I've got zero issues with Gamestop. They get me my games ON TIME which is more than I can say for BB, Target, Walmart, or any of the other stores around here. They also carry my eclectic titles that are rarely found elsewhere (like Sorc Saga).
That being said, I am a big spender there but my CE's all get bought from BB anymore. 20% off on the gamers club I paid $30 for is a dream discount. Brought the Physical Imp down to the Digital Imp price. Good enough for me.
If you're nice, the manager might offer some help. That's the best I can tell you.
Besides, 5 days, 3 days, who cares... It's not a rush to the end :-)
Gotta love all these busy bodies talking about getting the police involved over this issue. Jesus Christ.
I work as an escalations officer for a large wagering company, basically I deal with priority accounts that spends hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions of dollars with our company, attempting to resolve any issues they may have.
I refuse to file complains for customers all the time, I tell them no, you're just being silly, and I will point them in direction of the rules. Even things that dont occur within the confines of the rules, rarely do I ever have to back down or allow the customer to have their way. The OP absolutely had every right to complain, but to think that companies are entitled to listen to and acknowledge consumer complaints is just false. 3rd party organizations like the BBB or an ombudsman will exclusively side with the company if the dispute is even vaguely covered under the most obscure set of rules or regulations.
Quite frankly to the guy saying he'd sue and all that, you havent the slightest idea what you're talking about.
While I will say sueing Gamestop over 2 days of game time is a bit crazy imo, making complaints with your local Attorney General and BBB are well within your rights. I had an issue with Microsoft when my Xbox 360 died within the first hour of bringing it home after waiting in a line at Walmart for 12 hours on release day. I called Mircosoft that morning and the CS of Microsoft was informing me it would be about at minimum a month to get my Xbox fixed and returned or replaced, I told them I would be reporting them to the BBB and the NY Attorney General. I had UPS at my door the next morning at 10 am with a new Xbox and a shipping label to ship the defective one back. Squeeky wheel gets the oil.

Some of you people just do not get it. It is something called principle. Would you let someone walk up and punch you in the face and do nothing? No you break their fucking nose or call the cops depending on what type of person you are. If the pre order bonus says 5 days early access then he should receive 5 days early access. It is really not that hard to understand. By the way in case you can't tell, I am the type that breaks the persons nose.

I agree, but after 4 hours on the phone, and no help. I just gave up, esp after he lied to me and send me a fake code in my email. That Zin says is a fake code. I just bought one from ebay for 5 bucks, and sent a complaint to the bbb, not that they will do anything. As said i would have to go to texas, so i would just rather pay 5 bucks lol.
Well for all of you who say the BBB is worthless, here you go. MESSAGE FROM BUSINESS:
Dear Michael,
Thank you for contacting GameStop.com!
On behalf of Gamestop.com, we apologize for this poor experience in association with our company.
We have processed the refund for order . The transaction ID for your refund . Please allow up to 3 business days for your account to reflect the funds.
If you have additional questions, we are here for you. You can respond to this email, or if you prefer to speak to someone directly, you can reach us 7 days a week 8am – 8pm at 800-883-8895.
I work as an escalations officer for a large wagering company, basically I deal with priority accounts that spends hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions of dollars with our company, attempting to resolve any issues they may have.
Here is a fine example, a person who works for a huge company.....
I refuse to file complains for customers all the time, I tell them no, you're just being silly,
Someone who does not help their customers Satisfaction when something is wrong.
and I will point them in direction of the rules. Even things that dont occur within the confines of the rules, rarely do I ever have to back down or allow the customer to have their way.
Doesn't help a customer even when legally obligated to. Reason #1 to sue a company right here folks.
The OP absolutely had every right to complain, but to think that companies are entitled to listen to and acknowledge consumer complaints is just false.
Proof the company does not listen, so you should MAKE them listen and SUE THEM.
3rd party organizations like the BBB or an ombudsman will exclusively side with the company if the dispute is even vaguely covered under the most obscure set of rules or regulations.
Each time the company does not resolve a complaint in a customers eyes, they get downgraded. Never do business with a company less then an A unless you want to get this guy as your customer service.
Quite frankly to the guy saying he'd sue and all that, you havent the slightest idea what you're talking about.
I like the last line... Its employees like you that I had to deal with on a daily basis that made me sue the crap out of companies and get my resolve through the court system instead of though you.. Thank you for your advice and standing up for companies who screwed the OP and other people, but just know, every time you screw a customer there is a customer like me who will sue your ass and help the owner of the business start laying people like you off, at the very least, make the owners or CEO wonder who the hell they should fire over their loss of profit.
I had something similar happen with Age of Conan when I preordered it years ago at Gamestop. I had issues getting my codes and it certainly wasn't delivered on time. I did eventually get it, but not when I should have. Since then, I tend to digitally purchase everything (through Amazon or Steam usually) except many PS Vita games because of how expensive memory is, of which I order exclusively through Amazon. Amazon also has a much larger selection of games I can preorder than Gamestop, including Japanese Imports.
I like the people who work at Gamestop too (at least years ago before I stopped going), but I just don't trust them to deliver on preorders and I just find it more convenient to order online. I can see how it's a poor situation for the OP though, as even though I'm not going to purchase TESO because I have poor opinions of the game, that physical Collector's Edition is actually very nice and seems like a good value to me. Have you thought about maybe trying Amazon? They are usually good about delivering digital codes on time and you'll get the physical copy the day of release if you preorder.
People only need to read the first page to realize you should never use gamestop for any videogame involving bonus items, preorders, or any thing you might really expect to be time sensitive. Actually you'll want to use Best Buy for the smoothest ride during these times. Amazon is number 2, but they make mistakes sometimes too, nowhere near as unprofessional as Gamestop though. gamestop is probably the bottom of the barrel.

YMMV...
My Best Buy has repeatedly screwed me out of preorder items. They've messed up my preorders. They've messed up my CEs (ie.. screwed up my TF CE preorder so bad, they ended up giving me a $30 regular edition). I still do my CE's through BB for the discount but throwing generics out there is unnecessary.
ALL things of ANY kind are not bad. I'm sure there's some good ones, and some shit ones, for everything.
I have ONE Gamestop, the manager knows me. I know ALL the employees. I know most of their families and when they transfer I try to keep track.
There are 2 others in the area that I could give a flying rats about. One of which is NOTICIBLY closer to me. But I go in there and they treat me like a criminal (mind you, I typically buy new games once a week, once every other week.. etc.. based on whats coming out). NTY. My current Gamestop, I throw in preorders to help their numbers. They make sure I get my preorder stuff and when I call in they typically tell me if something new is happening that I'd probably be interested in.

soon as they said they did not have your 5 day code that you paid for should have demanded your money baack, it is a illegal to charge you for something then not give it to you, you are well withen yoour right to demand your money back.
Problem is, he wont get his physical collectors edition then, and after launch people will sell them for 3 times the amount you would have paid for it normally. These game stop employees know that. That is why they screwed him like they did. You cannot find a physical edition anywhere that's not sold out right now.
Can't feel sorry for the guy. He admitted he had heard of other people having problems and because he didn't personally have a problem, he dismissed it. So he make a choice and got burned. LOL.

They didnt run out of codes, people who ordered from the ESO main website got 5 days early access, people who ordered from 3rd party retailers got 3 day access in order to slowly bring players in as apposed to all at once. They posted it somewhere on their main page. You didnt get bamboozled you just didnt read the fine print.
Blame the retailer not Zenimax lol. They did a bate and switch which is illegal. Gamestop screwed me too I just got my refund and bought from esoonline.

Not if you buy the Imperial Edition. All Imperial Editions are 5 days early access.
Yup, it is a very good deal for those that can budget a few extra dollars. If the 5 days is the most important thing to you, the two cheapest options are the digital standard from Zenimax and the Imperial version from Greenman. The Greenman Imperial is only 5 dollars more than the Zenimax digital standard.
