Another sandbox bites the dust even before release.
EQN is all i got now for a AAA sandbox experince.
EQN is not a sandbox, it has restrictive classes and class specific equipment. That alone makes it a themepark, no matter what Smedley wants to call it.
Not good when a non fantasy MMO dies.
LOL restrictive classes OK buddy keep on with that thou.
What a waste, and sadder still they will fight anyone who tries to make a similar themed MMO, so we will never see Underworld Online or anything similar.
I love EVE and ccp are great developers, when i heard WoD was coming out and saw some videos released as teasers. the idea blew my mind and i was set on to wait for the game and any other information, after the small panel ccp had years ago i have not heard any news or updates of its progress. to hear this is sad, had so much potential and i have bad for the 50 people who lost their jobs, laid off. i hope they can recover and i know CCP will be more focus this time!
I liked VTMB very much, one of the best Action RPGs ever made, especially the early "Levels". Hoped WoD would capture that gameplay and bring it to the MMOrpg.
Dire times for CCP - to many wrong decision, EvE grown almost as big as possible, Star Citizen luring on the horizon.
Dire times...

NO WAY! obviosly they can make something good....C´mon they are good developers.
Giving up on a franchise they have just bought makes no sense at all.

Last year, CCP Games brought in 69M, mostly through Eve Online. Total operating expenses were 99M, meaning they actually lost about 29M. Of that 99M they spent, 56M went to "Research and Development."
Some probably went to Eve, but I imagine most went to Dust and WoD. With Dust failing pretty hard, and them not really being happy with the direction that WoD was taking, they probably decided to not risk having a second horrid year on the books, and instead cut their losses. Especially when the second game wasn't even sitting on solid ground in the first place.
Why am i thinking about a quote from Smedley about how EVE online is an excellent example of how that model can be successful or something along those lines?
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."
It's sad, but I think CCP realized that while Eve was a hit for them, Dust showed they didn't have much knowledge outside the bubble of Eve. Instead of wasting more resources and manpower on what could have been another turkey, they pulled back to focus on Eve and shore up Dust as much as possible.
And who knows, maybe when things turn around and they get a bit better outside of Eve, Maybe WoD will come and be a better experience than they could have delivered presently.

I believe this was due to their reaction to the upcoming sandbox mmos. WoD couldnt conpete with the new Sandbox concepts coming out now. EQN really push things back for many new MMOs like WoD and Titan. When info came out on EQN even Blizzard's Titan was pushed back.

Titan had nothing to do with EQN. Lack of any real vision for the product is what killed the project. I also suspect that a lot of the features that were meant for Titan, ended up getting rolled into WoW. Back when Titan was barely a rumor, WoW was still a hardcore raid-style game that, while casual friendly in a leveling sense, still required time commitment at the end-game.
Of the very few official tidbits that came out of the Titan dev's was mention that it was designed more for casual gamers, which led many in the community to fear it was some kind of Farmville competitor (this was back when Farmville was making massive headlines). Anyway, after Activision took over Blizzard, most of the hardline raid-or-die design philosophy fell to the wayside, and casual-friendly features started cropping up out of the blue. Almost as if they had been worked on for a while...
This is sad because I feel like CCP COULD HAVE had something very refreshing to bring to MMORPGs... I'm sure DUST is doing great with all the money that was spent on it instead though
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
Very sad news. WoD was the only MMO I was truly looking forward to. Great IP.
Unfortunately, despite CCP's protestations to the contrary, I think this outcome was inevitable. Too much silence for far too long - it was pretty apparent they did not know what they were doing with the development of this title.
Too bad. Would have loved to been immersed in that game world, and that will probably never happen now.
They'll never admit it, but WoD was killed because DUST 514 is a money-sucking flop, as most EvE players tried to warn them it would be when CCP first announced it.
The only ones I pity in this fiasco is White Wolf. They deserved better.
It was their company plan as a whole, and their fear of going against their fans to implement it that really caused this downward spiral. They were very much on a path to full on micro transactions in EVE, while bringing in new customers to eve (WIS) as well as a new direction with it. That plan fell through during the first stage with monoclegate. After that is was a downward spiral of cancellations. WHile the seeming failure of Dust definitely played into it all, it wasn't the only factor by far. It was also listening to their fans that put them in a financially bad situation. AT least in regard to how they planned to expand.

Yeah, yeah. People blame DUST, but I still have to see any reliable estimates on how much they are making/loosing on that game.
Amusing thing about this is the fact that just last week there were a few people trolling ESO threads saying things along the lines of "just wait until WoD comes it will blow this game away" etc.

Thanks fanboi, we get it, ESO is good. Now lets stay on topic.
Just another reason to dislike Smedley. He ruined SWG now he ruined WoD. Whats next?

So talking about people saying how awesome WoD is going to be, in a thread about WoD, isn't on topic? Interesting. Sounds like you must be one of the folks making those claims. No wonder you're angry. All your hyped up dreams were just crushed.
This is very sad news and unexpected too! I held high hopes for WoD and was crossing my fingers it would revive the staleness that runs rampantly unchecked with every 'new' and 'innovative' few MMO+ that we get these days.

Sad but expected and i rather have it this way then for them to release a half-arsed game that made nobody happy.
This have been a good conversation

Good...more development resources for EVE.
/evil grin
First we see the release of Dust 514, and now we see the cancellation of WoD.
Maybe CCP can take SoE's place as the blindfolded idiot that the gaming community takes whacks at with a stick
