Medical laws in the US are a convoluted mess. Generally short term insurance pays up to a certain point, for a certain number of days, before long term care insurance kicks in. Generally speaking, there can be a 'gap' in coverage of up to 8 weeks. This is the gap that these people are trying to help fill since the bills continue unabated and without insurance coverage. The family is then left holding the bag.

Aye, insurance in American right now is a joke, it's worthless, and a racket now. In 2000 our insurance paid for everything but $25 dollars for the whole time I was pregnant and through the birth of my son. Fast forward to 2013 insurance, we're giving the insurance companies way too much for little to no coverage.

Will definitely donate to help the guy out, it's Christmas and even if it weren't Christmas, you help those in need whenever you can.

I'm as much of a cynic as most who have replied to this thread.  At least I'm not quite as much of an asshat as y'all have shown.

    Be well, Ron Nakada.

I feel sorry for him and I also feel like an asshole for thinking this way, but how can they not come up with 25k within the company (donations from company purse and employees)? Especially if he's really in trouble and can't pay the bills, which I would really find disturbing btw, he's probably in the 20% best paid or so? How does the other 80% deal with this?

I work for an IT company and I can't believe for a second someone would start contacting my clients to donate for me.

That said if I really need it, I'm not sure if I'll refuse the help.

But something tells me Blizzard will do some donations and everyone will appreciate Blizzard for doing this and everyone wins.

TBH, it's probably less on Blizzard than it is the Health Insurance company.

The deal is: you take a metric fuckton of my hard earned money each month, and you cover me in case shit happens. Shit's happening, so why aren't you covering me?

God bless you & yours, Ron. I hope to see your name in the credits of many, many more Blizzard games over the years.

Edit: People are really turning this into a 'bash Blizzard' thread? REALLY? A man could die here, people. This isn't the time, nor the place for your little anti-corporate crusade. Also, we don't know if Blizzard is contributing anything at this point. For all we know, they're taking up an office collection or writing a check as we speak.

This is absolutely correct.  Just simply having a positive attitude has worked miracles when it comes to these types of situations.  Scientists and Medical researchers can't figure out why, but its well documented.  One of my favorite instances was a story from Michael Crichton, back when he was a physician, they had a patient from jamaica who was literally dying, his body was shutting down and they had no freaking clue why.  The guy kept telling them that he had a curse put on him by a shaman, and that there was nothing they could do, that he was basically screwed.

So, when things starting getting real bad, they finally just resorted to whatever they could do, so they went out and bought a bunch of headdresses and clothes as close to what they thought a shaman would look like.  Basically turned the lights down, brought in a bunch of candles and such, and then danced around the guys hospital bed chanting and such.  The guy walked out of there in a few days healthy as a can be.

The only cancer I see here is World of Warcraft.  Okay bad joke.

Yes help him out!  I am also sure Blizzard is helping him.  I know people who have died from cancer, my good friend Jeff and my dad as well.  I wouldn't put that burden on anyone!

So here's to hoping he kicks it in the face!

I have seen many young great minds have new treatments/cures for cancer that within 1 day the article/post/information gets.."missing"

We have been treating cancer the same way for decades, which is radiation and chemo.

Big hospitals just get bigger with more of the same 50 year old treatment.

I once asked  a wise old  man I trust.."what if they release a cure?) he said " what would it do to the economy" (Health care makes up 1/6 of US economy)

I lost my brother and Grandpa to to Cancer. I myself have a place that must be scanned every 6 months.

We MUST Find/Release a CURE for this disease for all people

I agree with what you say about the use of chemo and radiation being the only real treatment we have. and its really sad because there wont ever be a cure for cancer.

Cancer alone makes over 500 billion dollars a year in " treating people ". think about it if there was a cure thats alot of money missing.

I watched my father die to stage 4 and i got to see first hand how expensive it is. its really a bad joke how much they rape you for treatments that really dont even work.

i heard a saying long ago and it has stuck with me.

" The US is the most expensive place to die "

I know personally what he is going through, my husband is in the last stages of Stage IV Bile Duct Cancer, we have three children (one in college and two in high school), so the financial worries are there when he is gone. But, I am also very fortunate to have loved ones and co-workers who have helped in little ways to get my family through this horrible ordeal. I hope Blizzard does help him out with this, but as my boss said in a beautiful letter this year (she donated to the American Cancer Society in my company's name)

" In the busyness of the season, stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and remember what is truly important."

My God, seriously? Now you people are turning it into some half-witted tirade against the American health care system?

Absolutely disgusting how many of you people are using the story of this man's illness & misfortune for your own ridiculous, baseless claims, agendas, conspiracy theories, and political ideals. Shame on you, and shame on this site for allowing it.

Of course i do hope he makes it, but there are a lot of people who seem to be really narrowminded (looking at you solar prophet) because i dont see why not to flame on the american health care, a man is dying, so its not doing a good enough job then! And a man is dying? A baby dies every minute, and they havent even gotten a chance at life! I live in a country where if i fell ill with cancer, the system would take care of me, but here a lot of it is taxes almost more then half of what i earn! But people in america (not all and sorry if i offend anyone) are very greedy and refuge to pay lots in taxes, every man for himself, the american dream, whatever you may call it, but the point is that a minority is really really rich, and another is really poor and cant pay the bills for healthcare etc, and the rich dont want to pay more then the poor etc. So the system is really cruel build, and when obama tried to change that, he sure got beaten back to his seat by the ri- yeah, you get the point. The government is also corrupt, you can make people in the republikan house mean certain things if you can buy a school in their hometown, so that they can get reelected. Wow im far off now, soory, but the point is that there are a lot of people fighting with cancer, so why only choose to help this one? And if he means so much then blizzard should be able to pay All of the needed payment, sorry, but i cant see why not. This is a man whos dying, im sure the other employees would understand and no its not gonna make the others go "i would also like a new car" this is a man dying, im sure they want to help him out. Unless they are just as corrupt as the system. I still pray to his family, and wish him a speedy recovery, but i do the same to all the other people hit by cancer, starving, freezing to death or in some terrible situation. And most people who reads this will also just forget about him, just like when you are sitting eating dinner and watching tv and you see people starving, you think how horrible, and then goes back to eating your dinner. But that said, speedy recovery and my hopes and thought heading your way.

Jesus Christ really feel for the guy, but honestly shouldn't blizzard pay-up for once in awhile, think they got the cash after 7-9 whatever years as being on top of the mmo chart.

I hope it all works out for the guy really do.

Ah, poor bastard.. Stage IV, there is no coming back from that. I wonder if WoW will have an in game memorial for this guy.. considering the LAST thing they will do is pay his medical bills.

Prayers for you and your family.

  • XiaokiXiaoki Member EpicPosts: 4,036

Hopefully he can make some recovery and that there are some people out there that will lend a hand instead of placing the blame at the feet of others.

Just knowing that this was in some way related to WoW I knew people would make this an opportunity to bash Blizzard and WoW.

Its disgusting that this poor guy is dying of cancer and yet some of you can only think of bashing WoW.

Lay aside your hate for just a moment.

And this is why I don't live in the United States.

A country that leaves its citizens to go bankrupt and/or die when getting seriously ill.

How many people do you think, besides this Blizzard developer, are in the exact same situation? Should we all start donation funds for them? Here's a better idea: use tax money to pay for medicare, so we don't have to make thousands of donation funds and hope someone gets enough money to live.

Ah, but then I forgot how many US citizens are so violently opposed to public healthcare.

  • cronius77cronius77 Member UncommonPosts: 1,652
I wish this guy the best and hope he can beat a disease that takes tons of lives that do not deserve it including children.  To some of the posters posting about blizzard paying for everything , she posted this to people here not blizzard who may want to donate to help a guy out in his time of need. The fact that some of you turn this isnt a argument and debate about blizzards ethnics goes to show you how sick in the head some of you really are. Seriously on Christmas day people posting this nonsense about a poor guy facing his mortality is just sickening .
