ClickFest games, your thoughts on them?

So I saw a game on top-10 worst list for 2013 list called Yitien.  It's flash, 2.5d, F2P, and a small download so I figured I'd take a look.

I think it fits with the category of ClickFest in that the game can be played almost entirely by following dialogs and "click".  Let me know if I'm misunderstanding ClickFest.

Pick up quest, (click), run to mobs, (click), kill mobs (click), run to quest turn-in (click), ... and repeat.  Even skill-ups and equipment changes are automated.

The weird thing in my playing this is that I find it strangely entertaining.  It's like MMORPG-Lite.  Super easy to play, obviously tuned so that all tasks are almost impossible to fail.   I've made it to something like level 32 in at most 4 hours of gameplay, so progression moves right along.  It's not grindy, at least not yet, which I find surprising.  It feels almost like an interactive novel rather than a game.

I have to wonder if this is the future for ultra-casual gaming (short sessions, fast progression, entire game playable with engine provided hand-holding)?

Is this the future you ask?  Do you think this new thing called the Internet is just a fad or that it is the future? /sarcasm off

    Shouldn't be shocking.

EQII has a collection system which players just refer to as "shinies". The extremes players will go to collect little sprites all over Norrath is not only funny (shiny between 2 walkers...hehehe...and watch a dungeon party try to grab it), it's so addictive...and v-e-r-y profitable.

Developers tend to dislike click fest games because they maybe bored of building such games, but players enjoy it as quick time sinks without the fuss (log on for an hour and click 50x for some fun deal).

See there's at least 2 types of developers -- open access player orientated satisfy the Id types; and the "old skool" sadistic types that everything MUST be a "challenge".

Players don't care. They play what's fun to them. If you like them, play them and forget what others think.

I like eating wild game. So the keyword is actually "Fun?"

So I'm just late to the party?  It's the first browser MMORPG that I've tried.  I've never seen a PC MMORPG with this level of automation.  Zentia was sort of close, but nowhere near this automatic.

Diablo is a clickfest and that's one of Blizzard's most popular games.

Older Korean mmos like L2 and RO were heavily click base and anything but casual.

Do you mean 'user interface' with functions like click to move?  Yeah, I've seen designs like them.  Would the UI have been where clickfest got its name?  Makes sense.

So is there a name for the new ultra-casual MMORPGs that have highly automated gameplay?

    There's 3 clickfests terms here:

    1. The Asian style movement system that uses the mouse to move instead WASD, which is popular there.

    2. The means to do anything in the game itself -- gathering/fighting is click based (perfect example of clickfest browser game is Farmville/2).

    3. Clicking the interface instead of using mouseovers.

It's #2 in the West that folks refer to as a clicking game, and somethings has a negative view (and some devs are on a crusade against [ironically not over Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, either]).

Much appreciated.  Thanks for breaking it down for me.

People use these terms, but I seldom see them defined.  Makes it sort of hard to follow conversations.
