It's repaste of what I posted there too...
So I had one post there, with screenshots from CO, on which you could see characters looking kinda / almost like other well known characters in other games / movies etc. I was reported and my post was deleted. Characters were called Spider-Mana and Darknight for example.
We are not talking Proper IPs here, but alikes, where Spider-Mana is a character created by a person not trying to make any money on copying proper thing. Same way I can paint even PROPER Spider-Man picture, I can paint him on one picture with Superman and Mickey Mouse, and post it all over the internet, like thousands people do, and there is nothing wrong with that. On Halloween people dressed like Spider-Man are shown in the TV and in Newspapers and its just fine. We can build huge figure of Spider-Man in the minecraft game and it's ok. And fan made costume in CO, that looks similiar to Spider-Man is wrong??? There is a high elf Legoolas or mage Gundalf in every single game we play, yet here it's a problem all of a sudden ?
Can somebody explain that to me before internet trolls will report me for typing Spider-Man in my post?

Because Steam does not want to get sued. It's quite simple I don't see why you don't get it. Changing a couple of letters in the name doesn't mean much.
Some companies protect their IP diligently, Marvel being one of them.
Here is an example: Say I create a watch called "Roll-x" and copy the design of a Rolex watch but change the colors around a bit. Do you think I'll be able to sell that watch without being sued? Exactly.
Stil have your doubts? Try going on national TV with a picture of spiderman you drew, or a CG animation you did on your computer to play on TV. See if they actually air it. 99.9% chance they wont.
So you say they could be sued and Marvel would win ? So how come we have so many even better copies of Marvel heroes in DCUO, so many Legolas and Gandalf copies in all fantasy mmorpgs, so many Fan-art pictures everywhere which are exact copies of proper thing, yet nobody complains...
EDIT :
I even owned a pair of socks with brand ABIDAS on them, runners with ABIBAS brand on them, first bought in germany, others in Czech republic. In Ireland I bought a ROLLEXE watch on the main street during last summer, and I payed 5 euro
Don't know if we can compare that to fan made costume...
EDIT 2 :
There was no spider on the costume, just some tribal like tatoo symbol. Eyes were made from big glasses, etc etc.
And things like this are all over youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kagNzHNluuA
Oh well...
Yet, they'll have laptops with the brand names of the computers on them, that freely would get aired...for a price I'm sure.
This whole IP stuff can get pretty crazy.
