Well, actually, it has only confirmed what I already knew... only a very few people here are worth reading because they have a balanced and rather unbiased opinion and are able to give positive points even to a game they do not like because it's well made. Those people are also visible in this thread, makes it easy to enhance your forum friend list.
So if someone dislikes WoW and says it's a bad game from their point of view they have to be biased? Even though saying which game is "the worst" is inherently a subjective judgement. If the thread specifically asked for the most buggy or least polished game then I would agree with you that WoW is clearly not that but a game can be very well polished and still be completely unfun to some people. When you add in a lot of hype you get a game that most people will try even if it doesn't seem like their thing (unlike all those crappy cheap F2P games which most people on here probably wouldn't even play).
If you're really saying that WoW is such an inherently good game that no one could possibly honestly not have fun playing it then it sounds like you're the one with a bias problem.
{Has to trick you into thinking it's a decent game for a while until you finally realize it actually isn't very good and you wasted a bunch of time. Both those games did that to me. Far worse than a crap game I immediately know is crap and uninstall after 10 minutes.}
There have been countless MMO's that I found boring and uninstalled right away, yeah.
But I'll give the "honor" of worst to Neverwinter as well, since it also wasted a lot of my time.
Some of the reasons why it deserves the honor so much:
- Devs that literally have no idea how their game mechanics work, or when they are broken (anyone who had the misfortune of being around when they broke the Guardian's block ability will know what I'm talking about).
- An absolutely terrible groupfinder, that not only puts you in teams that have no hope of ever finishing a dungeon (all DPS with not a single healer for example), but also consistently places you in dungeons above your level - and to add insult to injury; it had no option to recruit a replacement if anyone disconnected or left (not even by directly inviting someone as that required the entire group to leave the dungeon, at which point it immediately reset - and upon reentering you would no longer qualify for the groupfinder reward)
- Balance was an absolute joke throughout the entire game; ranging from groups that were more efficient by shunning the tanking classes for end game content, to two classes completely dominating everything (control wizards and trickster rogues) in PvP and PvE both.
- Bonus points for having the rudest forum moderators I've ever seen on an MMO, who repeatedly insulted their players (but hey, at least they didn't pay for them since they were all volunteers).
- Giving absolute power to one random player (the one who happened to get the groupleader tag randomly assigned to him when the group forms) - who had the ability the kick with impunity, no voting whatsoever necessary.
Oh, and that worked in both PvP and PvE.
- Every PvP match was plagued with at least a couple of bots or plain AFKers.
And that's only the tip of the iceberg.
I don't know what their current state is now, but it's the one game I will warn people away from if they ever ask my opinion, and where I'm convinced the dev team doesn't have a clue what they're doing.
I dont understand all the hate for neverwinter. Sure it has problems, but its no where near the worst ever. I am not sure how you can say the group finder puts you in dungeons above your level when you choose what dungeons you queue for. If you dont meet the lvl requirements or the gear score requirements you cant even queue for it. The group finder is broken though as it often puts you into incomplete groups. To remedy this just find a guild that runs the dungeons. I wish they would fix the dungeon exploits though. Its hard to find people who do all dungeon bosses legitimately. It is very easy in the begining, but once you get around lvl 50 its starts to get harder. Some of the epic dungeons are very hard if done legitimately and you can not do them w/o a proper party make up.
I have tried many many f2p games and its hard to pick one as the worst, but it has to be one of the asian grinders by far.

I wouldn't say they're biased or even wrong. They're just blissfully ignorant of what a truly awful MMO is.
I can tell that most people in this thread never played anything but AAA big-budget MMOs. Are the people who are listing like, WoW, Rift, GW2 as the worst MMO trolls or have they never played even a single generic asian grindfest MMO?
Personally the worst MMO I ever played... hmm.
Actually I can't even remember the name of the worst MMO I ever played. While playing another game, I think maybe City of Heroes, someone I was grouping with wanted me to try this MMO they liked.
It was a finished MMO but basically it felt like playing an alpha version of a game. This was one excerpt from the convo I had with the guy after I started the game:
"Uh, there's something wrong with my sound, I can't hear anything."
"Oh, there isn't any sound."
Very ugly graphics, poor animation quality, buggy combat, no explanation for a lot of the systems, the list goes on. Basically it felt like the game was completely unfinished.
It makes me laugh when people actually say WoW is the worst MMO they ever played.
Played: DAoC, AC2, WoW, CoH, GW, GW2, WAR, AoC, Champions Online, Rift, Dragon Nest, Vindictus, Warframe, Neverwinter, Dungeon Fighter Online

That is because you dont get it. Huge dissapointment gives a much more lasting effect than some crappy game you never heard of before. I cant remember all the trash MMOs I have played but I do remember overrated crap which I expected to be good but turned out nothing of the kind.
b)Vanguard right after launch (it's a very good game now though)
I think that if there hadn't had been the lawsuit as to who owned the world building tech this game would of had a chance and perhaps they could have fixed the myriad of bugs. As it was "settlers of ganereth" was pretty unpolished. The world was HUGE and would take a long time to fly from one side to the next. The crafting was pretty good too, but nothing compared to my dragon! The stupid forums are still up too believe it or not! This was one game I was looking forward too. I read some where that Snail Games from China bought the IP and it has been developed but changed a lot...I forget what they renamed it....I could be mistaken though.

So to you, what is bad is what turned out to be not as good as you thought it was going to be.
But if you play a crap MMO that you had no expectations of, that makes it not as bad, even if it's so bad that you can't even remember it at all.
What would you rather play for a year then? One of the disappointing MMOs or one of the trash MMOs?
Played: DAoC, AC2, WoW, CoH, GW, GW2, WAR, AoC, Champions Online, Rift, Dragon Nest, Vindictus, Warframe, Neverwinter, Dungeon Fighter Online
Worst MMO I ever played has to be EVE and City of Heroes. Couldn't get into the slow paced gameplay of EVE and could never get into super hero mmos.
I was most disapointed in Age of Conan and Aion. Just my 2 cents.
Yes, Eve is also on the top of my "Worst" lists. The only thing it had going for it was that you at least got a finished game for your money... albeit a slow, watching-paint-peel experience.
CoH worst mmo you ever played? Such detailed character customization and stuff not seen in other MMOs (design your own quests and share them with the whole game in a virtual reality quest hub zomg)
Released when it was still in alpha stage or so it seemed. No quests. No itemization or loot. All you could do was terminal missions. NPC's had no pathing.
Upon logging into the game for the first time I heard what sounded like a massive battle vs godzilla. I walked around the corner to see all these players shooting a big Fambaa that was stuck in world geometry. You could do this anywhere and level a profession to master in a few hours.
PVP at the beginning was laughable. Nobody had armor so everyone got one shot. This evolved into clone zerglings. You'd shoot someone down, they'd rush back from the clone center and shoot you... vice versa.
The many combat revamps... if you played you know about these. They'd make major changes to professions. In the end they removed almost all of them.
Their initial introduction of Jedi... having to master a ton of the 20+ professions to unlock the special one.... and after the final combat revamp they make jedi a starting class lol. Total insult to anyone who grinded them.
Tried SWG and the game was the buggiest mess I have ever seen.
What would you rather play for a year then? One of the disappointing MMOs or one of the trash MMOs?
Why would I play either for a year in the real world? A game with potential that wastes it's potential or a game that can fool you into thinking it's better than it is is worse for me as a player than a game that just screams out crap the moment I install it. I don't live in a hypothetical world where those are the only 2 games I can choose from. The disappointing game is far more likely to suck up and waste more of my time than the flat out bad game. Hell with the amount of Youtube videos and things now there's no reason ever to install a flat out terrible game.
And what sucks more from a player's perspective? A game that just missed being something fun or a game that was clearly always destined for the trash heap? Certainly the first is way more frustrating.
WoW. after spending countless hours with numerous toons, badge grindingx10 toons per day gets real old real quick. from "vanilla" to care bears I saw it go from slightly challenging and entertaining to a totally patronizing insult with training wheels dominated by the most rapidly diminishing quality of attitudes within its community. bugs, no. utter let down as a reward for time wasted in this universe 10/10 and I'm not even hating... I am indifferent to its continued existence.
I have suffered bug riddled games that have been far more engaging and with better atmosphere and a higher quality of players in all games since then. TSW for ie. was great and never understood the swtor hate, but i think after WoW i can't stomach a fantasy game ever again.
Well, actually, it has only confirmed what I already knew... only a very few people here are worth reading because they have a balanced and rather unbiased opinion and are able to give positive points even to a game they do not like because it's well made. No,wrong. the title is worst MMO you ever played, meaning the people that post. Whatever it is it is. Some people aren't the sheep that mess up the industry and buy every piece of crap that comes out and stay loyal to one and maybe trial one or two.So get off your high horse.
Edited to remove swear words,i am learning but still don't give a %$" if I get banned.one day i will print a screenshot of my warnings and bans.
World of Warcraft and Rift were both terrible. Excessive use of global cool down alone made getting past the the Free trial a chore. Proudly never spent a dime on either game.
Dont know how anyone could ever say WoW, litterally thee most successful MMO on the planet, the worst MMO ever played. lol For me tho, it was definately "defiance" the game, which is an off shoot of the tv series. It is insanely boring up until the last boss which is damn close to impossible to beat, and then you just turn the game off and find another game for 2.99 on steam.
It was just soooo hyped with lots of magical adjectives attached to it. In reality it was just very boring single player mmorpg with zero focus towards team play and community building.

Worst MMO, by definiition, is ONE MMO.
Every MMO after EQ ... there are more than one. So your worst MMO cannot be "every MMO fater EQ".

I Saw some one else put it on here, Nice to Know that I am not the only one.
1. Gods and Heros Rome Rising. There are no words. Everyone that worked on this should be black Listed for Life from the game industry.
2. Eve Online... So boring, tired it like 3 times. Waste of time.
3. GW2... Boring .. waited how long for this one.
4. Neverwinter ... Like DDO hate this trash.
5. TSW... lol, nice combat. Not my cup of tea. uninstalled very quickly.
