Yes Im not very happy with the fact that we HAVE to start with a sword now. I also wish they'd give you the choice for the starter islands beforehand, I liked them, now I have to go find some NPC to take me there image very immersion breaking to me.

Though I haven't seen it, I highly doubt you will have to look very hard for that NPC. It will either be right in front of you as soon as you leave Coldharbour, or it will run up to you, something like that...so I wouldn't worry too much.

    I certainly hope so image!

Then again, maybe they will change it again before release and actually give you the choice of where to go.....city or starter area. They have shown that they listen to their playerbase.

I'm just not sure who they are listening to anymore. As soon as one group whines, another group chimes in with the opposite lol.

Cannot understand the move away from choosing your weapon. Why would I pick something I don't want?

Shortening/skipping  the starter zone doesn't bother me, I like searching around for items, but that weapon choice removal is an awful move. Change it back.

I'll be curious to see what reactions people give to this. Personally I think they are very positive due to the following:

    1) A shorter Intro with less running through empty screens.

    2) More interesting spawn toward the end.

    3) Option to skip Starter Islands if people choose to.

What may be negative or positive to some is the fact that they got rid of the weapons rack so you start with only a sword. I'm thinking some people may not like that because you don't get to play with your weapon of choice right from the get go. The other folks may say that he mentioned "increased drops" so that you will most likely get something relatively quickly with a more suitable weapon of interest. I think its a good change, as here you are running out of prison. Its more realistic to have to figure out how you get your weapon of choice either through drops or one of the vendors once you get out to the main towns. Also, it immediately forces folks to realize they can play with any weapon right off the bat.

Now in Oblivion's tutorial before you left the sewer, they did let you try each weapon to figure out what you like, so that was a good way to handle it too, but I imagine MMOers would mostly want to skip that anyway.

I also noticed he disarmed a trap by pushing E. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I just feel disarming traps should be a little more challenging than that. Regardless overall I think these are all good changes.

    Your thoughts?

It is not blocked. You probably just have to be logged into YouTube or some age verification or something. I see it fine.

wouldent call it lucky to play through the game x number of times checking so it works for all the other people when it release lucky, i would be burn out and not be able to play the released polished version sadly....
  • jacktorsjacktors Member UncommonPosts: 180
That actually makes a lot of sense, Lokberg.  I guess all that testing would burn me out. But the nice thing, is that the game will be out within 4 weeks if there are no delays.

Firstly, I think it makes more sense immersion wise, to not allow players to be able to pick up any weapon in the game in the tutorial.  How realistic is it really for every type of weapon in the game to be just lying around for the soul shriven to pick up and rebel?  Not at all, if you think about it.

Not having your weapon of choice (provided you aren't a one-handed sword user) actually makes sense.  It allows you to try out what you find, if you are undecided.  It also pushes you towards NPC vendors, to see what they have.  Not only that, it pushes people towards crafting what they want to use.

They aren't saying you can't use something, they are just saying that you actually need to put in some effort to find it.  God forbid you actually have to put forth a little effort.  I think it's a cool change that makes a ton of sense, and it looks a lot better within the game.

In single player ES games, how often does the first weapon you pick up match your end game desires?  Rarely.

    Fits the game better IMO.

Im guessing they removed being able to pick your weapon at the start due to the bug a lot of people got that wouldnt allow them to pick up a weapon and thus couldnt progress any further. Happened to me.

Maybe this was easier than trying to fix it. They had to give me a new beta key cause my account was screwed, couldnt even remake characters because the bug remained.

Weird, never heard of that one.  At this point, maybe it makes more sense to change it the way that they did, than to put serious effort into fixing a game-breaking bug only weeks away from launch.

It's also better than a ranged weapon for teaching blocks and interrupts and showcasing the new collision detection with NPCs.

Still doesn't look very fun to me. Just my opinion though, and I sincerely hope all those that enjoy ESO continue to do so for a long time.

The new method with the weapons does make more sense, narratively speaking, I just don't like it because I had already gotten used to the old way and liked that.  I'm sure I'll adjust though, and if I had been asked which option made more sense prior to having played through the experience, I would have said the new one.

why is it these days you have to sign up to a thousand crappy social media type things to be able to see anything on the net?

Many reasons, So the system can get collection information about what you do, sell it to a company that creates behavioral profiles about you, then make recommendations for prospective employers about the "character" of your employability, also target ad revenue; and have a database the FBI can subpoena, lots of money....

Only thing you have to do is put 2 and 2 together as to why the system does anything, can this make money if it is done? (Yes) is it illegal? (No)  then why are they not doing it now? (They already are)

Just use same logic and it explains pretty much everything in society

I bet if they are not, then you better if you have the capital to start doing so, hire some behavioral psychologists, sociologists from some ivy league schools, a few lawyers  and your made....

Never played any ES games, single player RPG don't interest me. Played a few mmo's though, and this is the arena that ESO is in.

It maybe fits the single player ES game, so they should leave it there.

Many things have had to be changed in recognition of the "O" suffix on the end of this title - and the original choose your weapon was one of them. But now forcing a choice of something you don't want is ridiculous.

    Love the changes.

Also as much as I liked the ability to chose any starting weapon, it just didnt even sit right with me. I mean yes I get that your breaking out of a prison, but its a god-damn DAEDRIC PRISON!!!

I doubt you would stand around making choices about which weapon to chose, with Molag Bal on your heels...

I liked the starter islands and am sad to see them being skipped in the storyline.  I think I'd rather them just added an option at the closest waypoint to zone to the capital city for those who wanted it skipped.
