A closer look at the upcoming territory/holding changes

Here is a overview of planned stuff that AV will implement to improve holdings and territory control:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1x0dfctzZUj5m6csE2XsHrTsZgvkzwhexb4RWZOFESSU/edit?pli=1

This will be epic and crushes all the circle raid castle games out there.

I'll be sold on this game when they introduce these changes, they look great. Adding more value to different holdings will be a game changer.

So. They are removing wilderness banks.

This should limit playstyles and freedom even more. Slow handclap.

I get the impression that all the devs for this game are griefers who couldn't give a sod for any other playstyle.

I bet they are the sort of idiots who wonder why their game is so unpopular.

Does anybody actually play this game anymore - apart from the devs?

I can shed a little more light on this, since I'm in the MVP forums.  I got two things confirmed yesterday, but keep in mind all of this is subject to change.

    a)  The AoI control points will be Cities, Hamlets, Villages and the two sea towers.  Which totals 108 AoI puzzle pieces.

    b)  The AoI buffs will vary across the world.  Some will be better than others.

    c)  The AoI buffs will only extend 50% to your alliance members, and 100% to the controlling clan.  This is something I'm fighting as I feel that it should be 100% extended to alliance members otherwise the smaller clans will disband and merge into the larger clan.

    d)  The AoI puzzle map overlay will, for example, when you open it for the first time, show your clans AoI area as green, your alliance in blue and give you the option of setting the colours of yours and all of the other clan AoI's.

The AoI overlay should be released fairly soon.  AV will add the buffs in a separate patch, but who knows, that could change.

I always laugh when someone thinks that people dislike Darkfall because of the PvP and not because it is run by the worst company ever.

Actually thousands play this game but people don't give it a chance and can't look pass how the devs are due to them being indie.

The proliferation of chaos banks has caused many problems with UW, mainly the removeal of most of the risk v reward in any and all sorts of resource acquistion including the best spawns in the game and map running.

It still will hurt soloers/small clans badly by removing one of the very few options they still had left. No more operating from/gearing up in the wilderness, operating from safe zone will be all that's left for non zerglings.

But that was to be expected since the new course for DFUW is clearly about building zergs by removing all the single player/small group options from the game. Personally I prefer some freedom/choice in a game, but I guess the player base is too small to allow that much freedom.

There are still options for soloers/small clans. They aren't removing ALL the chaos banks/bindstones. They are removing a "good chunk." DFO barely had any wilderness banks and very few chaos cities and it was possible to do all your farming and leveling from the banks and bindstones that existed in the wilderness. The difference is, with less banks, people can exert their will on you IF the territory you are operating in "belongs" to them.

It's not just about most chaos banks/bindstones being removed. It's also about small clans not being able to have hamlets anymore because these gonna be needed by the bigger clans for area control. It's about the region limited resources which will be unaccessible to non zerglings. Not being in the ally that controls a area will also give you the buff disadvantage. So me it seems obvious that the game is being changed to require a zerg for most content. And I don't really have any doubts that this hurt solo players/small clans a lot.

The game changes the focus and we'll see where that will lead us. I just hope my bad experiences with other pvp oriented titles like L2 (Erica server) where such changes lead to a single ally ruling the whole server uncontested for years while the rest of the server quitted won't repeat themselves.
