"The game I play is incredible."
"Why the game I do not play sucks."
"Why is the game I play number one in the world."
"What game is the best out there, vote! (1. my game, 2. game I play, 3. game I like)"
"So, we all know game I play is the best, what next..."
"We all know there are no good games out there, because I don't play any..."
Why does every topic need to be so provoking? It's like reading a cheap newspaper that does everything to draw attention. I understand that egocentrism dominates current culture, but can't there be a hint of objectivity, at least in the title?
It takes 5 minutes on this forum to realise, that there is no definite winner and everyone has their own preferences. Every game has flaws, every game has it's fans etc. When someone writes "why this game is the best" it is like coming into a bar full of angry, drunk truck drivers and yelling "who wants a piece of me"...
Shouldn't this stuff be moderated? It just makes this forums a very hostile environment. It already gives a negative start of the discussion and should be treated like a provocation. Punishable maybe?
It feels so childish. Like kids fighting over who's legos are better...
"My attempt on explaining pros of this game" vs "Why this game is better than this game"
Am I the only one who sees how despite those two topics doing the same thing, the first one gives at least a chance of a decent discussion, while the other one is just to draw in unnecessary attention not to the topic itself but to the poster that obviously wants to be noticed? Isn't this obvious enough and easily noticable for it to be dealth with?
It's just so wierd, there are lots of smart people here that keep those discussions on a mature level, but people who start those topics make it so hard...
I would like to hear what others think about it. Please focus on my points rather than attacking me directly, I would really like to hear other people opinion about this.

This site isn't the editorial page of The New York Times. It's more like the back pages of the free local social scene news magazine you'll find on a rack at the mom & pop burger shop down the street.
We aren't journalists and editors. We are enthusiasts and fans.
Do you intend to start offering free classes on writing style?
So you need to be professional now to just write reasonably and since you are not a journalist, you can just be assh*le and provoke others?
It is ok, You are just saying it is not a big deal, I accept that opinion. I just think that there is to much stuff written here to make people angry on purpose, and things like that don't happen on every forum.
The OP is the one who makes and enforces the rules of a thread.
See how you put a rule in to focus on your points rather than attack you?
It's your thread, so YOU must keep people on topic and civil. YOU. Ya, YOU.
It's 99% up to the OP on how good or bad the discussion of a topic is.
Moderators aren't our parents we run to for help. They are there to help assist you. You are an adult, you don't need to be moderated.
"If the Damned gave you a roadmap, then you'd know just where to go"
Don't really get that part, the whole point of having moderators is because people need to be moderated... otherwise there would be none. You can't just expect people to read rules and abide.
I understand that there is a general rule that everyone can say cr*p about other people preferences and tastes, if that person is not attacking the other person directly. So with those rules in mind, topics "your game is cr*p" are allowed.... but, aren't those to obvious? I mean, people even named a certain behavior trolling and included it into the rule system... can't the thing I am talking about be also something wrong and controled. It is pretty close to just being a jerk... that is all I am asking.
I mean really "Your game sucks" is just wrong. I may be the one dramatizing, but I just need to sort it out. It is sad to read those topics on the main page, I was hoping I am not the only one that is bothered by this. I like this place....
I already shown few examples that are repeated over and over here, Why my game bla bla, they are constructed in a way that just asks for negative response....
Make topics you want to see. Have discussions you want to have.
Start your own discussion, like you did with this thread. If you really care about the topic, you'll stay involved and show people the type of topics and discussions you are interested in. Lead by example.
Moderators aren't needed if the OP is still engaged.
"If the Damned gave you a roadmap, then you'd know just where to go"
Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.
"At one point technology meant making tech that could get to the moon, now it means making tech that could get you a taxi."
Or just have fun.
If you don't have time to waste, you don't need to be entertained.
When someone writes "why this game is the best" it is like coming into a bar full of angry, drunk truck drivers and yelling "who wants a piece of me"...
No , not even close. By some of the responses , you would think they did BUT they didn't. It's the responder's issue not the person who posted. There are plenty of people who are free with their opinion, you don't have to respond. You are not compelled to join the conversation, and you are certainly not obligated to contradict the person's opinion.
Stating an opinion is not a "hostile" action. I hate seafood! And yes I am a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, and I live near the water and Yes I have tried many varieties of seafood, and I still hate it. Even if you are a fisherman by trade this is NOT a freaking attack on you, stop treating it as such. It's just me stating my opinion on a public forum.
If you feel that a post is too provoking or dramatic , do NOT add to it by posting a rant about how people should keep their opinions on MMORPGs to themselves rather than post them on a public forum dedicated to the discussion of MMORPGs
The forums aren't all bad. Like any "community" it has it's good and bad, and people have good days and bad. You can learn a lot about how people think by what they fight over. I know it's changed how I view mmos....and I don't mean it turned me into a hater like so many here are
Define hater.
Any consumer advocacy is labeled hate in this industry. Angie's list type of thing for this industry would be considered an extortion group like mmoprg.com users are in spite of their industry best accuracy.
"If the Damned gave you a roadmap, then you'd know just where to go"
The simple answer because I can't be bothered to get into it with people who just want to argue is ...someone that never has any intention of playing a game or went in wanting to hate it, then spends their day bitching about how crappy it is or blaming it for everything wrong in the mmo world.
This is nothing new to a Forum; And, one could argue that it is also intrinsic to the nature of a Forum.
Welcome to the internet where shades of grey don't exist for a lot of people. Yes it is childish but having discussions be heavily moderated just creates whole new problems. What if moderator really likes a game I want to criticize. My posts could be removed for "hating/trolling" even if it was legitimate criticism. Someone who is just legitimately enthused for a game or praising it could be called a fanboy and have their posts nuked.
So maybe the problem is you.
Unless you can show how people are gaining financially making negative remarks in forums, you are describing consumer advocacy.
Whether you like the manner it's done in is irrelevant, nor is it what you are saying.
People are haters, they bitch because they can, and you can't be bothered to get into it.
"If the Damned gave you a roadmap, then you'd know just where to go"
This forum doesn't feel hostile to me. I like to hear why people who like different things than me like that kind of stuff. I love to consider the question "What is the ideal MMO?" or "What ought MMOs to be like?" Also, a major topic of the forum is how to choose an MMO to play, and that question inherently requires us to consider which one would be the best as far as a particular player is concerned.
As long as people are disagreeing civilly and intelligently instead of telling me, "Carebears not welcome, you're not harcore enough." then I don't mind knowing that there are people around who will disagree with pretty much any opinion I express about what makes a good MMO.
It would be a lot worse if the forum's focus was all on depressing topics like, "I found three people locally who wanted to make an MMO with me, but when we tried to decide what MMO we couldn't agree at all and gave up." Or, "My kickstarter just failed, thanks for the support guys."
This forum is tame compared the WoW forums and MMO-C.
WoW forums for it's now fanboy rah-rahs (they did a massive permaban to pump the good press); MMO-C for it's feeding freezy and bait/report tactics (even the moderators get into it). -_-

A little controversy here and there doesn't hurt..this place actually is remarkably tame compared to how it could be...does any one remember the myspace forums?
@Kevyne-Shandris, well done sig... inkscape?
I like this forum as it is.
Without the drama is not going to be the same.
Or how it used to be!
Work examples about the sig is on the Spam forum. Have a look.
