On various websites, while just about everyone was whining about the acquisition of OR by FB, I made the argument that while this buyout may severely damage the potential of the OR on PC games, and turn it into a mediocre device for the hardcore gaming crowd, I stressed that it would also spur serious competition, and cause already existing developments to come out of the woodwork and get some spotlight.
Here we go.

There's also a couple others that are little known but seem to have potential out there, but I'd have to do some serious digging to find them again since I don't follow them.

You can guarantee it. That announcement must have had all VR developers jaw dropped and wide eyed. Nine zeroes is a huge motivator to anyone with a related product, especially if they think the quality of their device can compete.
What interested me about the Totem is that you can switch to a sort of reality mode where you can see everything in front of you like a digital camera, and they intend to have augmented reality features to go with it. There's somebody who has already developed a simple augmented reality feature for the Rift developer kit, but the rift doesn't come with augmented reality as a feature.
I for one, would like to see a Jedi battle take place inside of my house, with all the impossible movements/jumping/force which become possible with this augmented reality. With that feature, creative content production has an entirely new avenue to develop and market. It's as simple as swapping your natural vision in front of you to the lense that streams live video of what's in front of you. For the augmented portion of it to work, you set up geometry markers around your room to overlay an invisible 3D landscape to cover the area you are in. Then you simply load programs within that 3D space, and it appears to be in front of you as if it were real and tangible. Augmented reality will mostly be used for porn, so I'm sure the potential consumer base is massive.
I am having a hard time understanding your point regarding Facebook and PC.
I understand and share the concern on the Facebook aspect of it but I am struggling to understand how it affects OR on the PC directly.
I mean the PC is going to be the perfered OR platform regardless of who does it and that is simply because of the hardware limitations on consoles
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Morpheus has limitations related to the hardware of the PS4 itself. PC platform does not have that issue.
PC can break the 1080p per eye barrier, PS4 can not
PC can improve FPS and speed.
Oculus might not be the company that brings it to the PC but its very clear that the PC will be the better plafform for VR
