Building stuff

GrahorGrahor Member Posts: 828

Come one, people, you've played plenty of Landmark already. Where is the stuff you are building? Not crafting, but building - your houses, holds, monuments? Post your screenshots and videos.

Videos of _building_ stuff. If I'll see another video of clicking-on-the-ground and holding-mouse-button-for-wood I'm gonna bite someone.

I haven't really got over to screenshotting my stuff yet, but I'll do it once I get home and post here.

In the meantime, the Landmark alpha forums are full of nice screenshots and you can access them (read-only) without buying a founder's pack:

There are some amazing stuff out there already and it's getting better all the time with ppl learning how to use the tools, having finished the "grind"* to get mats and tools, etc.

    * It took me less than 10 hours to get all the building tools and best harvesting tools.

That's some pretty freakin nice stuff! Indeed, impressive! That's what I wanted to see, that's what I wanted from the game!

Voxel size limitation shows, the thinnest possible single voxel I've seen is, judging by the character standing nearby, 20x20 cm or so, and I would like to see larger claims (unlikely, probably due to memory limits) or joined claims (much more likely, joined claims, where each claim is a separate memory structure, is a lot more feasible and doable, although presents a different challenge from computer resource point), but even at that stage it's incredibly impressive. Certainly going to build something of my own once it's released.

As for grind, 10 hours is 10 hours too many, in my opinion. But, hey, people need to earn money somehow. I'll probably not join right away, but wait until first wave of "farmers" will do their job, and I'll buy all the materials and tools from them for couple of bucks.

The sub reddit is packed with pics and video's, this forum is dead by comparison.

Bigger claims will come eventually. Whether they'll be guild-only or individually available is still not known. Adjoined claims is another thing they haven't really talked about yet, but at least in the near future we will be able to get multiple claims. Currently you cannot place a second claim even next to your own claim. That's one restriction I hope they will be removing in the close future, so we can start building communities - villages, towns and massive castles, for example.

And yes, I'm pretty sure you can skip all/most of the resource grind with cash. Which is completely fine in a game like this.

For me, the mining was actually pretty fun. Chopping down trees, not so much.

Yeah I'm not certain how this will play out but its worth noting that buying resources will be from other players that post it for sale and not from SOE. That is my understanding atleast.

SOE gets a 50% cut, as far as I know. That's how it's FTP. That and I'm sure some other stuff, like plot expansions I'm guessing.

Unmodified that is the smallest voxel size.  With the tools however you can mold them much smaller.
