Really? Wildstar looks boring as hell, and already seems outdated, since most, if not all of the mechanics have been done already, and it looks similar to WoW since 2004.
Originally posted by Rockniss I was on the fence with Wildstar and ESO, but with ESO not looking like something I want to invest in, I am turning to Wildstar. Anyone else a little disappointed with ESO and now turning more attention to Wildstar?
Why does it have to be between these two games? In fact why place the high expectation on yourself about last hope business and all that pish posh. There are some good MMO's out there, and if I am honest ESO and Wildstar are quite different from each other so its not like they were holding your interest as a specific style of gameplay. So, just ask yourself "What MMO you wish to play" if the game doesn't exist right now, chances are it might in the future.

well, it might look like this, unless you actually wait for EQN or WH40k (which i do).
wildstar... naaa.... too many telegraphs ("pls dont stand in the ae. i will mark it red for you!"... whatever)
The telegraphs are so blatant that a blind man can see them in this game. No thanks.
They are exactly like TERA, or ESO, or FFXIV, or Neverwinter, or really any mmo from the past 5 years.
They look exactly the same
Of course they look the same, but it appears to me that you are given way too much time in Wildstar to get the hell outta the red. I never played TERA or FFXIV to compare and ESO is in beta so who knows how their telegraphs will be at launch and I have seen some AOE type attacks that didn't have red zones, but that's probably a bug. The entre idea is for lazy gamers and needs to go the way of the dinosaur, but then the majority of gamers these days aren't used to using brain power to figure out that when the mob takes a huge backswing that an AOE is about to be incoming. I can only imagine the collective crying that would happen if an MMO came out without this.
You should probably keep in mind that the telegraphs you are seeing are for low level content for most of the released videos. The amount of time you get to see / move out of telegraphs later on is significantly lower, more akin to PvP telegraphs (ie: most will hit you, unless its a super big move where you get an extra second or so).
My friends will play ESO so I will play ESO, nowadays I realized that mmos are subpar experiences compared to single player games, player interaction is the only redeeming factor on them and friends are multipliers on the experience.
"It has potential" -Second most used phrase on existence "It sucks" -Most used phrase on existence
Wildstar ? that game where you see telegraphs for every fucking action you or a npc/mob does ? they only need to make new telegraphs for walking/running to make it even more easy/handholding because you know, knowing where your character will move when you press aswd can be very difficult some times.
So its not about the graphics or the art but a game where you stare at the floor 80% of the time, watching for red/blue/greem circles instead of the actual animations, combat or world isn't for me.
PD: and yes ESO, GW2 and other new games have telegraphs but wildstar took it to the next level of the absurd.

Meh looks like ESO is still our last hope forced 40 man raids in Wildstar put me off hardcore raiders of course will love it. To all their own I'll take deep and interesting story and quests over standing around waiting 40 a 40 man raid to form up.
Standing around waiting on 40 people to get done with face book, get off texting and tweeting, hoping the tanks know what to do and the healers aren't distracted by Mr. Wuffles when the raid finally does form after 6 hours of standing around waiting on everyone. No thanks. And trying to get a pug raid together is worse. No bloody thanks.
The telegraphs, are meh to me, I can live with that IF they weren't going to allow add-ons. Now that they want it to be add- on heavy, you are going to have a telegraph for the telegraph among other things. Ridiculous.
Anyway, if you are in to that have at it and enjoy! I sincerely wish you the very best. I am waiting for Wh40K EC anyway. This years crop of games, while looking better than it has for the past...8ish years has nothing that is really pulling me in.
So I guess the TL/DR for me is: Neither.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
I have more hope for EQ Next TBH, and not much at that given the fact that its free to play. Actually, EQN has the potential to have the most disastrous release given how many people want to play it and the fact that its free. Imagine millions of people trying to log in at once... Think I'll sit that out.
Anyway, Wildstar or Wowstar is just Wow with a bit of GW2 thrown in. I played these games, most gamers have but I want something different and Wildstar doesn't seem to offer that.

You would be suprised. But it works rather good. The combat is fun and challenging. But you also know why the heck did you get hit.
That being said...
Wildstar is just WOW 2.0
Do we really need that ?
THIS !
Out of all the games that we have called "WoWclone" Wildstar really deserves this. Never have I seen a more blatant and obvious copy. Sure it has a few more bells and whistles... but that should be a given. Heck even the art style is a close cousin to WoW.
Honestly if i wanted to play a game close to WoW i would play WoW, more polish larger player base and absolutely more content.
Just seems odd to be pinning your hopes on Wildstar, if you think this game is your last hope for a MMO, i think your wasting your time and should look into playing WoW.
Of course this is all my opinion, and just like the OP it really only matters to me, i will wait for The Repopulation, EQnext, or the other SWGish game SOE is developing.
Besides Starbound has been taking up alot of my time and i am strongly considering getting into the alpha of EQNLandmark.

I would not say that Wildstar is OUR last hope as in all MMORPG players, but it is definitely one of my only MMORPG hopes for 2014. I like the idea too of EQN/L but I would be honestly surprised if it is released this year (at least EQN).
I am pretty sure that despite my feeling meh after watching gameplay videos of ESO that it will be an MMORPG. It may even be one that people will overall enjoy to play, but I am not sure it is my kind of game despite liking previous titles in the ES series. I did just take the advice of several people on these forums to get Skyrim if someone wants to play an ES game. So far, I really like it. I think it would be hard for me to pick up ESO after playing Morrowind and Skyrim because MMORPGs have to cut down a lot on the personalization, personal story, etc that you get in single player RPGs.
The gameplay videos of Wildstar look better, but I am still unsure about how fun the actual combat mechanics are. They seem in between action and MMORPG. I have tried other games that were hybrids like that but did not do it for me. The other aspects make me think though that if most of the promises can be kept, that game will be some serious, light-hearted fun. It is nice too to have a new sci-fi game to doink around in for a change. I have no idea what its longetivity will be like.
Sadly these games are off the radar still (I have a short range tactical radar), closer to release I will be running around internets trumpeting how AZOME they will be sure, just not quite there yet ;D
Yeah don't you just love it when one or two people assume everyone that plays an mmo will automatically agree with them because they spouting the "party line"?
We see this every other year when there are impending mmo releases.

though I can not be hardcore, I want them around, there is something about hardcore that draws me in.
I think you misunderstood the term Hardcore,it doesn't mean tougher gaming,it means dedicated to nothing but raiding.I msot certainly could not be attracted to singular game play.
Being former Blizzard,i somehow get the feeling WS does not know anything but Blizzard type design, which is a weak game dedicated to end level raiding.
I personally despise that type of design,i want "A GAME" not some few instances to repeat over and over, that is not rpg gaming that is a one gimmick attempt to attract players.
I am 100%certain you ask the WS team they would say their game is not about that but i bet in the end the majority will be playing the game exactly like that.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
OP please stop using words like 'our'. You don't speak for me. I won't even touch wildstar with a 10 foot pole.

Wait a sec....did you just "write off" a game you are beta testing because it has some bugs?

What is this world coming to lol
That struck my eye too, I understand if people dont want to play something because they dont like the gameplay, classes, factions, whatever, but damn if there's downtime or bugs in beta, better start looking for the next game haha

It's going to require two things WoW didn't: (or maybe 3 now I think of it) Skill, precision and no more select-all-group-members-to-lazy-heal. :P
WoW gave everything "on a stick" (or pacifier, however you sway) and their answer to providing dificulty was more HP & snares from mobs and bosses and then a few more fire sparkles in dungeons and raids.
Out of all the games that we have called "WoWclone" Wildstar really deserves this. Never have I seen a more blatant and obvious copy.

WoW has telegraphs to btw. You don't think those casting bars and flames in the middle of the room are a type of telegraph? Wildstar has just made telegraphs a more integral part of the game from early on. I don't think that makes them easier since you can see some pretty complicated telegraphs in Wildstar rivaling anything WoW does and one might even argue that teaching players to deal with them early on allows the developers to create much more varied and complicated ones than even high end WoW raids have.
The problem Wildstar is going to have is distinguishing itself from the pack.
Been playing WoW recently, then watching the WS streams. Have to say that WS looks way more interesting, and the sci-fi aspect is much much more attention grabbing. The problem is, the market is oversaturated with Fantasy mmo's. The "OTHER" game/beta is so damned boring, that by saturday of a beta weekend, I stopped playing because it was sooooo boring.
I have a feeling Wildstar will be great, and lasting. From what I hear from streamers, I think ESO won't be an issue with it. The haters will always just hate without researching, checking streams/footage, and dev speaks. For those, just stick with WoW and let that $#!T storm do what it does.
