I posted a thread yesterday and now can not find it = so if this does end up being a duplicate I am sorry.
We are moving to Ecuador in one month. I need a good gaming laptop to take with. We will be sending a container but it will take at least a month to arrive. My "rigged out" PC will be in the container.
I am looking for advice for a 17" screen Gaming laptop (could settle for a 15" ) we will be using it as a TV until container arrives.
I have been reading reviews with features etc. Now I am confused as to what would be the best buy? I want to keep it under $1000.00 so this will eliminate a lot of the Alienware type!
Any suggestions or help would be Most Appreciated! Thanks in advance. - Pam

To make sure that I understand you:
You already have a gaming desktop, which is your primary gaming machine. You also have a television. However, it is going to take a month to get them shipped to Ecuador, and you'd like to have both a gaming system and a television in the meantime, so you want a laptop that can handle both duties. After the month passes, the laptop will only be used for typical laptop uses, and not for gaming or as a television.
Is that correct?
Thanks for the reply!
Yes and No = I will continue to play games on the laptop - our guest room will be my office so if someone comes to visit I will still want to use the laptop. More than likely it will NOT be used as a TV again.
Also - when we travel I will want to take the laptop with me. So will still want to "have" my games.
Hope that answered your questions? Pam

Depending on how you feel about open box systems, there's this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834198034R
That basically features AMD's top of the line laptop hardware on both the CPU and GPU side. The GPU is very powerful as laptops go, but AMD's best laptop CPU is decent but not great.
There's also this:

Kind of a goofy hardware configuration, and the biggest drawback is the glacially slow 5400 RPM hard drive. But a quad core Haswell CPU together with a GeForce GTX 760M is pretty powerful laptop hardware for the price.
