They let Brad go and take some devs with him to start the project. They cant afford to fund it now with EQN in the works, but there is little chance that SoE would at least be the publisher.
When this game first came out I got two friends to buy the game too. My video card fried after the first few minutes of trying to play, and the two friends couldn't get more than 1 fps.
After I bought a new and upgraded video card I played sans friends and enjoyed for a little while until a new came out and drew me away...
Way to kick a group of players while they are down. Do you goto funerals and say to the widows 'Now he's outta the way...you should meet my cousin.'?
I enjoyed Vanguard during my time there. But couldn't quite settle into it. I guess it was that game that 'almost was' for me. Hopefully those that continue to play it find themselves a new home in time.
If it weren't for all the bugs, glitches and performance issues of this game I would have played it longer. I enjoyed the diplomacy and crafting of the game very much.....The combat? It was not even in my top 20 pick.
I'm sad to announce that on July 31, 2014 we will sunset one of our longest-running games, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. This decision was not easy -- we took much time and consideration before deciding to move forward with this plan.
But here's the deal...player population numbers have decreased making it difficult to justify the resources needed to support and update this game. This is an older game and we're experiencing more and more technical challenges to continue running and updating it in a way you deserve. Simply put, these are issues that cannot be fixed in the long term and as a player, we would be doing you a disservice and going against our company commitment to provide the best gameplay experiences. So given this information, sunsetting the game later this year is the inevitable conclusion.
Again, this is not a decision that we approached lightly or without serious thought and examination. We've grown with you and the community throughout the years and shutting down the game is certainly not ideal, but necessary regardless.
I also want to let current Vanguard members know that we will be upgrading your membership to SOE's new All Access membership. Basically under this new All Access plan, you can continue to enjoy membership benefits in Vanguard until it sunsets, only now, you’ll also have top tier access in our other membership games. It is my hope that by upgrading your membership to All Access, you’ll have an opportunity to explore our other games to see if one is a fit for you. Vanguard has had an exceptional legacy over the last seven years and I cannot thank you enough for your commitment, support and enthusiasm through the years. We will be providing more information on the game's sunset soon. In the meantime, I will be doing an AMA on Reddit at 3 p.m. today so I encourage you to join in on the conversation with any of your questions.

Vanguard fans, come on over guys and get this off the ground!
The timing on this seems quite interesting.........and not necessarily a bad thing if you get what I am saying.
Because the best way to memorialize the sunset of a beloved game is to give your money to the same moron responsible for its failure!
Condolences to the fans though. I lost Earth & Beyond, Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, and City of Heroes, so I know how much it sucks to lose a game which, by all rights, should have been much more successful. Though to be fair CoX got a great run, and Vanguard lasted much longer than anyone could've guessed.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!
We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.
Glad this is happening. All the people constantly blathering about how good the game is when they don't even support or play it.
I won't say that I'm glad it's happening, I do want people to have games they enjoy rather than spend their time whining on internet forums that no one makes anything for them.
But I totally agree that there's nothing more irritating than people who go on and on about how great some game is but they won't play it for some petty reason. I always urge people to go show your support for what you like and want to see more of. That's the only way you'll get what you want. Otherwise, you can continue to sit on the forums and complain while others are having fun.
Such a shame. I recently bought an all access pass and so my daughter could play Free realms with her friends and I was playing Vanguard, EQ2, and wizardry. Here they go shutting down all but EQ2 which I'm not really interested in. So what is left for that all access pass?
I know they are moving all those resources to EQN and EQN: Landmark which I have no interest in. They may not have had huge crowds on the servers for those games, but they had a lot of loyal fans and when you kick them to the curb so you can pull the resources for something that isn't even launched yet, isn't going to make those fans happy. I know many have already canx their subs on all sony games they were subbed to and aren't ever coming back and this includes me.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
Can't say I'm surprised. The game has been on life support for years now. But given its age, and the state of its player base, I can see that it makes business sense to finally close it down. Its too bad, as it could have been a really great game.
Copy paste of every shut down SoE game... I feel bad for the fans. You're not going to find a replacement any time soon.
No but we can cancel our subs and ask for refunds and then put that money towards an MMO that caters to the EQ/VG type of players Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, the more money pledged the more chance of keeping it away from companies like SOE that mismanage and destroy our favourite games.
This is going to be one of those everyone is sad to see it go but no one was actually playing it. ( obviously a few were )
It ran a hell of a lot longer than I ever thought it would.
Yep, this is what happens when people don't put their money where their mouth is. Everyone talks about wanting oldschool, but people don't support that.
It is sad for those who actually did play and pay. It always is.
SOE never took this game seriously. Why would you expect players to?

Who loses more when a developer says there's no money in old school mmos. The devs who make another kind of game, or the guy who wants a game no one will make ?
It should of went free to play, so should SWG. But as you can see SOE refuses to let anyone play any of there games for free. They don't believe in the free to play model.
Good Bye Vanguard, you had a troubled birth and never escaped that being only the Stepchild of your Family - Rest Well!

VG wasn't my thing but I empathize with the devoted fans. I hope you can accomplish everything you wanted to before the sun finally goes down on your game. I hope you find a new home soon and make the most of things.
What I don't get is why don't game companies just stop updating a game and let it run until the subscriptions are no longer paying for the cost to operate it? When City of Heroes was sundowning the staff was reduced to one operator and a few support staff. I don't know much about the economics of MMORPGs but keeping a product around can't cost that much right? What's wrong with letting the fans have their fun for a while longer.

SOE has nothing to do with Pantheon.

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

Wow......
Suddenly your incoherent posting makes a lot more sense now.

It's a shame. Rest in peace Vanguard

Vanguard had so much potential... but the ball was dropped very early on it. Sigil essentially blew it and SOE couldn't fix it.
I really enjoyed the classes and the starting areas (original - the one they added later was ok also).
I can't say that I am surprised that it is being shut down, though.
R.I.P. Vanguard.... I almost knew you well.
If it weren't for all the bugs, glitches and performance issues of this game I would have played it longer. I enjoyed the diplomacy and crafting of the game very much.....The combat? It was not even in my top 20 pick.

So long, Vanguard!
Man Vanguard has great rock textures...
Still my favorite game world of any MMO.
I still don't get how this can't be run on auto pilot with emergency customer support. I mean it was only that way for years. What's so different now?
