I remember reading in a post about the guy who play everquest and commited suicide. Some of my DAOC guildies were asking about the coverage on TV. I remember someone posted the link of the show that reviewed his life, interviewed his parents and interviewed other EQ players.
Anyone know this link?
Thanks

There's a few stories that are funny but true.
A guy who broke into a house fell into a glass table and cut himself and sued... he won.
This happened to my friend... He was at a red light trying to take a right turn... (no problem there) A ambulence was coming (with it's lights on) without any sirens... he turned on red and crashed into the ambulence... he sued and won...
Good thing no one was really bad in the back of the ambulence and died.... This country (U.S.) has many many issues.

2 other incidents that have occured and been reported.
1)a man that locked his baby up in a locker because he was busy in a "raid" and child was making too much noise.
Game was not named but pretty sure it was EQ.Child died.
2)woman that threw her baby because she "died" in game due to distraction of child crying.Result broken arm.
Game not named. No idea which game that might be.
What do all this people including the chap that killed himself have in common.Mental problems.
Mother of sucide vistim said in that article from CNN that he had been having mental problems before.
Truth is game does not kill or make them do bad thigs its a pre exisiting problem that just got triggered when they were playing.
The guy that locked up the child could have been watching a porn film and done the same.Blame the porn film?
Woman could have cut her finger in kitchen when child was screaming and still thrown the child.Blame the knife company?
Sucide chap could have asked a girl out and she laughed "what a ugly geek".Blame the girl?
I know people that regularly play 12 hours a day and they might be jobless, they might have no life, they might be worthless but they have their wits with them and would not dream of doing this.
I myself cannot play so long simply because i get sick after a few hours play(no not eplitpic but do suffer from migranes once in a while).
My record was in 2001 when velious came out for EQ and I lead the one of the first raid in my server for the plane of growth.
It was an attempt to clear the plane (minus tunare) and due to fact the zone was bugged,it took us a few hours to stop dying until we realised a non kos bard was what we needed for pulls(all were used to monk pulls),GM had to rest the zone because it literally froze.
So I lead a 20 hour raid (did not succeed in clearing zone ,if anyone cares that is hehe) and feel sick for rest of weekend .
So even when i am not working I can't play more then 4 hours a day
wow...that was a good statement...why is evryone blaming the mmo's?
just because they are games?
i see whre ur heading, it's a good argument

People are blaming the games because it's a "new" arena people have gotten into to sue... (That's one idea)
Just like in the 1980s when D&D was big and people where killing themselves when their characters died... blame D&D, yes... tons of people do. My 13 year old cousin can not read any Harry Potter books because her mom says it teaches witch craft and talks about the devil... So who do you blame there if her grades start to go down? The author?
I see where people are going... I forget what song it was, I think it was in an Eminem song... if you get in trouble, or pull the trigger of a gun and kill yourself, just blame me... It's not the games, music or any other thing that's making these people do this, as stated above - these people have mental issues and their parents DO NOT want to face that problem, so they blame the companies...

Ya, its pathetic, people will sue over anything these days, and the judges are morons and actually let them win. Read one article of a guy that broke into a house, (was stealing from them) he went into the garage, the door locked behind him, the garage door wouldnt open. He had to live off of like dog food and diet coke or something for 5 days. Sued the garage door company, i believe won. Or the case of a lady tripping over a baby in a store, sued the company. Oh, btw, the baby was hers.
Anyhow, as for games causing people to commit suicide, c'mon, if they were going to do it over something that small. They were already on the edge. They needed serious help.

Yep, but you gotta realise it not just America, good old Oz is getting the same way. I remember growing up playing D&D in the State of New South Wales. A kid who used to play D&D in the state of Queensland killed himself after his PC died in a module. They banned D&D (books, manuals and games etc) in that State for three years or more. THey even tried it in New South Wales.
More recently, today a decision was handed down by a court in Australia. claimant killed a girl when he was suffering from a drug/alcohol psychosis that he had been getting treatment for from a psychiatric hospital. The parent received $5,000 compensation under our Victims of Crime Legislation. No problem there, except the figure is low for a life. Anyway, now about 6 years down the track the perpetrator has successfully sued the mental hospital for $25,000 for pain and suffering. The cause of action... the hospital let him out too early and this allowed him to be in the position to kill the girl. He suffered pain and suffering after committing the crime. COME ON!! How does this work! I am very familiar with the legal argument, however it still does not sit well with my idea of life, the universe and everything!

Problem is there are way too many lawyers around.
What do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of an ocean?
Scroll down.
A good start.

What the article just happens to leave out is the age of the son.
He is 21.
He can buy a drink. I think he is old enough to play EQ. He probably lived at home with his mother, didn't go to college, didn't have a job.

"plans to push Sony to put warning labels on their games."
Warning, playing this game can cause epileptic seizures, and in certain cases, suicide.
