Final Fantasy XIV on the PS4.

Hello folks,

Anyone here play XIV on the PS4? I'm curious and on the fence but I would like to know if fellow gamers have a positive (or negative) experience so far.

It's a good port, runs better than on the PS3 and the interface is well suited for a controller. You will need a usb keyboard however.

Runs great and looks amazing on my PS4, truly a fun MMO and combat feels great with a controller. The only issue is it is a pain to communicate with other players using the controller, but a bluetooth keyboard works quite well with the PS4.

I played in the beta, the ps4 version was legit. Controller takes some getting used to, but you can still use kb and mouse on the ps4 if you prefer. I didn't buy it because I won't pay for games anymore just to see them go f2p right after I buy them. Ffarr is testing the console waters now otherwise it would be f2p already. It sucks but this is how this f2p market has shaped my spending habits.

it won't be going F2P any time soon, and given how popular the games is, you'll be lucky if its even a consideration in 5 years time, the game is already doing very well just on PC and PS3, that you can now play it on PS4 also is a big thing, as it means that it is in all probability, the best MMO currently on console. As the game currently has 2 million active subscriptions, i don't think SE are going to be overly worried about the games future either

It doesn't have 2 million active subs.

 

You could be right, but given you need to have a sub to play the game, or at least be in the initial free 30 days after buying the game, then the figure can't be that far off

But you are correct. Unless SE actually says its 2m subbed players then its hard to say what the actual figure is.

It's not even close. The game has 2 million registered accounts, and with an attach rate of 40% (high end estimate, based on Yoshi-P's comment) that means ~800k subs. That is much more likely.

Either way it's more than SE's internal projections so I doubt they are worried about the game's future at the moment

Stop spreading misinformation. You do NOT need a sub. You are free to buy Game Time Cards, then apply their code to your account.
