Ehh i was pumped hardcore for this game more than anyone...but i have come to a conclusion that all MMORP games cannot escape the path of a defined story and rinse and repeat gameplay....i havent touched a mmorpg in over 6 months and dont plan on doing so again...there so mind numbingly borning that they make baby jesus cry and litle kittens die...
its Perfect world all over again... i remember when that game was about to be released, they promised open world housing, no instances (it didnt have many at first though), world pvp blabla... it ended being just another (pretty for its time) cash grab game.
cant believe archeage devs are doing this, no really... they 'wanted' to create a game that wont be just like all other games out there. Now they are patching it to be JUST like every other mmo released so far.
awesome, go archeage devs, make us proud and make it look more like wow, because THATS exactly what people want. more wow.
also, love how they switched focus to daily quests. i mean who on earth doesnt just love daily quests, in fact they should get rid of everything else and make us do at least 90 daily quests per day, if we want to progress end game. Because daily quests are fun. Every day, same quests. Whats there not to like?
Was just checking the games Ranking in Korea. It went up 7 spaces in the overall rankings and for JUST MMO's in Sourth Korea it seems to be beating Blade and Soul at the moment. ! Can anyone explain this to me?
I never had much interest in AA since it was a Eastern game (dont like that style), but I did like what they were doing with it until now. Love those Cash Shops I do.
At least I know I'm not missing anything when I decided this game wasn't for me basically 30 minutes after I heard about it.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
I think most has written of ArcheAge as being a viable sandbox, or "sandpark". For all the cash shop nonsense, constant delays and more and more ThemePark elements, the hype has gone out of this game.
Originally posted by Mirandel I like the name - sand-park. Not sandbox, but sandpark. Do they really mean mixture of both elements or it is a simple mistake?
It was always a sandpark game. It's people who saw some sandbox elements that began calling it sandbox.
IMO, a sandpark is more viable than a true sandbox, since it helps set the backdrop for future imagined stories. Otherwise you get Minecraft, which is a different direction from fantasy (or even sci-fi) MMORPG's, where anything goes, and that's drab IMO.
I'd consider SWG as a sandpark as well, since it had scripted stories, a definitive set of requirements for advancement, and of course the backdrop was Star Wars. Note though, that other games don't have the automatic affinity to a known IP, so a little more themepark to set the mood for end-game roleplaying helps, a lot.
ArcheAge is more sandbox than the majority of MMORPG's, so the designation Sandbox stuck. Not a problem though for gamers, since "true" sandbox games are extraordinarily niche. Many are hostile environments, many still are lonely environments (like creation oriented games).
Cash shop gear with stats.......that's all i needed to hear , i had scratched this game off my list already but not i'm done with it. Trion would be wise to dump this game.
Originally posted by Malanthius There is still hope for this game. It's beautifully done and very fun. I'm playing on the RU OBT and love it. Most of you should I don't know, actually play the game before commenting? Novel idea I know.
Most of us here know how bad these games are long before they release. We've seen it happen over and over and over again, and we know what to look for. I have yet to be wrong on any game that came out in the past 7 years. I'd LIKE to be wrong, but so far I've been proven right every time.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
Originally posted by templegjj Don't lose hope yet, I bet this game is still going to be decent, I really hope they still come out with it.
Aye, Trion didn't even release the game, the version, or the monetization model, yet people still want to hate.
I guess a viable sandpark game is too much for some.
I believe Trion will come out with a good plan. All the sandbox haters can then go back to their themepark games. ... yes they call ArcheAge a themepark, but the jokes on those that do so, because it isn't. It's laughable.
The shift in times is bringing out all the rats from under the floors ...:( .... defend your themepark industry!

It really does seem so. People almost beg for XLGames to include unwanted content, and for TRION not to have any regulating influence.
The only reason for that seems to be that they are prejudiced against companies and their ability to realise their original concepts.
About those restricted mindsets, I always feel as if they were bound to actually cause what they predict. If, as a potential player, you turn down a game for "not able to result in anything adhering to your taste anyways" - even though the concepts would be exactly what you wish for -, the developer will notice, and instead work towards a customer group that has different interest from you, and appreciates the design more.
ArcheAge's developer has appealed to the Korean culture in some instances, which is quite logical, in face of their unimpressive success in China and Korea. Trion's roll in this should not be understood as a necessary evil, but more as a rational necessity, period.
I have not informed myself about recent developments of the game for a while, and so it has surprised me that the sieges are not yet live on the servers. If this did mean that XLGames had decided to cancel the original idea of castles from the game, that would be quite an issue, but it seems much more like slow work to me - and what looks like lazy development is often the fastest possible speed in consideration of the available funds.
Since nothing about this article will shock me, before I see what TRION does with it, I find all this concern about XLGames' actions pretty overreactive.
