How to chat with other players?

In ScarletBlade I am trying to chat with other players, but this does not seem to work. Am I too stupid, or do I need a higher level, more points, buy something, a magic spell...? I am quite at the start of the game. Maybe I cannot talk during this stage?

Maybe it was a feature they didn't feel was necessary.
( I never got past the first minute or so of the game so I can't really help )
