Press Only Hands-On Impressions Incoming

lunatiquezlunatiquez Member UncommonPosts: 381

It seems that this is the rumoured "NDA lift":

"New ESO hands-on impressions are coming! Recently, members of the press participated in the ESO beta and they’ll be sharing their impressions of the beta with you starting tomorrow morning. Check your favorite gaming news sites starting at 10:00 AM EST for hands-on impressions, screenshots, and video.

Testers: please remember that the contents of the beta are still protected by the Non-Disclosure Agreement. You aren’t permitted to share your own impressions or media just yet!"

Does it matter?

They are delusional if they think their NDA will stand.  So many people are going to break it this weekend.

Like I said in my earlier thread on this, I'm having a hard time imagining how this will work in practice: the press will give descriptions of details and systems based on their game play. Then there will be a comment section following each article where the only people who have first hand knowledge of what the press was going on about -- all 2 million of us -- can't comment intelligently on their impressions? yeah...right.

Sounds like the biggest NDA-breaking bait in the history of game sites.

Tentonhammer MIGHT give an unbiased view.

But I suspect the most critical comments we see will be something completely meaningless t most people, and the writer will be sure to make that clear.

Because they cant with good conscience give a 100% ballwashing preview of any game even if it is perfect. Because they have to have some critical coment in there to at least appear unbiased.

Irrelevant in the end as just about anyone who wants to get in will get in this weekend. so all these press guys will be doing is spewing opinions which everyone will have. guys who get in will finally have some first hand knowledge, albeit extremely resticted to at lest the fundamentals of the game.

    Gotta love them dogmatic doomsayers.

And yes it matters. Well, at least for the smart customers who know what part of the information matters to their own personal tastes. Those people will be able to make a better decision on whether or not to get the game.

Of course you'll also see another flamefest between fanboys and detractors.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

It will be one more way for people to potentially get some new information and perhaps get a better impression of the game.

As the next step in the game roll out, I can't fathom how it is a bad thing.

Surely, you don't allow previews/reviews to do your thinking for you.

I'm looking forward to the coverage.

I'll wager 10 septims that on Tuesday the muzzle will be taken off everyone.  (even though I hope it isn't - I shudder to think what these forums will look like then)

And if there is an open beta, as indicated, then all will be revealed. You can directly make up your own mind then.

It's press impressions, so it doesn't really matter, imo.

^ Yes, so many beta keys given out. Thought I seen a post on here that Curse had 500,000 to give away. Plus other gaming sites im sure.

I stopped giving a fuck about site reviews about 4 years ago, now my policy is based entirely on my own opinion when/if I play it

Well once something becomes public knowledge, can't we discuss it openly?

I would be really surprised to see negative reviews from the press. They cannot go against their own business adn put out a negative "hands-on" impression. After all they live on the hype of the games.

I bet it will go as "Great game but with minor problems that nobody cares about".  Go check press review for Swtor ... an average score of 9 out of 10

Let's wait for when the NDA is lifted and gamers are free to express their opinions

I intend to form an opinion from playing the game. I was just commenting on how they always use those words to describe nearly every mmo that comes out. It's just like movie commericals lol. It would please me greatly to have a popular gaming site post nothing about it and when asked why they could respond "well sir, we don't review hot garbage here, we review games."

I have a feeling it's going to be something like a "layered" NDA. The weekend testers should be free to talk all they want about their impressions because it will be public information and the NDA will probably be a moot point for them. However, PTS shard folks are most definitely still under it when it comes to anything the press hasn't released.

My guess is they will either let the press get their stuff out on Friday and lift the nda Sat/Sun, or they will wait until the press write up their PvP experience from this weekends beta (some press have already tweeted they are doing pvp this weekend), then lift the NDA

    I rest my case.

If you dont know what I'm talking about, look up the last 2 threads of mine that got locked.

I've been in this game for years, it made me a animal
There's rules to this shit, I wrote me a manual
A step-by-step booklet for you to get
     your game on track.

Hate to say I told you so, but, I TOLD YOU SO.

The media hands on did wonders for EA/ Maxis and the sale of SimCity.

Everything I read said the game was amazing, one of the best SimCity's to date.

Almost a year later and the core game still doesn't work properly.

Clearly the "media" knows what they're talking about.

You mean the "no forums" one, how does this help your case when the game actually has more than one official forum?

Or are you talking about the one where you said the NDA doesn't matter? Again how does this help you say "told you so"?

If the lift is press only, then I will take what they say with a grain of salt.  Most sites get their Alpha and Beta access gratis from companies, so they are very much "inclined", shall we say, to not be very critical.

I want to hear from the players when the NDA truly lifts and we can get unbiased information and perspectives.

I take bets that this site will be right on this train. If not = no beta keys for you. No beta keys = less hits/clicks on your page. Less hits = less value of your adspace. Can anyone point me out to a website with enough spine to tell things how they actually are about ESO?
go grab a beta key from curse is free now & test your self..problem solved?

    This.... +1

Except that my point was not that i need unbiased info on the game, but rather regarding the "Incoming paid endorsement" Joe pointed out in his post. I've played my fair share of ESO already and know why the NDA is still in place.

I was just asking for a website that does not jump on the hypetrain as soon as Zenimax allows them to release their hands-on "impression" which will pretty much contain what Zenimax wants them to publish pre-release.

from what i remember u dint have such problems & mmorpg.com wasnt that bad when they reviewed your game (GW2) right?

I'd just like to find a poster on these forums that gave an unbiased opinion about anything ....like any other game if you like it play it if you don't be like a bird and flock off somewhere

Well, we can't even comment on or debate the accuracy of a press preview article with that disclaimer. Let the hype train roll. I will admit I think its BS though and I don't care who has done X before.
