For those who have played, does this review give us a true first impression or is this guy just hyping this up because he wants people to like it as much as he does ? He says at level 10 that what Wildstar for the most part does nothing new. You still go to quest hub to quest hub BUT he says at level 20 Wildstar does something that most mmos do not excel at. Those would be difficulty and personal achievement. Your thoughts ?

I feel exactly he same way you do. Tired of things being super easy with little to no effort. I'm an old fashioned mmoer. I do not like quick and easy. I do things the old fashioned way, I earn it through my hard efforts.
Nice find.
I think the game is going to be a sleeper hit. At launch there are going to be a ton of skeptics. Once the game has been out a bit and raid videos start to surface from popular guilds, I think its going to snowball. I think you will be seeing an extremely high population to WS.
here is a great written breakdown of the Game as well. It was written by the Guild Leader of our Wildstar Division.

They're building another wow...and I don't mean a wow clone.
If you're not sick of wow but just don't want to play it anymore I'm sure wildstar is going to be just want you're looking for. If the thought of playign wow again makes you feel sick, you'll hate this game.
It's not going to be a wow clone, but it willl have a lot in common with wow, including it's production value, polish and focus on fun.
I have 0 interest in the game but Id' recommend it to any of my friends if they were looking for what I listed above.
I've only played weekend betas, so I couldn't test as much of the game as I would have liked, but I did get myself to level 20.
I can't comment on content from 21 and up, but from 1-20, I would say the levelling experience was quite easy. You could make it 'harder' by trying to take on 4-5 mobs at a time / mobs 2-3 levels higher than you. I managed to solo 2-man group quests, but the 3-man ones were out of my reach. I also did not notice any zones with elite mobs (like Tyr's Hand in EPL in WoW) so you'll be able to explore most, if not all, of the map on your own.
You get most of your quests from the hubs, but there are also quest-giving npcs / objects scattered here and there which you will miss if you don't explore.
I got to experience my first dungeon at 20. And it was hard. Wipe after wipe after wipe. Theoretically, 'don't stand in red' should be easy, but it isn't just as simple as running out of the telegraph. Because skills are not auto-aim, it means your healer cannot simply click a name and press a button. They will be mostly keeping their direction towards the tank. So it is your job as dps to stay within the healing aoe as much as possible while maintaining damage output. Considering everyone is doing a lot of dodging and running around, it means no matter what role your are playing, you have to constantly be aware of other people's positions.
Everyone also has a sprint and dodge ability. I have found it is useful to consider when to use which. If you are closer to the edge of a telegraph, you may want to sprint out instead of dodging. That can save you dodges when you are in a bit of a pinch, like when you are unluckily caught in the middle of a huge telegraph and there is no way you are gonna run out in time.
I've only experienced introductory dungeon content. I don't know how much harder the later dungeons/raid content will be, but I'm fairly certain it will be no walk in the park.
You have to play it yourself. Friday starts the beta weekend. Play and make your own opinion not only for lvling but for many aspects of it. Personaly i love it, but thats me
I leveled to 50 during the beta as a warrior and it hands down beats the pants off ESO as a long term MMO.
Is it something you're going to play for six months? Probably not. I casual played it a few hours a week and hit 50 without any problem in less than a month. It falls to the same problem as Final Fantasy 14 at the end game. Fill your weekly cap with Elder Gems and go raid. PvP is largely 'filler' though you'll have some fun setting up and playing your warplots and things.
But the important question being is it going to be fun? Damn right it is. It's a stupid amount of fun and will consume you life. Until it doesn't anymore. I found the drop off to be extreme once capping out at 50.
I don't know i only have an opinion until lvl 15.
got into the secon area and was questing and more questing and some more. And well yeha im pretty much fed up with questing. I just got really annoyed with it. it did not feel any kind of special most mobs or groups even would die within my third skilluse.
i am just totally done with themeparks and wildstar could not hold my intrest at al. I stopped playing alltogether at level 15. realising that from what ive experience up to then it was the same shit all over again.
Now he says it drasticly changes from 20 and up. i could be. I just don't see that happening tho. It will still be the same setup the same boring questing until cap, and then raid?
Im just done with themeparks.
Agreed
I enjoyed the content up to level 20. I remember my first dungeon though at lvl 20. Honestly the most fun I have ever had in any MMO I have played.
We wiped probably about 18 times, it was glorious. This game truly makes you feel like you are actually getting better at playing, rather than just only better gear.
I just wish there were multiple leveling paths....and the lack of PvP Battlegrounds, two is not enough, unless I missed something.
Is it open beta?
Wildstar is not very popular at the moment but nobody can deny how good it plays and how challenging it is, not to mention its longevity. Nevermind the art style or lack of voice acting in quests, people have to see games for what they are and not for what they appear to be.
Having played most MMO's out there, Wildstar will surely be a huge hit, if not right away definately in the long term. I would prefer a less cartoony game, I will probably tone down the telegraphs a lot so they become barely visible, I would prefer a less goofy setting, I would even prefer voice acted and custscened sequences for all quests but this is a MMO.
As a MMO its meant to last and to be updated regularly. For that, a good developer team that is passionate about their game is crucial. If no voice acting means that its easier to introduce new content, then good. If cartoony goofy art style means the developers are more passionate about creating more stuff, then good.
What drew my attention when I first learned about Wildstar wasn't what the game looked like but getting to know Carbine and the kind of mentality that team follows to create a MMO. They know what is missing in the MMO genre, they are not afraid to grab the formula that worked before and improve on it. Actually improve on it, not just trying to meet the level of quality we've met before but actually surpassing it.
In my opinion they did it, the game plays great and for the first time I'm inclined to trust and like a developer team for the direction they give their game. Usually I play a MMO and say "Wow, this has great potential." and usually that MMO never reaches that potential. When I played Wildstar I felt "Wow, it's all here its hard to believe it." .
And the CREDD system? Making hardcore players being able to play for free if they manage it? It's a master's move. Hardcore players are the community's heart and also the game's minority of players. Considering the quality of the game they have in hands they could choose to go all out greedy sub fee model only and they don't. Even if people are not hardcore they can save up some in-game money for a month they want to skip real-money payment. For a genre that is known to suck a lot of money from its customers, its good to see a change even when they are so confident about their game's quality.
So far what I don't like about Wildstar is the lack of the human character customization, usually I don't give a crap about character creation but the human males diversity feels a bit short. Also the Esper flying lanterns heal animation, they clutter the screen in a battleground let alone in a 40-man raid.
Also the framerate could use improvements but I played in BETA and heard they are already optimizing the game. All in all, a great MMO with a great personality is coming our way, the genre was needing this.
Not yet, but they are running a beta weekend this weekend. You can get a key for yourself right on this site.
