Haha yeah and all this talk about Innovation.. look around at mmorpgs, is that innovative? Except for eqnext that is also still just words, there are hardly any innovation, only iteration and simplification. Here is a game we know nothing about, except that their intentions seem to be making an actual mmorpg, and the setting looks to be traditional fantasy.. Oh and look, they will also try to move away from the themepark trend; not doing what everyone else are, so not innovative..
But yes, they need to think about pitching something other than what is expected from a fantasy setting, races, dragons, gods, deep lore, not much new and that is really just fine... There are enough space cartoon themeparks trying to be new, but innovation is not style and setting, innovation is gameplay.
Not to mention, Brad has already stated that crafting will be in the game regardless. Whether it gets funded via Stretch Goal or not. If they meet the stretch goal, then they can focus on it sooner. If not, then they'll have to focus on it at a later time when the funding they acquire does make it feasible.
Uh...did you not read the interview right here on MMORPG.com? He makes it pretty clear that if they don't make it as a stretch goal it will most likely be added as an expansion. Personally I find the need to have an expansion to add crafting hilarious and even more so considering it will probably cost money. "hey can you craft me a health pot?" "Nah sorry can't craft don't have the expansion." lulz.
So.... you're agreeing with me, just with different words.
Cool.
The idea is: When they've gotten the funding necessary to make it happen, they will be adding crafting. When it comes, or how it comes is all logistics. But at the end of the day, it boils down to the same thing. More Development Money = Crafting System.
So you're cool with a major feature like crafting being added through an expansion post launch? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard of.

Yes because GW2 has an awesome crafting system right?
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
So you're cool with a major feature like crafting being added through an expansion post launch? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard of.
Where does it says that crafting will be an expansion feature?
All the features listed in the KS page are going to be live at launch.
If KS cannot fund them, then they will find alternative funding.
Diplomacy is not on the KS list which means that unlike all the listed features, it won't be available on release.
Diplomacy is something that it might come later with an expansion, Brad clearly said that, he didn't say that crafting or housing are not going to be there at launch.
I have a lot of reservations about this project. As a theory, I wanted to strongly support this project. Now that I've seen some of the (non-)specifics, though, I backed at just a minimal level. I'm concerned that they're not focusing on what made EQ1 so very immersive. Instead, they're going with interdependence. On top of that, the first video said (around the 42-minute mark, I think) that crafting isn't there, or really even thought about. Crafting didn't make EQ1 great, but it was one more part of the immersion factor there.
Yeah, I have strong reservations about this project, in spite of a prejudice in favor of it.
p.s. I saw the question about the source of crafting info, and here it is:

I haven't actually seen them state, specifically, that Crafting would be an expansion feature if they don't get the KS funding. I can't say they did or didn't say it - but I haven't seen it from an official source. Only people on forums claiming it was said. Can you provide a link to where they actually state that? I'd like to see it in its proper/original context.
However... if that's the case, and if delaying it means they can put more focus (and money) into building a stronger core game, so they can then put proper focus (and funding) on building an equally strong crafting system when they're ready to start on that... Yes, I'm perfectly cool with that.
The core game is not crafting. It's not mission critical to the kind of game they're looking to release at launch.
They will have limited funding. They will have limited resources. They should focus those things where they can have the most and best impact. The most/best impact is a strong core game, which Brad and Co. have gone over and explained time and time again by now.
So, you can think it's "the dumbest thing you've ever heard". I call it a matter of having a realistic perspective, and not only looking at the project as "I want I want I want", which you seem to be doing. Trying to appease that "I want I want I want" mindset is part of what led to the problems around Vanguard. Beyond things happening around them that were out of their control (change overs at MS, etc), they tried to do more than they realistically could with available time and resources before launch. They overreached, and the result was an unpolished, unfinished and buggy game. See the connection there?
They're making it a point to not go that route this time. They're not promising the world this time. They're being realistic. They're keeping themselves grounded. And the irony is, that almost seems to be backfiring on them, because people are so used to projects being over-hyped and over-promised. Funny how that works.
If they can get enough funding in the meantime to put more time and resources into creating the crafting system for launch, then they will do that. KS isn't "the end" of the funding cycle for them. They've already mentioned that they have other sources in mind to help with things after that. So, really, it's not even something to be breaking a sweat over at this point.

I agree with TangentPoint. I've been waiting for this kind of game for ten years, ever since i learned vanilla wow was not gonna take a route of an mmoRPG, but something else, more casual and boring. If crafting won't be at launch, so be it. I'm not going anywhere, they have plenty of time to add features and fix bugs. And if they do things right, people will keep playing for several years, not weeks like in many modern MMOs.
