Certainly good reading, the addition of Ventures and Gardening, along with increase in Gear level and Crafting Masterclass will keep people busy for longer now

Changing provision rewards from company seals to fc credits combined with outfitting your retainers for ventures, its going to be a seller's market for the next couple months at least. The fc credits for provision turn ins basically turns crafted gear into a consumable. Amazing how one small tweak can add another layer to the economy.
How are you guys liking it so far? How long are the new quest lines?
I get the impression that for what I like about FFXIV, this patch added all of about a week or two of content for me so I'm probably going to wait to come back. I mainly enjoy the quest lines, and I was disappointed that my character completely ran out of quests the last time I played. Basically all I had left was grinding CT for gear upgrades or grind repeatable quests (FATEs/leves) to level alt classes, and I'm a little burnt out on that from other MMOs.
It wouldn't be such a chore to level up alts or secondary class combos if they gave decent XP for killing stuff and exploring nooks and crannies. Wrapping the majority of XP into questing is killing the game for me. I'd love to find an MMO that lets you level up multiple ways and any combination of those ways without making you feel like you're watching paint dry.
Patch comes out Thursday, can't wait. As a player who does not do dungeons or raids, I am finding that I have more than enough fun and rewarding activities to do. Even more when the patch lands. This is the best mmo I have played since swg. My only real want is for some truly massive areas to explore.
With such subjective experiences, the developers have no way of ever meeting said expectations.
How is the current XP not "decent"? Where is the line drawn? Someone's "decent" is someone's "paint drying".
For the MMO population the fact is that anything that isn't the best is "not enough". Sadly there will always be "the best way" which everyone will spam. The rest is "like watching paint dry".
Personally I received 25% of my remaining exp at level 49 by exploring everything there was left for me. I did the dailies and I did the duty roulette. I did some FATE's and guildleves. Oh, I did do some quests too.
The lack of "leveling content" is 10% lack of leveling content and 90% negative attitude to "I get 5% less exp this way so it sucks" content.
I personally don't care about the amount of experience, speed of progress, and all that. I just want more of the content I find fun which are the unique quest lines.
MMOs like Everquest are made on the idea that you'll never run out of quests to do and I might go back to that for awhile. I prefer the combat and style of FFXIV, but I'm just out of content I want to play. I was pretty surprised how quickly I ran out of unique quests in FFXIV. I've only played it a few months. They're good quests. I just want more of them.
I hate the whole idea of repeatable/grindable quests and dungeons unless it's to progress the story as in single player RPGs. Unfortunately it seems like developers have to resort to repeatable grind content just to appease people that want to race to level cap and skip most of what was created. Maybe I'll just stick with my old fashioned MMOs before leveling speed and endgame junkies took over the genre.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Yeah everyone seems to be doing the start of the relic weapon quest, and it's hilarious because you have all these maxed out ppl in starting zones grinding fates, and the /shout channel has been entertaining lately. =P
I still enjoy the game, and I'm glad they made the relics a little bit more time consuming to complete. The FATE portion is ok. The part that makes me a little upset is the Tomes of Mythology required. 13,500 tomes will take a very long time to gather, especially when players who aren't decked in the best raid gear need to spend a lot of the same exact tomes on the gear to get into end game content. Add in the fact that many (if not all) players play multiple jobs, you are looking at 100s of thousands of Tomes of Mythology.
I never liked the concept of tokens that you can trade for gear, but never had too much of a problem as it was usually a fairly short grind for them. In this case though, it's kind of sickening.
This is to upgrade the relic beyond zenith, its still the same quest to get relic. They lifted weekly cap on myth and everything that drop philo stones before is now myth stones. Alot more quest reward myths stones, daily rouletter give bonus myth stones. And Coil T1-5 can be done as many times as u want in a week and you dont have to go in order or anything. So instead of getting the myth stones gear you can get equally or better gear depending on slot and job from these dungeons. Its not that much as you make it out to seem
Dang, your link does not work.
The game is a good mix of other games and quality graphics but it is no way a FF game from old.
This game is just more of the same style they forced onto FFXI when everyone started to get upset and leave. You would THINK they paid attention but apparently whoever is making the decisions, does not pay attention.
From level 1+ they need MORE of EVERYThING from spells to abilities character customization/stats,they need that 2 hr ability from FFXI or better yet as a 1hr ability. They need to make the sub classes completely open to ALL choices because the choices you get are meaningless in 90% of the cases.
There is nothing like in the FFXI days where everyone would enjoy subbing Ninja for it's powerful shadows. This game seems to have everything completely shut off and limited so every player feels identical. You get 150 potency ,each class type weapons are near identical for damage rating ect ect.
Gear leveling is a really lame idea about the worst idea i could think of to create longevity and grind,it offers nothing new to the experience. Then each tier of battles is tied into the gear rating,it is no longer about player skill and wise choice of abilities and spells it is just gear rating. The premise for game play is identical to Wow,again a REALLY bad idea to copy,Wow does nothing exciting or FUN.
I do NOT think this Yoshi guy is making the decisions because this type of game design happened way back in Abyssea BEFORE Yoshi was even around,he is imo just a puppet and a face for the public.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Really enjoying the patch. As expected, the economy has swung to a sellers market and there is a lot of gil being thrown around. I'm happy with the basement that was added to my small house and gardening is very well thought out and fun.
The requirements for getting the top tier gathering mats is steep. I will focus on botany for now. Same with the new crafting recipes and stats I will focus just on leatherworker for now. Pretty hefty timesinks which is nice since everyone can be everything, it forces you to choose one or two to focus on rather than all at once.
The new dances and emotes are great especially the sitting ones. Retainer ventures are more involved than I thought heh. I will get around to outfitting a retainer after I finish up with the 9 other things I'm working on haha.
All in all one of the best mmorpgs I've played. Really good non combat activities so far. The crafting is a close second to swg and the economy has tons of layers and niche markets to track. It is one of the better ones I've been a part of.
Hope they keep up the great work!
games boring after 2.2. the baby mode where you get crazy buffs when your party wipes made fights an absolute bore. we were doing titan HM for some members of the guild who didnt have their relic yet. we expected a few wipes since they were new to titan HM. what i didnt expect was these crazy ass buffs that turned titan into a wimp. we wiped once, and that first buff alone was enough to make the fight super boring and uninteresting.
im still amazed at how much game developers feel the need to really dumb crap down and the great demand for it. 3.0 is gonna let you hit one lady bug and get instant lvl 50 and all bis ilvl400 gear.
Yes I was sad they made it so that the 2.1 content was easier.
2.2 fights don't have these mechanics in place.
If you want the hardest content you always gotta do the cutting edge stuff, the developers feel that people who haven't hit those bosses down by the time new content rolls around they should 'have a right' to see the new content in some form.
If they didn't have this right, then what are they paying 15 bucks a month for? I mean honestly a big chunk of that would be for Binding Coil in a lot of players minds.
I'm enjoying the patch so far. I've been approaching it somewhat casually though - been doing Ventures, Beastmen Dailies, Daily Roulettes mostly. Once I knock those out I try to find PF groups farming older turns of Coil for gear and do that for an hour or two. I tend to end my play session with maybe an hour or two of FATE grinding for Atma. I'm not going at the Zodiac weapons hardcore like a lot of folks.
Since the patch, I've gotten 4 or 5 pieces of gear from Coil, gotten my two retainers over level 20 from doing Ventures and obtained 6 Atma. I haven't touched anything regarding the new crafting items or recipes yet, apart from doing some Glamours. I've also completed the main story and Hildibrand side quest and done the associated fights with those.
Right now I'm trying to form a static group so I can get T5 down and start progressing on the new content. (Coil2, Leviathan Ex, Moogle Ex)
