Couple of hundred for sure - there are over 300 skyshards in the world, so that is 100+ skill points right there plus 50 from levels, then quest completion.
there's over 300 skyshards? okay i didn't know that, is that including the 50+ and 50++ content as well?

To go to the other factions you have to be 50+ , so yes to your question.
nice thanks, can you give me your source by chance? been looking for that info for a while.
Originally posted by DanitaKusor I read elsewhere that there was around 300 skill points available but it would cost 500 skill points to max every ability in the game.
The 300 skillpoints where in a developer interview, many of those come from PvE Quests..
and there is also about 150 skillpoints in crafting to max everything....which come from the same pool
and offcourse the game will be ever expanding, with new areas, new dungeons, more quests, more skyshards, more skillpoints and obviously also more new skilltrees and probably also expanding of the current skilltrees...... They promiss an ever expanding world...and thats where i am looking so much forward too..

~ 300 is right. Some of those come from leveling @ 1 per level. Not sure if you also get those after 50 when you're doing the Veteran Rank 1 - 10 progression. So 49 here and possibly 59.
There are ~ 300 Sky Shards in the world, 86 per Alliance and the rest in Cyrodiil...1-50 you'll only have access to ~ 130 of them. So... 1-50 ~ 43 Skill pints from Sky Shards.... 100 total.
The rest come from quests, dungeon runs (first time completion), Open world and open dungeon boss kills (1st time) and some achievements in PVE and Cyrodiil.

I did heard it will also work like in GW2, after the lvl cap you still get xp for a extra lvl up and you get a extra point(tehy called veteran lvl or something)

I too am excited for the idea of an evolving, updating, and changing Elder Scrolls world to enjoy with others...
But I thought the same thing about an evolving, updating, and changing Star Wars universe crafted by Bioware!
Anyways...
Some other thread, some guy who had been in beta a while calculated it out to be like 280 or so. I'd have to find the thread...
The lack of content in Star Wars TOR was a huge disappointment. I think they got so focused on bug squashing and dealing with the glaring issues that came after launch that they lost focus on new content. It's a common trap I think a lot of game developers have fallen in to and hopefully ESO can avoid.

yeah and the fact that you had to make 8 different alts to see all the story content which was their bread and butter.
IMO i think where SWTOR fell short ESO will excel. first of all you can do all the pve content on one character so you are not forced to make alts (even though i didn't personally mind that)
second, by the time you do reach end game you have only completed a fraction of the pve content, unlike in SWTOR when you have to either roll an alt or search for something to do like instance grinding or shitty pvp, which brings me to my third and most important point....
the pvp seems waaaaay better in ESO than it was in SWTOR giving it yet another thing to do at endgame while waiting for more content.
the only unknown is the adventurer zone/ raid content. i think ESO could suffer in that department but as long as they focus on new content it doesn't have to be raid content, as long as it is fun and you can continue to progress your character.
A safe bet for a dedicated player trying to theorycraft a build pre-launch would be 230ish. This assumes that you are doing everything. If you prefer to focus on playstyles, assuming 150ish is probably better. That still allows for a LOT.
Do you want to expand on that ... especially when it is a game based on horizontal progression through it's skill system promised to allow one to train all skills and add more skill trees often?
I think the idea behind the large number of points is to make use choose what to equip not what to acquire. I think it's great. Less cookie cutter builds and more experimentation. Will definitely add to the longevity of the game.
man if there are 300 points to get we will be able to do a lot of shit with one character.
i figured out i need about 75 to make an effective character without crafting or any extras.
now add another 225 skill points? crazy!
Maxing all crafting costs 139 skillpoints...
But then... getting all 300 skillpoints might be not as easy as you expect... i think most people will be happy with around 200 skillpoints at endgame..
And i also think that over time, there will be more skilltrees and options to spend more skillpoints in single skilltrees when they add more skills to them over time...
Personally i am building a single character..... A Templar..
healingstaff .. Bow, for ranged group healing -> 5 pieces light, 2 pieces medium
sword and board ... Healingstaff, For mellee healer -> 5 pieces light, 2 pieces heavy
sword and board... Sword and board, Tank -> 5 pieces heavy, 2 pieces light
To max 3 weapons, 3 class skills and 3 armor types out for maximum build flexibillity with this character, this will require
3x20 + 3x20 + 3x12 skillpoints thats 156 skillpoints.... add to that 24 skillpoints for each craft.... daunted, mages guild, Pvp trees, fighters guild, soul magic
And i dont think we will see that many characters with Max skillpoints, because maxing skillpoints might require an average player like 1000 hours of gameplay... and by then there will be more skillpoints and skilltrees added to the game..

6 - from master dungeons (assuming they work the same as regular dungeons)
50 - PvP levels (assuming each gives one and you don't start with the first level, then only 49)
10-20 - for quests
? - Veteran ranks? (unknown if they give points)
= 233 +
There will be much much more comming from quests i suppose... and maybe for finishing the adventure zones..
I also expect veteran levels to give a skillpoint..
In the end this only works if they keep updating the skilltrees with new abbilities, keep adding more skilltrees, while they are adding new content that gives even more Skillpoints...
If they do it right, this might be the only game where we don´t need an AA system.. it will be an ever evolving system
