The Game World Is Really Small! Smaller Than Vanilla WoW

Macrinus101Macrinus101 Member Posts: 44

Vanilla WoW had 40 zones. WildStar will have 23 "Regions" at launch. These regions are supposed to be larger but are they really? NOPE, most of them are not bigger than your average WoW zone, just look at the Nothern Wilds.

I enjoy large game world in MMO's but this won't even be as big or larger than Vanilla Wow, THAT IS PATHETIC.

Northern Wilds is a tiny starter zone, not a very good example.

Reddit has quite extensive map size discussion thread.

Numbers thrown around with complete map sizes. (Not sure how confirmed the Wildstar size is)

    Game miles2 km2
    WildStar 155 400
    Wow (Vanilla) 80 207

So nearly double the area (and no-one has calculated whats under those maps) and that somehow equals smaller?

Is the person paying you to lie doing so by the scale of misinformation you deliver, or the amount?

Every time I come to this site I wish it had a down vote system. Just another garbage thread.

i dont know how big the whole world is but the first few maps were very tiny, there was no room for exploration there. Talking about exploration, i was very disappointed with my explorer path when the first thing i noticed was the exploration spots marked on my map..... that kills the purpose of exploration. It seems you cant just go out exploring to find anything, you can only find the spots they mark on the map. Thats sad.

Yet you had no problem starting a thread about it and stating the world is small as a fact....Why should anyone take anything you say seriously after that? You're credibility is gone.

That is a really silly way of measuring the size of a zone. You really need to consider:

    • degree of folding (is it possible to run in straight lines from one point to another or do you have to weave around barriers)
    • speed of travel (if you move at 6mph in Wow and 20 mph in Wildstar the map would be in effect smaller not larger)
It is travel time not distance or area that determines the size of a world.  Also the density of points of interest also has a bearing on perceived size. If you keep stopping to pick the flowers the world can seem bigger and more interesting, if you have to run, swim or fly for 45 minutes before getting to the next thing to do it can seem huge but boring.
