Is there combat?

drtack1drtack1 Member UncommonPosts: 273

Simple enough question, is there any actual combat in EQNL?

I enjoy crafting and building but if there is nothing else to do in game other then gathering resources and crafting......I feel like this would get old pretty fast.

So is there actually going to be any combat in this game in the future?

There will be combat, yes. I think they are adding their first mob (a big plant looking thing) fairly soon. Although I don't know if they are going to add the combat portion soon.

interesting, have they added more server space? I read some where that its impossible to find land to claim.

As i understand it, Everquest Next: Landmark is a separate game without combat, just the mineing/building stuff with the engine.

Everquest Next will be the "main" game, with combat and story line and all that.

But i could be wrong, i haven't really been following the game/s.

I don't know what the future is in store but no there isn't any combat it is all about building and gathering, gathering, gathering. I would like to say for example see harmless "critter" type of animals eg: punch pigs to get hides, punch sheep to get wool which could be used as building materials or clothing options. So, answer is no there is no combat from what I've seen.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

I'm not actually sure how much space is left, but 2 days ago (pretty sure it was 2 days ago) they did add another server with 25 more islands. I'm 60% sure there are spots left. Someone else can probably help you with that.

Cool, thanks everyone. I am really bored with some extra cash and was thinking of throwing some money their way lol.

It will probably be very simple combat, at the moment there are 3 unusable hotkeys in the UI, everyone assumes that they are for combat.

According to them, combat will be in before closed beta launch. Combat is done and has been done for a while. It's npc pathing AI that is still being worked on.

They have added several servers so there are places to claim. They also completely reworked the map so that it is far easier to find claim space.

    I'm quite enjoying it myself.

    Cheers! :D

It looks like there is a lot more room now.  My claim was surrounded not long ago and now everything seems more spaced out. I heard they cut back on multiple claims.

Combat is coming and there is plenty of space, especially around the edges of the map.

Remember the game is still being developed; what is currently being "played" is alpha not even beta, let alone weeks before formal launch and still under NDA!

My impression is that they were not planning on having any combat. Post-Minecraft taking off things seem to have changed - with the question what can be sold in a cash shop.

Ultimately they could just scrap EQN - everything could be included in EQNL !

Now it almost certainly won't be but where they draw the line remains to be seen; at the moment its an alpha build.

It's not a conventional alpha, its completely playable with very few bugs, it's just not content complete.

NDA was lifted some time ago.

    There WILL be combat.

They won't scrap EQN, its a totally different game anyway, even if they did scrap EQN, they would not dump it into landmark.

So pretty much everything you posted is...well....wrong im afraid.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

So basically you didn't read what I said?

How did you construe what I said as "EQNL is under NDA". I said that EQNL is an alpha NOT a beta and NOT a game about to launch still under NDA. Which most people would see as being a dig at ESO - sorry if that wasn't clear for you"

And of  course it is playable. I don't think you understand what an alpha is. It is the point at which concepts and major structural parameters are established.

From reading what SoE initially said I don't believe that they originally intended EQNL to have combat. Now they have indeed said that it will have combat. Tomorrow they may decide to take it out. I don't think they will because Minecraft has combat - but the point is: its an alpha.

Nor did I say that they would scrap EQN. I actually said that they almost certainly won't. Read the post.

The marketing challenge for SoE is about demographics and targeting:

    • how to make a game that appeals to the world builder (read Minecraft) crowd - with EQNL;
    • how to make a game that appeals to "adventurers" - with EQN.
    • how to cater for those who want both - with .....?
People who want both would be happy to see EQN rolled into EQNL. Which, imo, would be a disaster. Keeping EQN and EQNL totally distinct is easy; deciding how much of EQN to "fold" into EQNL is hard.

It is all about trying to appeal to the most people. Take combat. "Pure builders" don't need combat. Minecraft has it though so EQNL will almost certainly have it as well. If it doesn't work as they envisage however guess what: it's an alpha and they could take it out.!

So before you go and say someones post is just about wrong in everything take the trouble to read it.
