The devs say they will have new content every 4-6 weeks, RIFTS devs did this and that game went FTP quickly. ESO has a lot more hype behind it but it will probably end up being free to play eventually. I think the devs will do this for a year but in 2015 the updates will stop every 4-6 weeks and a huge expansion will probably come out late 2015 instead. Even then, I don't think new content will save this game, I rather play Skyrim mods.
This is a very PVE centric mmo, once all the content is finished most people won't go back to it. Even though PVP is a big aspect of this game, that will also get repetitive. As soon as 50 keeps are taken it will seem like an endless zerg grind. It is a 2000 player cap in Cryodiil so the pvp in this is basically a fantasy version of Planetside 2. The problem is, Planetside 2 is not repetitive and has more gameplay variety and immersion. ESO's pvp will get old quickly, it is a cross between realism and arcade gameplay and it feels sort of clunky. Still, the pvp is probably great, I should not judge since I haven't reached level 10 (level you can start pvp) yet and don't think I will since I didn't sleep last night and I don't really like playing games when I didn't sleep.
It obviously has better gameplay than darkfall unholy wars. I don't think there will ever be a fantasy mmo that has gameplay as good as this, first person view and action like gameplay that is very strategic,
The problem is after 2-3 months of fighting in Cryodiil, the game will get VERY VERY repetitive with the pvp aspect. They need to release a pvp patch in the coming months so people can world pvp all over the world.
I'm still in a big dilemma if I wanna pre-order or not. I would really wanna play as Imperial. The problem is I am already dedicated to playing Star Trek Online and Planetside 2, playing 3 MMO's at one time for me, I would have to neglect one.
Still, I feel like this game would end up being a pve elder scrolls experience since the PVP seems like it would get boring quick, even if it does have good gameplay, the pvp is still repetitive in nature. In a game like planetside 2, there is a lot more variety with weapons, vehicles, aircraft, robotic suits, vastly different situations always happen when you are assaulting or defending against the enemy.
ESO is just zerg the keep, take it, hold it. REPEAT. REPEAT. Every enemy keep has a very similar layout and keeps are the most important buildings to take. The Terrain in Cyrodiil also doesn't have much variety, this game looks like it will get old quick. It may seem fun now but I remember when I first played world of warcraft, I was hooked on playing for 3 months and thought this was the best game I ever played, 4th month and I quit. Also went back to it and those other 2 times I did, ended up quitting within 3 months. I fear this game will be the same.
