Hello fellow gamers!!
I have found myself sitting at my computer for hours sometimes looking for something to play. Everything on the market now is either old or empty. I know there are some games coming "soon" that might fill a void but I need some help.
I am looking for a sci fi genre game with;
3D vs 2d or side scrolling
Crafting
Gathering
Exploration
PVE
NOT empty worlds
Vehicles or spacecraft or both
Buildable player Housing
Here is what I have played and I am looking for something OTHER than those listed below;
Eve, Earthrise, SWG, SWTOR, Earth and Beyond, Fallen Earth, Anarchy Online, Neocron2, Entropia Universe, Planetside 1 and 2, Darkspace, RF Online, Rise, Global Agenda, STO, Afterworld, Taikodom, Perpetuum, Xsyon, Tribes Ascend, Firefall, Defiance, Star Legends, DarkOrbit, Mechwarrior online, UFO online,
Any suggestions ??

That's actually a pretty impressive list of games considering what you're asking for. I don't have any 'new' games that match all of your criteria, but i'm having a blast with Rust. It may not hit every category you want, and it is a bit 'hardcore', but you might like it.
That's what I am afraid of...
Where are the companies coming up with their game ideas now days?
Remember Tabula Rasa? I loved that game but it ended way too soon!! Was missing player buildable housing but was an amazing game. Oh and I left out another game, Matrix Online, another great game! Why do the good games die out and all the companies now making wow clones or some other crap fantasy game?
Where are the scifi games?
@OP
I am not sure what you mean by 3D vs. 2D side scrolling. Are you talking about a 2.5D (2D with 3D sprites) Platformer?
yea, not a fan of side scrolling / platform games.
3D as in most current games from my list. First person or 3rd person over the shoulder stuff. Not big on Diablo top down style games.
Is there just nothing out there that fits this??
No hidden little gem of a game that someone knows about?
This is why the MMO industry is where it is... all the new games are wow clone games with little to nothing left in design and imagination and risk!!
Sad day for our hobby friends!! Where is the originality and wide variety??
I'm in the same boat. Bored as you are.
Though sounds like Wildstar is close to what you are wanting. It's not out yet. But may be worth waiting for it. It does seem promising.

I agree... I have been waiting for invite since the day you could sign up, but still missing that ever so hard to obtain key!!
That is really the game I waiting for, but need something other than hacked up COD:Ghost to provide some time killing entertainment.
Hopefully I will get Wildstar key soon!!

Considering the games you've listed. You've pretty much covered all bases. The only other option would be to go outside the criteria you're looking for.

Though. If it's space combat you're after. Have you tried SWTOR's new expansion yet?
But then again. That's PVP. But that's my game plan until Wildstar releases.

Well, I'll suggest it because it's a good game and has "some" of what you want.
Ryzom
3D vs 2d or side scrolling - yes
Crafting - YES
Gathering - YES
Exploration -oh heck YES
PVE - You betcha
NOT empty worlds - sorry this is the first falter. It has a small dedicated playerbase. If you are proactive there is no reason to not to get into a guild but you are going to have to be proactive and a bit extroverted. Still players help each other.
Vehicles or spacecraft or both - not that I know of
Buildable player Housing - not that I know of. There is guild pvp with some sort of "fort". I've never seen one i person.
It's obviously an older game but the art design is good and the setting and "atmoshere" once in the game is excellent. It's f2p up to a certain level for your skills and you can actually "make" or "alter" skills. It's neat.

Ah... sorry I left it off my list, but yes, I have a character in that game currently. Fun game, love the AI, but as you pointed out, missing a few key features. But thank you for the suggestion.
Sounds like The Repopulation is what you looking for but it is one of those "soon" to release games.
Your best bet is to find some SP or MP games that can hold you over. Like FTL or something.
FTL ??
The repopulation is a game that I was following, but since the 2nd attempt at money grabbing and not really much to show for it, and after stating that another private alpha is in March. Don't really see this vaporware game coming to be much of a reality!!
If you are interested in making a MMO maybe visit my page to get a free open source engine.
You need to visit their site to see the "show for it" content. There are tons of videos on the game.
Dear Fellow MMO Gamer,
The doctor is in. (lol). This sensation that you are currently having is not of a lack of the game to play, but the lack of your current desires.
A while back i had the same problem, and now looking at the problem of having 100 games and yet none of them satisfy is a combination of problems.
First, possibly you are burnt out. Go out instead of having a gaming night.
Second, MMO gamers are not Normal Gamers, we are Massive, Thus, you need a guild, friends, or someone to be able to communicate with while playing the game. Find a Guild or Group of friends to play with. It helps trust me.
(Guild Recommendation: http://www.corelegion.com/)
Third, You have been playing so many MMO games that you are wanting to experience something too vast. MMO's cant truly supply this, I reccomend finding a Single player game, or a console game. As they can do some crazy concepts that dont really work with MMO's in the big picture.
Hopfully you will find your way in the world of Gaming Fellow Gamer!!
Side Note: Fuck! Rust is one amazing ass game.
Rust would be fun I think if there were people to play it with... I have a few of the "survival" games as well and to be honest, those games are just full of modders / hackers griefers from the ones that I have played.
I do have friends that I play with for the most part, we jump from game to game as not to get too bored. I have been playing MMO since I alpha tested EQ back in '98. I do agree with we are a different kind of gamer. I too like the single player games and a few games on 360, but I keep coming back hoping to find a game like SWG or EQ or Tabula Rasa or Matrix Online. None of the current games give you that depth, freedom, none of them suck you in for 8 hours when it feels like 30 minutes.
Where are those games ?
Well since you mentioned EQ. Ever Quest being a fantasy game.
You could give Guild Wars 2 a try. It's certainly value for money for the entertainment it brings.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than the one you've become familiar with.
There is nothing wrong with GW2 other than it has already been released.
That being said, the catcow engineer is the closest thing to 'sci-fi' in that game, but it's only barely steamish.
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.
When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.
No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.
How to become a millionaire:
Start with a billion dollars and make an MMO.
Sure. It does have its issues at end game. But still a good game to kill time with.

Will have a look at that then... still wanting some scifi element type game...
*fingers crossed for Wildstar key, have an ESO key if anyone wants to trade keys.
FTL: Faster Than Light
Its a 2d roguelike space SP game.
Getting more funding so they can pay their employees is hardly a money grab. Do you know how much it takes to build an MMO? I'm surprised they got as far as they did with less than 100k. Shame to write off a game that does what it must to survive.
I think your game hopping is part of the reason why you can't find a game to break you boredom with. When I get that burnt on gaming in general I work on a different hobby. Coming back to gaming after a while makes them more fresh and fun.
