[Preview] Rift: Bindings of Blood Readies the Beatdown for Players

Yesterday Trion launched Rift’s Bindings of Blood Tier 3 Raids, the brand new cutting edge (or bleeding) edge endgame content for Telara’s most ardent PVE players. These brand new 20-person raids will test the willpower of even the most dedicated Rift raiders, as on the PTS not a single guild was able to fell the two big bosses: Greenscale and Akylios.  Trion told us that one group did manage to drop Greenscale on the PTS, but that was weeks before the final version was put in... Bill Fisher and his team are confident it’ll be a different story on the live server, but players are always surprising them.

"There are some rather mysterious forces at work in Telara, and the raids send you back into the past to try and make sure that your forebears are able to bind Greenscale when he originally was cooped up the first time. "

I guess the force isn't all that mysterious, it's called rehashing due to budget limitations.

dude a story line has nothing to do with budget, its called lore...

Originally the Greenscale encounter, and Akylios as well (the two main bosses, alongside a host of lesser henchman bosses) were going to be similar to previous raid content... but then the devs went crazy. These are brand new fights, with a huge boost in terms of difficulty. Lots of new mechanics that players haven’t seen before are present, along with some throwbacks to the old fights. Greenscale is now an eight-phase encounter, the biggest and best bosses you’ll see in the game these days.

Oh, and these are not the last new raids coming to Rift, either. Rather, this is just the beginning of Tier 3.

Isnt this par for the course though?  WoW for example is far more about mechanics and player skill than gear.

Theyve struggled in the past with tuning and polish, but I would agree that in general they are good, second only to WoW for that style of raid.

Ugh, raids raids raids... Can't we think of something else that doesn't involve only the top few players who managed to sink months and months into their characters just for repeating the same content over and over?  There has to be a better way to create advanced PvE, aside from having people do raids.

the game became very grindy after F2P just getting gears u need for those raids take long time and you need good guild with hard core players as well and finding one is not as easy as it sounds with low population of rift and you need to spend something like 40 euro at least to lessen that grind.((patron..vials etc))

yes pretty difficult raids but as it is signature feature of rift it is also the weakness of rift.

because games like wow offer content for both hard core and casual meaning in wow you do not need to go through heroic difficulty, the normal also gives you good enough gear that make everyone happy.

in rift the game by default is very hard mode and that is what  scares off casuals.

i do not know how long this game survives like that with upcoming shinny mmos like wild star.

Come on Trion! I know that you are more creative than that. I mean, Rift is one the blandest, yet most creative MMOs out there. Why bland? General design is so vanilla + HORRIBLE story(it'd better if there was no story rather than if there was a horrible story). Yet there are a LOT of gems in the rough here(IAs, Rifts, Dungeons + raids, core design of classes, ...).

How can this game be so bipolar???
Yeah pretty much this, Daglar needs to step aside, since hes taken helm the game has stopped all innovation and quality. but to add about the rehashed raids and such, you get the same old T1 gear art with the new tier of gear, gotta love that minimal effort.           Edit, have no idea how I quoted myself either lol.

Although Greenscale was boring design-wise (and the fight itself wasn't anything grand, mind you), I must say in their defence that Akylios is just... bloody... awesome. And his fight too. I for one would very much like to see what sorts of new mechanics they come up for that one.

    But Greenscale... meh.

I'm OK with old bosses with new mechanics, per the article.

And for people whining about having to "grind" to get gear or are frustrated that endgame just keeps adding raids, I ask you: Why are you playing an MMO?  If you don't want to raid and fight big bosses with skilled mechanics, what kind of PVE experience are you looking for?
