.

Have the image in your head? That is about as good as EQN is going to get.

PS: I really want EQN to be amazing, but Sony is ruining SOE by sticking their hands into it and forcing console MMOs.

There is no way to convince you since there is no game yet.

Anything about the game is guesses, wishfull thinking, promises and vision talk.

If I had to choose one thing about EQN that is not generic is the world. Procedurally generated seed from a music algorithm so it should seem pretty natural. Because it's generated that way it can be made bigger by hardware. It's also up to three layers deep of space so you can dig down to another level with content that's supposed to shift after a time.

You can have 40 classes to collect, swap abilities and play, offer AI that has mobs/NPCs react to conditions and "naturally" adapt and talk to peoples avatars with your facial expressions but it starts with the world IMO.

Lol.  1/10 the power of a machine with the latest processor running dual Titans, sure.  Not a relevant thing to mention in discussion of MMOs, which have always been designed to run even on crappy PCs, which PS4 can easily compete with.  Nothing in the console hardware prevents the use of a mouse and keyboard, and whether the software allows for it is up to the particular developer.

Not that I will play any title available on PC on a console, just saying that parts of your argument have no foundation in reality.

Plus since the world is made of voxels, each voxel having a material type, it makes gathering and (hopefully) crafting seem more natural IMO.

You know as well as I do that when these games end up on consoles they end up being functional using only controllers for input. I suppose this shouldn't matter at all for players that don't ever chat anyway.
