Ok, I have been watching Sword Art Online and the idea of Skill levels was awesome, i remember playing Mortal Online (Which is pretty much the right idea) and loving it, along iwth mabinogi, which is a great game too.
Any others in mind with them?
Thanks

A lot of Asian MMOs have similar systems. Level up a character and level skills as well. I don't play them because they are intentionally grindy and have cash shop scams, usually.
Elder Scrolls will have a skill point system for increasing the potential of most abilities.
FFXI did it all, tons of leveling systems, different currencies, you level every class on the same player, other developers are just light years behind, just now starting to catch on.
Of course it is grindy, that is what a rpg SHOULD be,your not living the life of a character in 2 weeks then think grinding some lame end game is a rpg.People in real life don't hit a level /age cap then grind stuff, they keep living out their life until they die, that is why levels are just dumb, skills much better represent role playing.
Sticking with FFXI,they also understood that if your going to CLAIM to be a MMO ,you better play like one and they also did not give xp for doign errands or triggering quests, why?Well because that again has nothing to do with role playing a character.
I doubt we will see another FFXI because gamer's now don't want to play a rpg but instead they want arcade action or grind end game gear.It is extremely shallow gaming what i see now a days and people justify shallow gaming because they have voice overs or some so called story.Well rumor has it, story driven games have been around a Looooooooong time before now.
99% are not rpg's they are single player / Co-op theme park games with internet.Developers can't make a real rpg with all the systems because it would be too costly, they are not in this business to make us a great rpg,it is just business, whatever they can get away with selling, they will stick to it.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
