I realize this won't be statistically meaningful, but I'm curious if there will be any surprises.
In your real life circle of friends, which MMORPGs are popular (still played regularly)?
For those I know, it's mostly LOTRO, Aion, and a couple private servers that I can't mention.
Comments
WOW, Mortal Online, and Planetside 2.
The folks I know play lots of MMOs but these are the ones that they didn't just play a month and drop forever.
Well:
Wargame friends are playing: Everquest classic server and LOTRO. 2 play world of tanks as well.
Roleplayers: Rift (they were playing warhammer online until it closed). Also some world of tanks.
one married couple still plays wow.
one married couple plays GW2 with their 2 children.

WoT
For the people I actually play games with.
In the community I'm part of SWTOR wins by a land slide. They normally have 50+ people a night on voice and I have no idea how many in game.
must be cool. but dangerous. you would probably play too much and have no other hobbies :-)
some are still in wow, others in anarchy- online .. some are doing warframe and trying all the new ones, got a group planning to play ESO, but i honestly am tired of wow clones.. it gets so boring to keep playing the same game..
I play rift sometimes because its one of the best wow clones and secret world because its really good and less clone, eso seems like a crappy wow/rift with lineage/GW2 pvp clone.
ff xiv is nice if u havent played wow since its basically another clone, with some inovation on skills and professions plus the typical ff style single player story cinematics.
so overall all my friends love mmos but we really cant find one that gathers us all because non are as good as the old ones we played: lineage, anarchy online and Wow.
One of my kid plays LoL. One has moved passed video games.
MMORPGs are not popular in my circle.
Myself and a another buddy play Dark Age of Camelot, another comes and goes and keeps buying all kinds of games to play. The other couple I know of keep hopping from beta to beta and never really settling on anything. They just seem to be searching.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
A few playing Eve, but none of them are very active (who is, really?). Few peering towards Wildstar. The jury is still out.

Everyone here played City of Heroes until it was so ungraciously murdered.
One couple made a try at Lotro, but that played out. A couple of folks are prepping for ESO. Another group plays Warframe a bit, but that's about it. An additional subset is trying out things like Pirate 101 and Starbound.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

I only have one friend who plays an mmo (a friend in my day to day life as opposed to friends who I have met online but only see a few times a year if that) and he plays WoW.
and is is a relatively recent convert to that game (maybe a year or two.)
