Castlevania lords of shadow. Anyone played this on PC ?

DamonVileDamonVile Member UncommonPosts: 4,818

I heard of the first one but have never seen this. I saw gamefly has it for cheap and the preview looks pretty awesome. Did anyone try it on PC ? I have an xbox controller and assume it's a port so I'll want to use that but is the gameplay any good or did they just show all the good parts to the game in the ad ?

I don't play a lot of console games but I assume this is going to be a bit like god of war III ? I really enjoyed that, and like interactive movies etc.

It's a fun game that can be played with mouse and keyboard for 95% of the game but there are a couple of parts where using those make the task at hand ridiculously hard(not gonna spoil anything with specifics) and so yes a controller is preferable.

It's not quite God of War good but similar and the story is good.

Castlevania is a hit & miss franchise.  Some are great, some stink. :D  Just being honest.

Play Castlevania IV on the SNES, it hit every single note to what gamers expect for a platformer.  Castlevania I (one) is a good introduction for retro gamers.

I have not seen a great Castlevania game since IV, unfortunately.

I have not played every game (all the odd systems like Dreamcast, handhelds), but I ventured to the current games at the time in this topic (90's, 2000's), and they mostly don't deliver, except Castlevania 4.  N64 did a Castlevania game, what a disgrace.  Ugh.

    TLDR:

Bottom line:  If you are buying this game, it is hit or miss.  Not what you wanted to hear, but with gaming nowadays (with a huge IP cost to devs/publishers), it's not likely to be good.  Low budget like the rest?

I think the license was sold around, so there is no real guarantee of quality.  Every game is by a new crap-shoot team.

My favorite was Symphony of the Night.

I just saw it on Steam for almost nothing. The reviews seem to be great. I've read some people complaining about the controls. It's a console port of course so I'd play with the controller, as you mentioned.

Ha yeah it's even cheaper on steam. At $10 I can live with " pretty good" :)

    Thx for the replies.

The game looks visually better than the N64, but 2D platformers is what Castlevania was founded on.

I dunno, it looks more annoying to me with the camera angles.

I would have appreciated something more akin to Goemon's Adventures (N64), converted to Castlevania.  Companies keep trying for N64 Super Mario 64 quality, but none do it, when it comes to 3D.. /sigh.

I can't understand why Super Mario 64 is rated the best game for that system (I know why), yet nobody will touch it for future systems?   Why is Mario of the Wii U still  2 1/2 D .. ./ugh!

Not sure how it would play on the PC since it was a console title originally, but I can say the quality of the game is incredible.  One of the best games I've played in years and years really.  The first couple areas are a little meh but especially once you get to the castle it's just epic.  Amazing game, plus it's a reboot of the series so you don't need to know any of the previous story.  Definitely give it a try.

I have this and I have a controller.  Looks so much better than the console version, which I used to own.  Really good game, definitely a worthy Castlevania game.

I tried this game and it just didn't click with me. I played Castlevania back in the day and this game is just severely lacking in the "feels like a Castlevania game" department, hell I would even say the N64 games felt more like a Castlevania game than this.

It never really feels like you are using a whip and the themes and music are so generic and feel directly ripped of from similar games such as God of War or Dante's Inferno.

If it's cheap sure why not or if you don't care about the source material and enjoy games like this go for it, but if you are a purist Castlevania fan it will probably make you a bit upset, I know I am cause it is nowhere near up to snuff to what the series deserves.

    Hmm

I dunno.  Looks like old-world WoW, when 1 person goes against huge bosses.  Reminds me of being lv 80 and killing lv 50 dungeons.

New games don't impress me much, especially when old games are just better than now :P

The new-age game seems a mash-em-up.  Push buttom 100 times = win -->  Big turn off.  That wasn't what made video games originally popular.

I feel like all this button smasher that I'm seeing if like when pep's only had 1 button, and games were Atari.  2600.  Same shit, no thought, just push buttons.  hit sometimes, others, not...

Each post doesn't get any easier either.  Castlevania is a tough franchise to keep defending .. with the direction it's going and everything.

Ah well, I'll make this my last.  let me just say that you can divide a number by itself only enough times before you lose resolution of what you started with.  This is what happened with Castlevania .. also with Mega Man, but that is another story.

[or to the Castlevania IP people .. your games suck now, you need to look back at older releases to know why the IP you own is even popular today]  /// [idiots!]

ps nice direction, but Castlevania is a sensitive subject.  Upset.  Angered.  Thats what some fans are (look at sales, ask youself why the IP sold around so much .. was it because it was making awesome sales?   .. dont .. think .. so ..  Everyone wanted to dump this title like a hot potato)

I've put in a few hours now and it plays fine on the pc but I'm using an xbox controller so that's kind of cheating :P but it's very fun.

The game is a lot like darksiders II/force unleashed and it's like. I've been enjoying it so far. The forest is pretty meh, you were spot on there but things have been getting more exciting as I go along. I guess the forest is really just the tutorial to show you all the moves....that I often forget how to do :)

well worth the $10 it is on steam right now.
